Allí recibió influencias tan funda-mentales como la del padre Báñez, su director es-piritual, y la de fray García de Toledo, ambosdominicos. La inspiración que recibió allí dejaríadespués su huella en Pastrana -Guadalajara-, Ma-lagón -Ciudad Real-, Villanueva de la Jara -Cuenca- y en los lugares por los que pasó caminode sus fundaciones y visitas, como la Torre deJuan Abad -Ciudad Real-.

Las rutas turística y de peregrinaciónpretenden que el turista o peregrinorecorra el mayor número de ciuda-des teresianas posibles para cono-cer las Huellas de Teresa porEspaña.Existen tantas rutas como personasquieran conocer las Huelas de Te-resa por España, solo debes visitarun mínimo de 4 ciudades de almenos 2 comunidades autónomas yfinalizar en la ciudad de Ávila, ciudadnatal de Teresa.Para incentivar estas Rutas se pre-tende reconocer y premiar al turista yperegrino con una distinción general.

The tourist and pilgrimage routes aim toallow the tourist or pilgrim to visit the lar-gest number of cities of Teresa de Álivapossible, to discover the Trail of Teresa deÁliva around Spain.

There are as many routes as people whowant to discover the Trail of Teresa deÁliva around Spain, you only need to visita minimum of 4 cities in at least 2 autono-mous regions and end your trip in the cityof Ávila, Teresa's birthplace.

To promote these Routes the aim is toacknowledge and reward the tourist andpilgrim with a general distinction.

Toledo La primera vez que llega santa Teresa a Toledo es el 4 deenero de 1562, con 46 años, para visitar a Luisa de laCerda, alojándose en su casa, que es el actual Casa deMesa. Las carmelitas tuvieron un primer convento en lazona en la que se ensancha la calle san Juan de Dios,después estuvieron en unas casas de la calle del Torno delas Carretas (la actual Núñez de Arce, donde llegó frayJuan de la Cruz al escaparse de su presidio en el con-vento del Carmen). Esta era su quinta fundación. Aquí es-tuvo la santa desde el 23 de junio de 1576 hasta julio de1577 y desplegó una intensa actividad como escritora.Después, las carmelitas descalzas se marcharon a la casade Alonso Franco, ubicada en las Tendillas, donde viviránveinticuatro años. Finalmente, el 28 de mayo de 1608 setrasladaron muy cerca de la puerta del Cambrón, al pala-cio que fue construido por Fernando de la Cerda y Ana deLatiloye, donde están ahora. Allí se encuentra, por cierto,el cuerpo incorrupto de la Beata María de Jesús, llamadaMaría López Rivas, conocida entre los toledanos como laSantita.Hoy puede visitarse este palacio en Toledo, y es conocidocomo Casa de Mesa, es obra gótico-mudéjar del siglo XV,y en él se conserva un admirable salón mudéjar.

The first time that Teresa of Ávila arrived in Toledo was on 4th Ja-nuary, 1562, when she was 46, to visit Luisa de la Cerda, stayingat her house, which is the current Casa de Mesa. The Carmeliteshad a first convent in the area in which San Juan de Dios Streetbecomes wider, later they were in houses on Torno de las CarretasStreet (currently Núñez de Arce Street, where Fray Juan de la Cruzarrived on escaping from his prison in the convent of El Carmen).This was her fifth foundation. The saint was here from 23rd June1576 to July 1577 and she developed an intense activity as a wri-ter. Later, the Discalced Carmelites went to the house of AlonsoFranco, located in Las Tendillas, where they would live for twenty-four years. Finally, on 28th May 1608 they moved very close to thedoor of Cambrón, to the palace that was built by Fernando de laCerda and Ana de Latiloye, where they are now. There, you willfind the incorrupt body of the Blessed Mary of Jesus, call MaríaLópez Rivas, known among the people of Toledo as the Santita.

Today this palace can be visited in Toledo, and it is known as Casade Mesa, it is a Gothic-Mudejar work of the fifteenth century, and itconserves an admirable Mudejar room.

Teresa de Jesús, dejó en Pastrana una honda y extraordinariamemoria fundacional. En el verano de 1569, atendiendo a la invi-tación de la princesa de Éboli, Teresa llega a Pastrana dondefunda a un tiempo dos conventos carmelitas descalzos, uno paramujeres, el de San José, y otro para hombres, el de San Pedro(hoy del Carmen). ‘La Mirada de Teresa de Jesús’ es la ruta quecamina sobre sus pasos, sobre las huellas que Teresa grabó enPastrana. Comienza en el Palacio Ducal, donde la Santa conviviócon la princesa de Éboli, transita por la Colegiata donde se ve-nera su reliquia y donde se guardan valiosos recuerdos persona-les y peregrina y se detiene en los conventos fundados por ella.Pastrana, de forma original, es el único lugar donde la Santafunda al mismo tiempo dos conventos.

