Conjunctions คอ คาสนธานททาหนาทเชอมคา กลมคา หรอประโยคเขาดวยกน แบงออกเปน 2 ชนดใหญๆ ไดแก Co-ordinate Conjunction และ Subordinate Conjunction 2.1 Co-ordinate Conjunction คาสนธานทเมอเชอมลงไปแลวทาใหเกดประโยคความรวม หรอ Compound Sentence คอ ประโยค 2 ประโยคทมารวมกนโดยใชคาเชอม แบงออกเปน 4 แบบใหญๆ ดงน เชอมแบบคลอยตาม เชอมแบบขดแยง เชอมแบบใหเลอก เชอมแบบแสดงเหตผล

2.1.4 ค าสนธานแบบแสดงเหตผล ไดแก So, For, Therefore, Accordingly ค าสนธาน ความหมาย ตวอยาง

So

ดงนน You look tired so you should stop working. คณดเหนอย ดงนนคณควรจะหยดการทางาน

For

เพราะวา She is very sad, for she has no money. เธอดเศรามาก เพราะวาเธอไมมเงน

Therefore

ดงนน He had a toothache, therefore he didn’t go to work. เขาปวดฟน ดงนนเขาจงไมไปทางาน

Accordingly

2.2 Subordinate Conjunction คาสนธานทเมอเชอมลงไปแลวทาใหเกดประโยคความซอน หรอ Complex

Sentence คอ ประโยค 2 ประโยคทมาซอนกนดวยคาเชอม แตหากขาดประโยคใดประโยคหนงไป จะทาใหใจความไมสมบรณ แบงออกเปน 4 กลม ไดแก สนธานแสดงสถานทสนธานแสดงเวลา สนธานแสดงเหตผล และสนธานแสดงวตถประสงค

2.2.1 ค าสนธานแสดงสถานท ไดแก Where, Wherever

ค าสนธาน ความหมาย ตวอยาง Where

ทซง He will go to the school where his son learns. เขาจะไปโรงเรยนทลกชายของเขาเรยนอย

Wherever

ทใดกตาม Araya will live wherever he lives อารยะจะอยทใดกตามทเขาอย

2.2.2 ค าสนธานแสดงเวลา ไดแก After, Before, During, Until, When, Whenever, As long as , Since

ค าสนธาน ความหมาย ตวอยาง After หลง She slept after you have left her home.

เธอนอนหลบหลงจากคณออกจากบานของเธอ Before

กอน Poke finished homework before you saw him. พกทางานบานเสรจกอนทคณจะพบกบเขา

During ระหวาง Vicha is sleeping during you are swimming. วชากาลงนอนหลบในระหวางคณกาลงวายนา

Until จนกระทง He would be there until she gets home. เขาจะอยทนนจนกระทงเธอมาถงบาน

2.2.3 ค าสนธานแสดงเหตผล ไดแก Because, Since, Though, Although, Why, How, If, Whether

ค าสนธาน ความหมาย ตวอยาง Because เพราะวา He had a stroke because he didn’t relax.

เขาเปนลมเพราะวาเขาไมไดพกผอน Since

เนองจาก She was sick since she has worked too hard. เธอปวยเนองจากทางานหนกเกนไป

Though ถงแมวา I won’t love her though she is beautiful. ผมจะไมรกเธอ ถงแมวาเธอจะสวย

Although

ถงแมวา Ladda won’t help although he requests her. ลดดาจะไมชวยถงแมวาเขาจะขอรอง

Why เพราะเหตใด I don’t know why she hates me. ผมไมรวาเพราะเหตใดเธอจงเกลยดผม

How อยางไร She knows how he loves her. เธอรวาเขารกเธออยางไร

2.2.4 ค าสนธานแสดงวตถประสงค ไดแก That, So that, In order that, As, As if, Lest

ค าสนธาน ความหมาย ตวอยาง That เพอวา He works hard that she would love him.

เขาทางานหนกเพอวาเธอจะรกเขา So that เพอทวา I tried hard so that I will pass the exam.

ฉนเรยนหนกเพอวาผมจะสอบผาน In order that เพอทวา She came here in order that she might see me.

เธอมาทนเพอทวาเธอจะไดพบกบผม As ตามท He will do as she has told him.

เขาจะทาตามทเธอบอกเขา As if ราวกบวา He acted as if he were the Prime Minister.

เขาแสดงราวกบวาเขาเปนนายกรฐมนตร Lest ดวยเกรงวา Dang took care of June lest she would suicide.
