JUEVES SANTO—29 DE MARZO Misa de La última Cena del Señor: el lavatorio de los pies comenzará a las 7:00 pm (Bilingüe). El SANTÍSIMO SACRAMENTO permanecerá ex-puesto para adoración en el Salón Parroquial hasta la media noche.

VIERNES DE DOLORES—30 DE MARZO: La Devoción del Santo Vía Crucis en el templo a las 3pm y a las 7pm iniciare-mos la Liturgia de la Pasión de nuestro Señor Jesucristo con la Sagrada Comunión y la veneración de la Santa Cruz (Bilingüe). Después de la liturgia iniciaremos la procesión del silencio por varias calles de la ciudad.

SABADO SANTO—31 DE MARZO: A las 8 de la noche iniciare-mos la SOLEMNE VIGILIA PASCUAL que durará toda la no-che. Tendremos la ceremonia de bendición del Fuego Nue-vo, la consagración del Agua Lustral, y la renovación de nuestro bautismo. Hoy pueden ya comprar sus cirios pas-cuales a la salida de misa para bendecirlos y encenderlos con la luz del fuego nuevo la noche de Pascua. Como en años pasados LA VIGILIA SERÁ TODA LA NOCHE: COMEN-ZAREMOS A LAS 8:00 PM y terminaremos a las 6:30 de la mañana del domingo.

DOMINGO DE PASCUA—1 DE ABRIL: Noten que el domingo de Pascua no habrá misa de 7 de la mañana. El horario del resto de las misas de domingo permanece igual: 8:30 am Inglés, y 10:30 am, 12:30 pm, 5:00 pm y 7:00 pm Español.

HOLY THURSDAY—MARCH 29: Mass of the Last Supper of Our Lord: the washing of the Feet will begin at 7:00 pm (Bilingual). THE BLESSED SACRAMENT will remain ex-posed for adoration in the Parish Hall until midnight.

GOOD FRIDAY—MARCH 30: The Stations of the Way of the Cross in English will be in Church at 12:00 noon and at 7pm we will have the Liturgy of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Holy Communion and the Veneration of the Cross (Bilingual). After the liturgy we will begin a proces-sion in silence through various streets in our city.

HOLY SATURDAY—MARCH 31: At 8pm we will begin the ALL NIGHT SOLEMN EASTER VIGIL beginning with the ceremony of the blessing of the New Fire followed by the consecration of the Baptismal Water and the renewal of our baptism. Today you may buy your Paschal Candles after the mass to be blessed at the vigil. You may also bring your own candles to receive the light of the New Fire. Like in previous years THE VIGIL WILL BE ALL NIGHT: WE WILL BEGIN AT 8:00 PM and end at 6:30 am on Sun-day.

EASTER SUNDAY—APRIL 1: There will be no 7am Spanish mass. The rest of the Sunday mass schedule remains the same: 8:30 am English, and 10:30 am, 12:30 pm, 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm Spanish.

La Anunciación de la

Encarnación de Dios

Estamos acostumbra-dos a ver imagines muy bellas de la Anunciación, pero en realidad el momento debió ser bastante difícil para María, una joven soltera viviendo en un ambiente de grandes presiones sociales. María tiene claro que la invitación de Dios no se puede negar ni rechazar. Con su si, abre la puerta a la presencia real y encarna-da de Dios en el mundo. Es nuestro modelo para abrir la puerta a Dios en nuestro mun-do: la escucha de la llamada de Dios y la respuesta positive incluso frente a situa-ciones que nos podrían parecer difíciles. “No temas: el Espíritu te cubrirá con su sombra”, se nos sigue diciendo.