"Hoy podemos encontrar visitas guíadas al Palacio Ducal y a laIglesia-Colegiata, donde se encuentra el Museo de Tapices quealberga una de las mejores colecciones de tapices góticos fla-mencos del mundo,ademas de recorrer uno de los relevantesconjuntos históricos-artísticos de Castilla-La Mancha."

Teresa de Jesús left a profound and extraordinary founding legacy in Pas-trana. In the summer of 1569, having received an invitation from the Prin-cess of Eboli, Teresa came to Pastrana where she founded two DiscalcedCarmelite convents at the same time, one for women, that of San José,and another for men, that of San Pedro (nowadays the Convento del Car-men). “La Mirada de Teresa de Jesús” is the route that follows in her foots-teps, visiting the traces that Teresa left in Pastrana. It begins at the DucalPalace, where the Saint lived with the Princess of Eboli, before moving onto the Collegiate Church where her relics are revered and where some va-luable personal effects are preserved, and it then makes a pilgrimage toand ends at the convents that she established. Pastrana, in an originaltwist, is the only place where Saint Teresa founded two convents simulta-neously.

"Nowadays we can do guided tours to the Palacio Ducal (Ducal Palace)and the Iglesia-Colegiata (Collegiate Church), where the Museo de Tapices(Tapestry Museum) can be found which houses one of the best collectionsof flamenco gothic tapestries in the world, as well as visiting one of the im-portant groupings of historic and artistic buildings in Castile-La Mancha."

La Judería de ToledoLa tradición sefardí ha querido que To-ledo sea la cuna del judaísmo ibérico, deacuerdo con esta teoría, la España judíahabría nacido en esta ciudad seis siglosantes de Cristo.

La Judería de Toledo era conocida amediados del XIII por tres cosas: la sun-tuosidad y belleza de sus edificios públi-cos, la calidad intelectual de sus rabinosy su gran extensión. La documentaciónparece mostrar que ya en el siglo XIIocupaba un espacio comprendido entreel Tajo, el puente de San Martín quehubo cerca del Baño de la Cava, sanJuan de los Reyes y la Puerta del Cam-brón, puerta de acceso a los cuartelesjudíos.

Sephardic tradition has made Toledo the birth-place of Iberian Judaism, and according tothis theory, Jewish Spain would have beenborn in this city six centuries before Christ.

The Jewish Quarter of Toledo was known inthe mid thirteenth century for three things: themagnificence and beauty of its public buil-dings, the intellectual quality of its rabbis andits large extension. Documentation appears toshow that as early as the twelfth century it co-vered an area made up of the Tagus, the SanMartín bridge that was near the Baño de laCava, San Juan de los Reyes and Puerta delCambron, gateway to the Jewish barracks.

La Sinagoga del Tránsito fue construidaa mediados del siglo XIV por SamuelHa-Leví, tesorero de Pedro I el Cruel elJusticiero.

El Tránsito Synagogue was built in the mid-fourteenth century by Samuel Ha-Levi, treasu-rer of Peter of Castile, the Cruel, the Just.

En el interior refleja el lujo y esplendorde la arquitectura toledana de la época,influenciada por soluciones constructi-vas almohades y góticas. Hoy conver-tido en Museo Sefardí.

The interior reflects the luxury and splendourof the architecture of Toledo of that time, in-fluenced by Almohad and Gothic constructivesolutions. It is now a Sephardic Museum.

Sinagoga de Santa María la BlancaLa construcción en el siglo XII de esta sinagoga se le atri-buye a Joseph ibn Salomón, nasí o príncipe de los judíos deCastilla. Era la más grande que existía en Toledo de lasdoce que existierón, transformada en el inicio del siglo XVen iglesia de la Orden de Calatrava.

The construction of this synagogue in the twelfth century is attribu-ted to Joseph ibn Solomon, nasi or prince of the Jews of Castile. Itwas the largest of the twelve that were present in Toledo, transfor-med at the beginning of the fifteenth century into a church of theOrder of Calatrava.

El Monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes es la tercera gran edifica-ción toledana, junto a la Catedral y El Alcázar. Fue construido paraconmemorar la victoria de los Reyes Católicos en la batalla deToro, que confirmó a Isabel como reina, con el propósito luegodesechado de que fuera su sepultura. Es de estilo isabelino que esuna combinación entre el gótico florido y el mudéjar.

Monasterio de San Juan de los ReyesThe Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes is the third lar-gest building in Toledo, next to the Cathedral and the Alca-zar. It was built to commemorate the victory of theCatholic Monarchs in the battle of Toro, which confirmedElizabeth as queen, with the initial aim of it being her tomb,but that was later discarded. It is Elizabethan style, whichis a combination of flamboyant Gothic and Moorish styles.

Voix Vives 2015 celebrará más de 60 recitales en tres días enmás de 20 espacios cotidianos y al aire libre de la ciudad, com-binando plazas, jardines y callejones con contenedores cultu-rales tradicionales como museos o monumentos en losparticiparán medio centenar de poetas procedentes de 20 pa-íses y en los que se hablará en 9 lenguas distintas del Medite-rráneo. Como los dos años anteriores disfrutaremos de otrasmanifestaciones artísticas como la música, los cuentacuentoso el teatro de calle e históricas como las rutas, conferencias ycharlas.

Voix Vives 2015 will hold over 60 recitals in three days in morethan 20 everyday spaces and outdoor venues across the city,combining squares, gardens and streets with traditional culturalvenues like museums or monuments in which fifty poets from20 countries will participate, speaking in 9 different Mediterra-nean languages. este grandioso monumento, quizá el edificio más representativo dela ciudad, fue construido entre 1226 y 1492.aunque la parte fundamental de la catedral es de estilo gótico, sin em-bargo diversos estilos de arte están representados en su decoración,participando de formas tan diversas como el renacentista del coro.la sacristía constituye un auténtico museo en sí misma, albergando obrasde tan célebres artistas como el greco, rubens, zurbarán, lucas Jordán,Vand dick, tristán, goya… aunque bien podría decirse que toda la catedrales un verdadero museo digno de admiración. también se puede visitar lasala capitular y el tesoro.

este Hospital, de estilo plateresco, fue mandado cons-truir a principios del siglo xVi por el cardenal pedrogonzález de mendoza para reunir todos los hospitalesde toledo en un mismo emplazamiento.

Hoy en día alberga el museo del mismo nombre,donde se pueden apreciar diversos lienzos de elgreco, entre los cuales cabe resaltar “la asunción dela Virgen”, “inmaculada concepción”, “la Veronica”,así como obras de otros autores e interesantes objetosde arte y arqueológicos.

Quizá lo que le ha otorgado a esta iglesia una fama mundialbien merecida es que en su interior se encuentra el lienzo de“El Entierro del Señor de Orgaz”, de El Greco. este cuadrorepresenta a san esteban y san agustín apareciéndose trasla muerte de don gonzalo ruiz de toledo, señor de orgaz,para proceder a su enterramiento; la composición de esta obraestá dividida en dos partes, en sus pinceladas inferioresvemos representado lo terrenal mientras que la parte superiorrefleja lo celestial.

el museo alberga la historia judía de españa y objetosde culto y tradición sefardita.

the synagogue el tránsito was built in 1355-57 by sa-muel leví, and it belonged to the hebrews until they wereexpelled by the catholic Monarchs. it eventually becamea christian temple. its walls are decorated with beautifulfriezes and hebrew inscriptions, as well as different de-corative plant and Mozarab motifs.

the museum exhibits the history of the Jews in spain witha collection of liturgical and traditional sephardic objects.

santa maría la Blanca, construida en el siglo xiii, per-teneció a los judíos hasta mitad del siglo xV, que pasóa ser consagrada como iglesia cristiana y utilizada poréstos como refugio de penitencia para mujeres arrepen-tidas.

su bella construcción refleja toda su rica historia; el in-terior, cinco naves separadas por 28 arcos de herradurasobre pilares de ladrillo pintados con cal, descubre an-tojadizos adornos, artesonado de alerce o altares pla-terescos.

santa María la blanca was built in the 13th century andbelonged to the Jews until half of the century xv, whenit was consecrated as a christian church and used as arefuge for the penitence of women who repented of theirsins.

the beautiful construction reflects its rich heritage. itsinterior boasts five naves which are separated by 29horseshoe arches over lime-painted brick pillars, withfancy decorations, larch coffered ceilings and plateres-que altars.

