The study time allowed while you are a full-time missionary of the Savior is anunparalleled opportunity to become a gospel scholar and effective instrument in the hands of the Lordas you preach His gospel in Spain. Imagine1 full hour of personal and 1 full hour of companion studywhich is protected, scheduled and expected. One full hour in each category to immerse yourselves inthe scriptures and truly feast upon the words of Christ, not just snack on them or nibble on them. Neveragain in your life will you have that kind of time at your disposal for study. The grand secret is tounderstand the power of that time, use it effectively and wisely, and be disciplined enough to get intoa routine from which you do not deviate. In D&C 11:21, the Lord is giving counsel to the newmissionaries of the new Church which has just been established and it is relevant even today, "Seek notto declare my word, but first seek to obtain my word, and then shall your tongue be loosed; then, if yedesire, you shall have my Spirit and my word, yea, the power of God unto the convincing of men."According to Preach My Gospel, "To teach effectively, you need to obtain spiritual knowledge... Thestudy habits you develop as a missionary will bless you personally and help those you teach grow intheir faith of the Savior.

I believe there are some principles that we should all follow as we strive to significantlymprove our personal study:

    1. Study in the same place at the same time each day. Find a place which is comfortable, has goodight, and is away from distractions.

    2. Know in advance what you are going to study and be disciplined in following that plan.

    3. Every study period should begin with a kneeling prayer, asking fervently for the Spirit of the Lord to bewith you and guide you in your studies. Preach My Gospel teaches us that, "Your gospel study is most

effective when you are taught by the Holy Ghost. Always begin your gospel study by praying for theHoly Ghost to help you learn."

    4. Focus first on the most important sources at our disposal as a missionary--The Book of Mormon andPreach My Gospel. We should plan to read in both sources every single day. In addition, as a mission,we are reading the New Testament. These ought to be our primary focus as missionaries. A certain percent of every study period should include reading from those sources. Then, it is wise to spend sometime focusing on a specific topic--perhaps related to a question that our investigators had. Anyremaining time can be spent in the Missionary Library.

    5. Make sure that you have a way of marking, underlining, or scoring your scriptures or iPad so that you

can refer easily to them in lessons. Having a small notebook to list the significant scriptures found in agiven chapter is also helpful. Time spent memorizing the location of commonly used scriptures is timewell spent. Create a list of the 2-3 most common scriptures associated with a gospel concept andhave them readily at your disposal.

    6. Learning the gospel is a revelatory experience so we need to pay attention to thoughts, impression, reflections, ideas that come into our minds regarding our investigators as we read, ponder, reflect andstudy. We then need to act on those impressions!

    7. Avoid the temptation to drowse, nap, let your mind wander, start late or in any other way waste thisprecious time given to you.

    8. Use the scriptures and the passages you have studied regularly so that they become part of yourmemory bank and can be referred to with ease.

It is my hope and prayer that through thorough gospel study, we will truly become gospel scholars andthus teach the message of the Restoration clearly and simply. Regular, disciplined and inspired

personal study will prepare us to do so. I love reading the scriptures and understanding the doctrines ofthe kingdom. I am eternally grateful for the words of life contained in the scriptures and continue tostudy them and try to understand them even better. It is a lifelong process.

    Truthfullness vs. Deception

    Message From Hermana Dayton

17 de Enero de 2016El larn de El Faro

uthfulness is earning future trust by accurately reporting past facts. In the scriptures we learn thathrist is the light, life and TRUTH of the world (John 14:6). He is the perfect example of truthfulness. In

he D&C 18:21 we are admonished to speak the truth in soberness and in the D&C 50:17 it says, "thoseent forth to preach word of truth should preach by the spirit of truth." And our thirteenth Atricle ofaith says, "We believe in being HONEST." In our church we are taught to be TRUTHFUL!

Most people think of Abraham Lincoln when they identify a person who was truthful. I rememberrom grade school, hearing the story of Abraham Lincoln walking several miles to return 6 cents thate had overcharged a person by mistake when he was working as a shop clerk. He also purchased a

ore with a partner and fell in to debt. He sold the store and then the new owner disappeared. Thereditors turned to Abraham Lincoln to pay off the debts. It took him 12 years to pay off the entireebt. Because of his integrity he earned the trust of the American people and became the presidenf the United States.

remember many years ago my 6 year old daughter came in from playing outside and she had arge bag of oranges. She had picked them off of our neighbors tree. When I inquired she said it was

ne because the tree limb was hanging over our fence in the back yard and it was on our property. alked with her over to the neighbor and had her tell the woman what she had done. The neighborraciously thanked her and told her she could keep the oranges. To this day, that daughter tells me

hat any time she is tempted to tell a white lie or do something dishonest, she thinks of that story. Each

f us probably has a story where we learned the importance of being truthful.