Primera Lectura: Jeremías 31: 31-34

“Se acerca el tiempo, dice el Señor, en que haré con la

casa de Israel y la casa de Judá una alianza nueva. No será

como la alianza que hice con los padres de ustedes, cuan-

do los tomé de la mano para sacarlos de Egipto. Ellos rom-

pieron mi alianza y yo tuve que hacer un escarmiento con

ellos. Ésta será la alianza nueva que voy a hacer con la casa

de Israel: Voy a poner mi ley en lo más profundo de su

mente y voy a grabarla en sus corazones. Yo seré su Dios y

ellos serán mi pueblo. Ya nadie tendrá que instruir a su

prójimo ni a su hermano, diciéndole: ‘Conoce al Señor’,

porque todos me van a conocer, desde el más pequeño

hasta el mayor de todos, cuando yo les perdone sus culpas

y olvide para siempre sus pecados”.

Segunda Lectura: Hebreos 5: 7-9

Hermanos: Durante su vida mortal, Cristo ofreció oracio-

nes y súplicas, con fuertes voces y lágrimas, a aquel que

podía librarlo de la muerte, y fue escuchado por su piedad.

A pesar de que era el Hijo, aprendió a obedecer padecien-

do, y llegado a su perfección, se convirtió en la causa de la

salvación eterna para todos los que lo obedecen.

Evangelio: Juan 12: 20-33

Entre los que habían llegado a Jerusalén para adorar a

Dios en la fiesta de Pascua, había algunos griegos, los cua-

les se acercaron a Felipe, el de Betsaida de Galilea, y le

pidieron: “Señor, quisiéramos ver a Jesús”. Felipe fue a

decírselo a Andrés; Andrés y Felipe se lo dijeron a Jesús y

él les respondió: “Ha llegado la hora de que el Hijo del

hombre sea glorificado. Yo les aseguro que si el grano de

trigo, sembrado en la tierra, no muere, queda infecundo;

pero si muere, producirá mucho fruto. El que se ama a sí

mismo, se pierde; el que se aborrece a sí mismo en este

mundo, se asegura para la vida eterna. El que quiera servir-

me, que me siga, para que donde yo esté, también esté mi

servidor. El que me sirve será honrado por mi Padre. Aho-

ra que tengo miedo, ¿le voy a decir a mi Padre: ‘Padre,

líbrame de esta hora’? No, pues precisamente para esta

hora he venido. Padre, dale gloria a tu nombre”. Se oyó

entonces una voz que decía: “Lo he glorificado y volveré a

glorificarlo”. De entre los que estaban ahí presentes y oye-

ron aquella voz, unos decían que había sido un trueno;

otros, que le había hablado un ángel. Pero Jesús les dijo:

“Esa voz no ha venido por mí, sino por ustedes. Está lle-

gando el juicio de este mundo; ya va a ser arrojado el prín-

cipe de este mundo. Cuando yo sea levantado de la tierra,

atraeré a todos hacia mí”. Dijo esto, indicando de qué ma-

nera habría de morir.

The days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a

new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of

Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their

fathers the day I took them by the hand to lead them forth

from the land of Egypt; for they broke my covenant, and I

had to show myself their master, says the Lord. But this is

the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after

those days, says the Lord. I will place my law within them

and write it upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they

shall be my people. No longer will they have need to teach

their friends and relatives how to know the Lord. All, from

least to greatest, shall know me, says the Lord, for I will

forgive their evildoing and remember their sin no more.

Second Reading: Hebreos 5: 7-9

In the days when Christ Jesus was in the flesh, he offered

prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to the

one who was able to save him from death, and he was

heard because of his reverence. Son though he was, he

learned obedience from what he suffered; and when he

was made perfect, he became the source of eternal salva-

tion for all who obey him.

Some Greeks who had come to worship at the Passover

Feast came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee,

and asked him, “Sir, we would like to see Jesus.” Philip

went and told Andrew; then Andrew and Philip went and

told Jesus. Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for

the Son of Man to be glorified. Amen, amen, I say to you,

unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it re-

mains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much

fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his

life in this world will preserve it for eternal life. Whoever

serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will

my servant be. The Father will honor whoever serves me.

