Father-in-law of ‘el Chapo’ Guzman arrested in Mexico

CD. DE MÉXICO – El suegro del conocido narcotraficante Joaquín ‘el Chapo’ Guzmán, líder del Cártel del Golfo, fue arrestado el 30 de abril, informaron autoridades de la Policía federal.

Inés Coronel Barreras fue detenido por ser presunto responsable de delitos contra la salud “en la modalidad de producción, almacenamiento y trasiego de marihuana”.

El anuncio de este importante arresto se realizó en la sala de prensa de la Secretaría de Gobernación, donde se mostraron imágenes del sospechoso en video.

Eduardo Sánchez, subsecretario de Normatividad de Medios de la Secretaría de Gobernación, indicó que la captura se realizó a las 7 de la mañana del 30 de abril en Agua Prieta, Sonora, como resultado de una investigación que comenzó en enero de este año. “La operación se llevó a cabo sin un solo disparo”, dijo.

“Se logró la detención de Inés Coronel Barreras, de 45 años, en Agua Prieta, Sonora; presunto responsable de delitos contra la salud en la modalidad de producción, almacenamiento y trasiego de mariguana”, dijo Sánchez.

“De conformidad con la investigación a la que he hecho referencia, Coronel Barreras

se dedicaba a la producción de mariguana en la sierra de Durango, así como de coordinar su trasiego en los municipios de San Luis Río Colorado, Cananea y Agua Prieta”.

Se presentaron las imágenes del sospechoso ya que, de acuerdo a Sánchez, esto servirá para que cualquier persona que tenga información sobre sus actividades la aporte a las autoridades.

“El propósito de presentar el rostro de esta persona es, precisamente, que el público, los ciudadanos, puedan identificarlo en caso de que hayan sido víctimas de algún delito por parte de este presunto delincuente”, explicó.

Con especial énfasis se recalcó en la conferencia de prensa que se estaban procurando proteger los derechos humanos de Coronel Barreras y de sus cuatro cómplices que fueron detenidos en el mismo operativo, incluyendo uno de sus hijos.

“Esta persona está siendo trasladada a las instalaciones de la subprocuraduría a la que ya hemos hecho referencia, ahí se le tratará con respeto a los derechos humanos.”, dijo Sánchez.

“Se procederá conforme al proceso que se establece en las leyes penales y que está garantizado por la Constitución en todos los procesos penales que se lleven a cabo en nuestro territorio”.

En la conferencia de prensa se dijo que Inés Coronel Barreras es el padre de la tercera esposa de ‘el Chapo’ Guzmán, Emma Coronel Aispuro, con quien se casó en 2007 en la localidad de La Angostura, en el municipio de Canelas en Durango.

Además de Coronel Barreras fueron detenidos otros cuatro hombres: Inés Omar Coronel Aispuro, cuñado de ‘El Chapo’, de 25 años; Juan Elías Ruiz Beltrán, de 25 años; José Heriberto Beltrán Cárdenas, de 23 años; y Reinaldo

Ríos Morales, de 50 años.A los arrestados se les aseguraron

dos vehículos, 32 paquetes que presuntamente contienen marihuana con un peso aproximado de 255 kilos, cuatro armas largas, un arma corta, cargadores abastecidos y decenas de cartuchos útiles.

“Algunos otros datos con los que ya contamos nos están permitiendo, desafortunadamente no lo podemos compartir en este momento, pero nos están permitiendo abundar en la investigación y continuar con el trabajo que tiene que ver

con la detención de las personas relacionadas con este grupo”, dijo Sánchez.

“Insisto, se encargaba de la producción, el almacenamiento y el trasiego de marihuana hacia Estados Unidos, desde el territorio de Sonora hacia el territorio de Arizona”.

Explicó que Coronel Barreras no tiene peticiones de extradición a Estados Unidos, a pesar de que ese país lo tiene fichado. El 10 de enero de este año Estados Unidos lo incluyó en su lista de narcotraficantes de peso.

MEXICO CITY – The father-in-law of the renowned drug lord Joaquin ‘el Chapo’ Guzman, leader of the Gulf Cartel, was arrested April 30 in Mexico, according to the Federal Police.

Ines Coronel Barreras was arrested for crimes against health “in the modality of production, storage and transportation of marijuana.”

The announcement of this important capture was made in the press room of the Secretary of the Interior, where images of the suspect where shown on video screens.

Eduardo Sanchez, deputy director of Media for the Secretary of the Interior, said the capture was conducted at 7 a.m. April 30 in Agua Prieta, Sonora, as a result of

intelligence work that started in January of this year. “The operation was conducted without a single shot (fired),” he said.