We can apply truthfulness to missionary work

-By reporting accurately what we do in our planning books.-By being obedient to the rules in the mission handbook.-By not distorting the truth, hiding information, misleading or telling white lies.-By not exaggerating... by sticking to the facts when we tell of experiences and stories.-By acknowledging mistakes we make.-By facing the facts--face the truth instead of living a lie.-By speaking the truth, never gossiping and spreading rumors.

resident Dayton and I are very grateful for each of you. Thank you for your goodness. We feelrateful to be working with such hard working, obedient, truthful missionaries.

We will continue to pray for your happiness and success as you continue to bring the good people inpain to Christ.

    Much love and admiration

Absolutely crazy week! Wehave been so blessed here on

the islands! This Saturday wehad the opportunity to baptizeMagdalena, Silvio, ANDSteven. I felt so blessed thatSilvio chose me to baptize him.It was such a sacred privilege. Ihave loved seeing all three ofthese people make decisionsto follow Christ and enter into isfold. I have so much love for allthree of them I can't even

express it. I love my missionpresident. We are so blessedand I have learned so much.Well, this morning when Iopened my email, I discoveredthat my mom safely deliveredbaby Sophy!

This week Noelia wasbaptized. It was a wonderfulservice and It was an honor tohelp be a part of it. A coupleof weeks ago her mom Nelywas preparing to be baptized. As we were there helping herget prepared Noelia got thedesire to be baptized and thislast week she was finallybaptized. Here in ______ I thinkthat there are a lot ofprepared people.

This week was a lot, but I'm so

grateful for it. I'm growing outof my comfort zone andappreciating my companionmore as she tries to beinvolved in the work despitewhat's going on. Patrick'sbaptism was my first, and Iknow it'll always be close to myheart. I know this is God's work, and I'm so glad to be hereserving. Thank you for helping

us and the other missionaries somuch, it makes every bit of adifference. Have a greatweek!

President it has been anotheramazing week her in______. Amiracle for me this week wasthe lesson Elder ____ and I hadwith an interigator JoseFernando on Saturday night. We started talking to himabout about baptism and hewants to but he had 2problems. 1) he did not havea testimony that the book ofMormon was true. We then

read a chapter with him 3Nephi 11 and after we readMoronis promise at the end ofthe Book of Mormon. I thenasked if he thought that hecould receive an answer righthere and now. He was unsureand i assured him that hecould. We then asked if wecould do a pray circle and so Iprayed and then Elder _____

and then Jose prayed. Thespirit was super strong in theroom and after Jose prayedwe all just sat there and felt thespirit for like 5 minutes. We thenasked how he felt and he saidhe felt a peace but he was notsure if that was his answer orwhat. I then read him D&C 6:23-24. He thought that scripturewas amazing and he knew he

had received an answer. Elder____ and I then promised if hedid the same thing we did inthe lesson he could receive thesame answer as anotherconfirmation. The secondproblem he has is with coffee. The spirit prompted me to givehim a promise. The promisewas if he read 1 chapter fromthe book of Mormon every

morning he will have no desireto drink coffee.

This week president was fullof miracles! It was fantastic! To start we have 4 fechas all

of which have over an 80%possibility of being baptized!I'm super stoked for it andtruly the lord is blessing us! Weare expecting to see lots ofbaptisms to start the year! The zone also is doingfantastic we had an averageof 1.7 fechas which is thehighest the zones had inalmost a year as far as we

saw it! So we are reallyexcited about the things thatare happening!

One of those is that Carmen, the mother of our two recentconverts just told us that shenow has two jobs. One in themiddle of the week and oneon the weekend, and she isabout to drop the one that ison the weekends so she cancome to church regularly withher daughters. That is superawesome because she is amenos activo that hasn'tbeen to church in 13 or 14years until she went to thebaptisms of her daughters. Its awesome to watch theirfamily grow and work tomake church a priority. That'sone reactivation for Sabadell.

What is even cooler for theirfamily, is that their cousin,Yolanda, was present for thewhole process for one of thegirls in their family. With thatshe has officially been to twobaptisms, has heard all of thelessons, and has watchedseveral conference talks andthe Restoration movie! Rightat this moment Elder ____ and

Elder ____ have her on fechafor the 30th of this month! Thewhole family is hopping in thewater one by one.