“I am troubled now. Yet what should I say? ‘Father, save

me from this hour’? But it was for this purpose that I came

to this hour. Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice

came from heaven, “I have glorified it and will glorify it

again.” The crowd there heard it and said it was thunder;

but others said, “An angel has spoken to him.” Jesus an-

swered and said, “This voice did not come for my sake but

for yours. Now is the time of judgment on this world; now

the ruler of this world will be driven out. And when I am

lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself.”

He said this indicating the kind of death he would die.

Reflexiones para la homilía “Para servirle a usted” y “A sus o rdenes” son expresiones que usamos en la vida diaria casi automa ticamente; respon-den a una educacio n que se nos ha impartido junto con grandes valores de servicio y entrega a los dema s. A veces nos salen automa ticamente; pero, si reflexiona ramos, nos darí amos cuenta del profundo sentido que tienen. En el Bautismo, se nos confirio la naturaleza de hijos de Dios: re-yes, sacerdotes y profetas. Como reyes, se supondrí a que nos tienen que servir; pero no se trata de eso, ya que el Reino de Cristo es un reino de servicio. Cristo vino al mundo a servir, no a ser servido; vino a ser un puente entre Dios y la humanidad. Un puente es para que las personas pasen, para ser, de alguna manera simbo lica, pisado; y, en este ca-so, rinda el servicio de permitir el acceso a Dios. Es una ta-rea difí cil, que requiere olvidarse de uno mismo para hacer el acceso ma s fa cil. Si uno estuviera en medio y no se hiciera a un lado, podrí a ser que la gente no llegara a Dios. La im-portancia del puente es su funcio n y utilidad: servir a la gen-te a llegar al otro lado. El sacerdote sirve de puente hacien-do una ofrenda a Dios. En Cristo, la ofrenda es E l mismo, su misma persona. Los que seguimos a Cristo, tambie n hace-mos ofrenda de nosotros mismos; y al hacerlo, nos compro-metemos a una vida de servicio, no por ser serviles o sumi-sos a las imposiciones de otros, sino buscando el bien de todos y el que todos puedan acceder a la vida de Dios. Así , seremos puentes en nuestras familias y comunidades, y en-tre culturas y convicciones. Finalmente, hoy se nos pide vi-vir en la hora de Cristo, que ya ha llegado. En ese tiempo, el grano de trigo, es decir nosotros, cae en tierra y muere para que haya mucho fruto. En las pequen as muertes de cada dí a por el bien de otros, nos unimos a la opcio n de Cristo y da-mos frutos de vida. Puede que nos sea difí cil verlo. Puede que en nuestra vida no tengamos la satisfaccio n de verlo. Puede ser incluso que nos sintamos frustrados por la falta de gratitud y reciprocidad del sacrificio, y por la poca res-puesta que encontramos en los dema s; sin embargo, sabe-mos por nuestra propia experiencia de ser hijos amados de Dios, que la misericordia es ma s poderosa que el resenti-miento. Dios ama sin condiciones. Lo que hemos recibido gratis, por lo tanto, gratis lo debemos dar. Jesu s acepta la muerte sin contar el precio personal que va a pagar; y, con su muerte, da verdadera vida a la humanidad.

Para la reflexión ¿Qué oportunidades de servicio se me ofrecen cada día? ¿Las vivo como imposiciones o como ocasiones de ejercer mi ministerio con Cristo? ¿Resiento el tener que hacer cosas por los demás o lo vivo con alegría y generosidad?

Our Culture Many of us have jobs in service and these are not seen as having great prestige, fame, or power nowadays; but, it is a way of life that has enormous dignity. As Christians, we know that all the service and even sacrifice we make for the wellbeing of the others has an incalculable value.