san Juan de los reyes is conside-red to be the most beautiful churchin toledo, and was built by the fa-mous architect Juan guas after thecatholic Monarchs appointed him tofulfill this great task and perpetuatethe memory of the victory in the bat-tle of toro. the single and magnifi-cent nave has a latin cross planand an interior star-shaped dome.the main chapel hosts the five greatcoats of arms of the catholic Mo-narchs, finished with the utmostcare and held by huge eagles. este monumento, también llamadoHospital de afuera, fue mandadoconstruir por el cardenal tavera en1541. atravesando su fachada rena-centista, encontramos en su interiordos anchos patios perfectamente si-métricos, con columnas dóricas yarcos jónicos. en el interior de suiglesia se encuentra el sepulcro delpropio fundador. en el museo sepueden admirar obras de artistascomo el greco, ribera, zurbarán,sánchez coello, tiziano o tintoretto.aloja en sus dependencias el archivode la nobleza.

this monument is also called the“hospital de afuera”, which was builtby cardinal tavera in 1541. its façadedepicts a renaissance style and in-side we can see two perfectlysymmetrical patios with dorian co-lumns and ionian arches. the foun-der is buried inside the church.Many different works from famouspainters are exhibited in the mu-seum, such as el greco, ribera, Zur-barán, sánchez coello, tiziano ortintoretto. the archives of la no-bleza are currently kept in the premi-ses of the building.

este convento construido en el sigloxi y reformado en el xVi, es uno delos más antiguos de la ciudad y elmagnífico retablo que exhibe esobra de el greco. su iglesia, deplanta de cruz latina, consta de unasola nave y alberga una gran colec-ción de retablos y pinturas de esteartista; en su coro se pueden apre-ciar numerosas obras de arte.

esta puerta renacentista de origenárabe es conocida también comopuerta de los Judíos ya que daba ac-ceso al barrio de la judería toledana.reformada en el siglo xVi se le aña-den a los dos torreones primitivosotros dos, resultando así una nuevaestructura de planta cuadrada y mo-delándose un pequeño patio en suinterior. alrededor de la puerta cre-cían unas zarzas llamadas cambro-neras, de ahí el nombre de“cambrón”.

this renaissance door with an araborigin is also known as the puerta delos Judíos (Jews’ gate), since it wasused to get to the Jewish neighbor-hood of the city. it was built again inthe sixteenth century and two primi-tive towers were added to the exis-ting towers, creating a new squarestructure with a patio in the inside. itsoriginal name comes from the bus-hes that grew around the gate, called“cambroneras” (buckthorns), andthat is why the peculiar name “cam-brón” was used.

El Patronato Municipal de Turismo de Toledo, como ente gestor del Sistema de calidad Turística enDestino (SICTED), está involucrado en este proyecto desde el año 2011, contando con el apoyo ycolaboración del Ayuntamiento de Toledo, el Instituto de Turismo de España (TURESPAÑA), laFederación Española de Municipios y Provincias (FEMP) y el Comité Interdestinos.

Como Destino de Calidad, Toledo ha alcanzado unos niveles excelentes y homogéneos de calidaden los establecimientos y servicios distinguidos en el “Compromiso de Calidad Turística”. El SIC-TED se basa en la conciencia integral de destino y en la identificación de objetivos comunes de losagentes implicados, otorgando el distintivo de Calidad Turística como soporte que acredita el cum-plimiento de los requisitos establecidos en la metodología.

Reconoce así, el esfuerzo y el compromiso con la calidad y la mejora continua, a la vez que distin-gue a la empresa frente a la competencia. Presenta una actitud de recuperación y puesta en valorde los recursos y del espacio que el destino ofrece y tiene como objetivo último mejorar la expe-riencia y satisfacción del turista y de los habitantes del destino.

The Toledo Municipal Tourist Board, as the managing body of the Destination Tourist Quality System(SICTED), has been involved in this project since 2011, with the support and collaboration of ToledoCity Council, the Tourism Institute of Spain (TURESPAÑA), the Spanish Federation of Municipalitiesand Provinces (FEMP) and the Interdestinations Committee.

As a Quality Destination, Toledo has achieved excellent and consistent levels of quality in establis-hments and services awarded the "Tourist Quality Commitment". SICTED is based on the compre-hensive awareness of the destination and identifying common objectives of all those involved, awar-ding the Tourist Quality hallmark to certify compliance with the requirements of the methodology.

And it recognises the effort and commitment to quality and continuous improvement, while settingthe company apart from the competition. It has an attitude of recovery and enhancement of resour-ces and spaces that the destination offers and has the ultimate objective of improving the experien-ce and satisfaction of tourists and inhabitants of the destination.