“The capture of Ines Coronel Barreras, 45, was made in Agua Prieta, Sonora; he is allegedly responsible of crimes against health in the modality of production, storage and transportation of marijuana”, Sanchez said.

“In conformity with the investigation that I have made reference to, coronel Barreras was into production of marijuana on the mountains of Durango, and coordinated its transportation in the municipalities of San Luis Rio Colorado, Cananea and Agua Prieta.

Images of the man were shown on screens, to allow people who have information about him to come

forward and notify authorities, according to Sanchez.

“The objective of presenting this person’s face is, precisely, that the public, the citizens, could identify him in case they have been victims of some crime by this alleged criminal,” he explained.

Sanchez made special emphasis during the press conference on the human rights of Coronel Barreras and the other four accomplices arrested, including one of his sons.

“This person is being taken to the office we have mentioned, and there he will be treated with respect to his human rights,” Sanchez said.

“The process established by criminal laws and guaranteed by the Constitution in all the criminal proceedings that take place in our territory will be followed.”

During the press conference it was informed that Coronel Barreras is the father of ‘el Chapo’ Guzman’s third wife, Emma Coronel Aispuro, whom he married in 2007 in La Angostura, a town in the municipality of Canelas, in the state of Durango.

Besides Coronel Barreras, four other men were apprehended: Ines Omar Coronel Aispuro, ‘El Chapo’ Guzman’s brother-in-law, 25; Juan Elias Ruiz Beltran, 25; Jose Heriberto Beltran Cardenas, 23; and Reinaldo Rios Morales, 50.

Authorities confiscated several items at the time of the capture, including two vehicles, 32 packages that allegedly contain marijuana and have a total weight of about 225 kilos, four long weapons, one handgun, loaded

chargers and ammunition.“Some other information that we

have is allowing us, unfortunately we cannot share details at this time, but are allowing us to go deeper in the investigation and continue working on things related with the detention of people linked to this group,” Sanchez said.

“I insist, he was in charge of production, storage and transportation of marijuana to the United States, from the territory of Sonora to the territory of Arizona.”

Sanchez explained that Coronel Barreras does not have any extradition requests pending from the United States, even though that country has kept tabs on him, On Jan. 10 the United States included him in the list of the most prominent drug dealers.

BOSTON – La policía de Boston dijo que otros tres sospechosos habían sido detenidos en relación

con el atentado en la Maratón de Boston que sucedió el pasado 15 de abril.

De acuerdo a CNN, los tres detenidos están bajo custodia del FBI y no de la policía de Boston.

Hasta el cierre de esta edición no se habían dado detalles sobre los detenidos, solamente que no representan una amenaza para la población.

La noticia se dio a conocer por medio de Twitter.

“Tres sospechosos adicionales en custodia en el caso del atentado en el maratón” dijo la policía local en

su cuenta de Twitter el 1 de mayo.De acuerdo al diario The Boston

Globe, los detenidos son tres estudiantes universitarios que tienen vínculos con Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Aparentemente estos tres ayudaron al menor de los hermanos a esconderse luego de los atentados.

Los tres arrestados son estudiantes, de acurdo al CNN.

Hasta el momento los hermanos Dzhokhar y Tamerlan Tsarnaev eran los únicos sospechosos del atentado. Tamerlan falleció en un enfrentamiento con la policía y Dzhokhar permanece internado

en el hospital de una prisión en el estado de Massachusetts.

Al momento de estos nuevos arrestos oficiales del FBI se encontraban investigando a quién pertenece el ADN de una mujer que fue encontrado en una de las bombas utilizadas en los atentados.

Agentes del FBI han hablado con Katherine Russell, viuda de Tamerlan, quien ha cooperado con las autoridades.

Ella dijo que no iba a reclamar los restos de su esposo, que debían ser entregados a su suegra para su sepultura.

Three new suspects arrested in Boston

BOSTON – Boston Police said three suspects had been detained in connection with the Boston Marathon attack on April 15.

According to CNN the three suspects are under the custody of the FBI. The news broke via Twitter.

“Three additional suspects are in

custody in the case of the marathon attack,” the local police posted on their Twitter account.

According to The Boston Globe, the three suspects were college students who have links to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Apparently the three of them helped the younger brother to hide after the attack.

The arrests were reported May 1.

Bajo el nuevo proyecto de ley de inmigración (todavía no es una ley), hay tres caminos principales hacia la ciudadanía. Uno, los soñadores; dos, el camino estándar; tres, los trabajadores agrícolas.