Homily Reflection “I am here to serve you” or “at your service” are expressions we use in our daily life almost automatically; they respond to an education that we have acquired together with great values for service and dedication to others. Sometimes they come out automatically; but, if we reflect on it, we will no-tice the deep meaning they have. In Baptism, we were con-ferred the nature of being God’s children: kings, priests, and prophets. As kings, it would seem that we would be served; but this isn’t about that, since the Kingdom of Christ is a kingdom of service. Christ came to the world to serve, not to be served; he came to be a bridge between God and humani-ty. A bridge is to be walked on by the people, to be, in some symbolic way, trodden; and in this case, it does the service of allowing access to God. It is a difficult task, requiring that we forget ourselves to make the access easier. If you were in the way and fail to step aside, it could be that people would not reach God. The importance of the bridge is its function and utility: serving people to reach the other side. The priest becomes a bridge by making an offering to God. In Christ, the offering is Him, his very person. Those of us who follow Christ, also make an offering of ourselves; and in do-ing so, we commit ourselves to a life of service, not because we are servile or submissive to others, but to seek the good of all and so that everyone may have access to the life of God. As such, we will be bridges in our families and commu-nities, and between cultures and convictions. Lastly, today we are asked to live in the hour of Christ, which has ar-rived. At this time, the grain of wheat, which is us, falls on the soil and dies so that there is plenty of fruit. That is, in the small deaths we suffer each say for the benefit of oth-ers, we join the option of Christ and give the fruit of life. Perhaps it is difficult for us to see it. Maybe in this lifetime we will not have the satisfaction of seeing it. It may even be that we feel frustrated by the lack of appreciation and reciprocity for our sacrifice, and by the lack of response we get from others; and yet, we know by our own experience being the beloved children of God, that mercy is stronger than resentment. God loves without any conditions. What we receive for free, we must therefore give for free. Jesus accepts death without calculating the personal price to be paid; and, through his death, he gives true life to humani-ty.

For Reflection What opportunities of service am I offered each day? Do I live them as impositions or as occasions to exercise my ministry with Christ? Do I resent having to do things for others or do I live it with joy and generosity?

STEPS TO A GOOD CONFESSION PREPARATION: Before going to confession, take some time to prepare. Begin with prayer, and reflect on your life since your last confession. How have you—in your thoughts, words, and actions— neglected to live Christ’s commands to “love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind,” and to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Mt 22:37, 39)? As a help with this “examination of conscience,” you might review the Ten Commandments or the Beatitudes. The church proposes 5 steps to follow to make a good confession and obtain the graces this sacrament offers. These steps are a simple expres-sion of our path towards conversion: from an analysis of our actions to those actions which demonstrate a change has been made.

Steps to a Good Confession 1. Examine your conscience. 2. Be repentant of your sins. 3. Confess your sins to the priest in number and kind, being sure to confess all mortal sins. 4. Make an act of contrition, receive absolution from the priest, and resolve to sin no more. 5. Do the penance the priest gives you.

How to make a good Examination of Conscience

• Find a quiet place to pray and think.

• Ask the Holy Spirit in prayer to help you remember your sins.

• Use the questions below as a guide.

• Remember to include sins of omission—that is, things you should have done but did not.

Examination of Conscience First, consider how well you have kept the Ten Commandments. 1. You shall love the Lord your God above all things

• Do I put other things, activities, or people before God?

• Have I spent time with God each day in prayer?

• Do I accept all of God’s teaching or just the parts I find convenient? 2. You shall not take the name of the lord your God in vain.

• Do I always show respect and reverence for God’s name?

• Have I used God’s name as a curse, out of anger, or in a careless way?

• Have I irreverently spoken about God or about any sacred person, place, or thing?

3. Keep the Sabbath Day Holy

• Have I deliberately missed Mass on a Sunday or holy day of obligation with-out just cause (for example, a serious illness)?

• Do I actively and fully participate at Mass?

• Have I carelessly arrived late or left early from Mass without a serious rea-son?

4. Honor your father and your mother.

• Have I obeyed all that my parents reasonably asked of me?

