10
OBJECTIVE OF THE PRESENTATION
TO SELL TO MOTIVATE
TO PERSUADE TO INFORM
TO TRAIN
TO ENTERTAIN
11
Objective of the Presentation
The presentation should always revolve around the objective that has been set, and not distract from the main agenda.
The focus, during the entire presentation, needs to be on the agenda which has been set earlier.
12
Structuring the Presentation
13
IN / OUT BOX
NOT NECESSARY TO KNOW
NICE TO KNOW
MUST KNOW
14
Structuring the Beginning
Tell them :
What the presentation is about
About your objectives
About yourself
Why you are giving this presentation (gives you some credibility)
15
Structuring the Beginning
Tell them what's in it for them (benefits)
Grab their attention
Set their expectations (when you'll finish, whether there will be time for questions afterwards, whether there will be handouts, coffee etc.)
16
Structuring the Middle
Talk about your subject in detail
Tell them logically
Talk to them in an easy-to-understand language
Use anecdotes and real examples to highlight your points
Tell them how this information applies to them
Link everything you say to reality
17
Structuring the End
Summarize - Briefly tell them what the most important points of your presentation were
Tell them the benefits that your solution, options, conclusions etc. will bring to them
Answer questions where appropriate
Tell them how to get in touch with you if they need to
End with a bang

Time Allocation
"No one ever complains about a speech being too short!" -- Ira Hayes
Always plan your presentation based on the time that you have on hand. Your presentation should not exceed the time-limit.
21
PREPARE
22
Preparation
"To fail to prepare is to prepare to fail.“
"It takes one hour of preparation for each minute of presentation time." ~ Wayne Burgraff
“The best preparation for tomorrow is to do today's work superbly well.”
~ Sir William Osler
23
Preparing for the Presentation
Write out your main argument –
Brain-storm on the topic and do a lot of research to prepare yourself thoroughly on the topic
Organize your material well
Write out the main points as headings
Refer to them from time-to-time so that you don’t get lost in between. Always number your index cards
Visit the room and try out the technology.
This will increase your confidence on the day and also make you comfortable with technical equipment.
24
Preparing for the Presentation
Time yourself making the presentation.
Cut it back if it is too long.
Have a clear opening and closing line that refers directly to the main issue.
25
PRACTICE
26
Practice
Practice makes perfect (at least better). Practice where you want to pause for better effects, what words do you want to use, and what examples do you want to state.
Practicing before presenting is important for two reasons:
Firstly, it helps to reduce anxiety and boost confidence
Secondly, until you have actually said the words that so far have only existed in your head, you cannot be absolutely sure what will come out when you start to speak
