El documento “Centroamérica en Cifras” reune un conjunto de estadísticas macroeconómicas, demográficas y sociales con el fin de presentar el desempeño de la región en el pasado reciente. La información proviene, en la mayoría de los casos, de publicaciones de las estadísticas oficiales de cada país y organismos pertenecientes al Sistema de Integración Centroamericano. La elaboración de la presente edición fue coordinada por la Oficina del Economista Jefe del Banco Centroamericano de Integración Económica, bajo el liderazgo de la Dra. Florencia Castro-Leal, Economista en Jefe y su compilación estuvo a cargo de Carmen Elisa Méndez, Economista Junior y Miguel Ángel Medina Fonseca, Economista.

The document “Central America in Figures” collects a set of macroeconomic, demographic and social statistics in order to present the region’s performance in the recent past. The information presented comes, in most cases, from publications of the official statistics of each country and organizations belonging to the Central American Integration System. The preparation of this edition was coordinated by the Office of the Chief Economist of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration, under the leadership of Dr. Florencia Castro-Leal, Chief Economist, and its compilation was in charge of Carmen Elisa Méndez, Junior Economist and Miguel Ángel Medina Fonseca, Economist.

Abastecimiento de agua potable: Población que utiliza alguna de las siguientes fuentes de agua para beber: servicios de agua por tubería en la vivienda, la parcela o el patio, grifos o fuentes públicas, pozo entubado/perforado, pozo excavado cubierto, manantial protegido, recolección de aguas lluvia. El agua embotellada solo se considera potable si en el hogar existe otra fuente mejorada para cocinar y para la higiene personal. Drinking water supply: Population that uses any of the following sources of drinking water: piped water services in the house, the plot or the patio, taps or public sources, cased/drilled well, covered excavated well, protected spring, rainwater harvesting. Bottled water is only considered drinkable if there is another improved source for cooking and personal hygiene in the home.