• Have I neglected the needs of my parents in their old age or in their time of need?

5. You shall not kill.

• Have I unjustly and intentionally killed a human being?

• Have I been involved in an abortion, directly or indirectly (through advice, etc.)?

• Have I seriously considered or attempted suicide? 6. You shall not commit adultery.

• Have I practiced the virtue of chastity?

• Have I given in to lust? (The desire for sexual pleasure unrelated to spousal love in marriage.)

• Do I or have I used an artificial means of birth control? 7. You shall not steal.

• Have I stolen? (Take something that doesn’t belong to me against the rea-sonable will of the owner.)

• Have I envied others on account of their possessions? 8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

• Have I lied?

• Have I knowingly and willfully deceived another?

• Have I perjured myself under oath?

• Have I gossiped? 9. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife.

• Have I committed impure acts with another - fornication (premarital sex),

adultery (sex with a married person)?

• Have I respected all members of the opposite sex, or thought of other peo-ple as objects?

• Have I tried to control my thoughts? 10. You shall not covet your neighbor's goods

• Have I envied other people's families or possessions?

• Have I made material possessions the purpose of my life?

The Precepts of the Church 1. You shall attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation. 2. You shall confess your sins at least once a year. 3. You shall humbly receive your Creator in Holy Communion at least during the

Easter season. 4. You shall keep holy the Holy days of Obligation. 5. You shall observe the prescribed days of fasting and abstinence. 6. You shall contribute to the support of the Church. 7. You shall observe the laws of the Church concerning marriage.

The Seven Deadly/Capital Sins The seven deadly sins, more properly called the seven capital sins, are the sins to which we are most susceptible because of our fallen human nature. They are the tendencies that cause us to commit all other sins. They are called "deadly" because, if we engage in them willingly, they deprive us of sanctifying grace, the life of God in our souls. 1. Pride: a sense of one's self-worth that is out of proportion to reality. 2. Covetousness (also known as avarice or greed): he strong desire for posses-

sions, especially for possessions that belong to another, as in the 9th and 10th Commandments.

3. Lust: a desire for sexual pleasure that is out of proportion to the good of sexu-al union or is directed at someone with whom one has no right to sexual un-ion—that is, someone other than one's spouse.

4. Anger: the excessive desire to take revenge. 5. Gluttony: excessive desire, not for food and drink, but for the pleasure ob-

tained by eating and drinking. 6. Envy: sadness at the good fortune of another, whether in possessions, suc-

cess, virtues, or talents. 7. Sloth: laziness or sluggishness when facing the effort necessary to perform a

task.

By considering the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy we can remember times we may have committed sins of omission. We can also be reminded of ways in which we can grow in holiness. The Spiritual Works of Mercy Have I neglected to do the following when circumstances obliged me:

1. Counsel the doubtful. 5. Bear wrongs patiently. 2. Instruct the ignorant. 6. Forgive all injuries. 3. Admonish sinners. 7. Pray for the living and the dead. 4. Comfort the sorrowful.

The Corporal Works of Mercy Have I neglected to do the following when circumstances obliged me?

1. Feed the hungry. 5. Visit the sick. 2. Give drink to the thirsty. 6. Visit the imprisoned. 3. Clothe the naked. 7. Bury the dead. 4. Shelter the homeless.

How to Go to Confession

• Begin with the Sign of the Cross.

• Then say, “Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned. It has been ______ days/weeks/ months/years since my last confession.”

• Tell the priest your sins and how many times you committed each (to the best of your memory), beginning with any mortal sins and any sins your are partic-ularly struggling with.

• The priest will give you some advice and assign you a penance.

• You then make the Act of Contrition.

• The priest will give you absolution and then dismiss you.

Act of Contrition O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you, and I detest all of my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because they have offended you, my God, who are all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve with the help of your grace, to sin no more, to do pen-ance, and to avoid the near occasions of sin. Amen.