Bajo el proceso de los ‘dreamers’ o soñadores, si usted fue aprobado para el programa de Acción Diferida para los Llegados en la Infancia (DACA, por sus siglas

en inglés), bajo la ley propuesta usted puede obtener una tarjeta de residencia permanente si usted ya ha sido aprobado para el programa DACA. Para obtener su tarjeta de residencia usted debe de haber sido aprobado para el programa DACA y además haber completado cuando menos dos años de estudios universitarios o haber estado cuatro años en las fuerzas militares de los Estados Unidos. Entonces, luego de que haya pagado todos los impuestos atrasados y cualquier impuesto

federal que deba, usted puede recibir su tarjeta de residencia permanente, y es una espera de cinco años antes de que pueda convertirse en un ciudadano estadounidense.

Bajo el camino estándar a la ciudadanía, si usted es un inmigrante indocumentado en los Estados Unidos, usted puede ser elegible bajo el nuevo proyecto de ley. Usted no puede haber sido encontrado culpable de una felonía, tres o más crímenes menores, votación ilegal o una ofensa bajo la ley federal. Tampoco puede ser un posible terrorista, en base a la descripción del Departamento de Seguridad Nacional, y usted debe haber entrado a los Estados Unidos antes del 31 de diciembre de 2011. Si usted cubre estos requisitos, usted puede convertirse en un inmigrante provisional registrado (RPI).

Bajo el camino estándar, usted recibirá estatus de RPI por seis años. Usted puede solicitar de nuevo este estatus si no ha pasado más de 60 días consecutivos sin trabajo o 180 días fuera del país, y usted no tiene posibilidades de convertirse en una carga pública y recibir asistencia federal. En ese momento usted puede someter de nuevo la solicitud para RPI y luego, después de un periodo de tiempo, usted puede solicitar la ciudadanía estadounidense. El camino más rápido bajo el plan estándar es de 13 años a partir del momento en que solicita inicialmente el estatus RPI hasta que se convierte en ciudadano.

El tercer camino es si usted ha sido un trabajador agrícola por cuando menos 100 días ó 575 horas entre los años 2011 y 2012. En ese momento usted puede solicitar una tarjeta agrícola, que le permite trabajar en Estados unidos por cinco años. Después de los cinco años, si usted realizó labores agrícolas

por cuando menos 150 días en tres de los últimos cinco años, usted puede solicitar una tarjeta de residencia. Después de tres años, usted puede hacer la solicitud para convertirse en ciudadano de los Estados unidos.

La nueva propuesta de ley de inmigración está siendo debatida actualmente en el Senado estadounidense. Después de que sea aprobada, irá a la Cámara de Representantes y, si es sometida a votación y aprobada ahí, avanza al escritorio del presidente, para que la firme y se convierta en ley. Yo espero que esto dure varios meses, si no es que todo el verano.

Tome en cuenta que esto es solamente una propuesta de ley, la legislación puede ser substancialmente diferente o tal vez puede ser muy parecida a la ley propuesta actualmente, es por eso que en Washington D. C. debaten estos asuntos, para tener el mejor consenso y hacer un proyecto de ley que pueda ser aprobado.

PROPOSED new immigration bill: paths to citizenship

Under the new immigration bill (is not law yet) there are three main paths to citizenship.

One, the Dreamers; two, the standard; three, agricultural workers.

Under the Dreamer process, if you are approved for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) program under the proposed law, you can obtain a permanent residency card if you have already been approved for the DACA program. In order to obtain your green card you must have been approved for the DACA program and either completed at least two years of college or served in the United States military for four years. Then, after you have paid your back taxes and any federal income taxes that you owe, you would receive your permanent residency card, and it is a five-year wait until you can become a U.S. citizen.

Under the standard path to citizenship, if you are an undocumented immigrant in

the United States, you may be eligible for citizenship under the new proposed bill. You cannot have been convicted of a felony, three or more misdemeanors, unlawful voting or an offense under federal law. You also cannot be a potential terrorist as defined by the Department of Homeland Security, and you must have entered the United States before December 31, 2011. If you meet these requirements, you may become a registered provisional immigrant (RPI).

Under the standard path you will be granted RPI status for six years. You can reapply if you have not spent more than 60 consecutive days unemployed or 180 days out of the country, and you are not likely to become a public charge and receive federal assistance. At that point you can reapply for your RPI and then, after a period of time, you can apply for U.S. citizenship. The fastest path under the standard plan is 13 years from when you initially apply for RPI status to become a U.S. citizen.

The third path is if you have been an agricultural worker for at least 100 days or 575 hours between the years 2011 and 2012. At that point you can apply for an agricultural card, which allows you to work in the United States for five years. And after five years, if you perform agricultural work for at least 150 days in each of the three out of the last five years, you can apply for a permanent residency green card. After three years, then you can apply for U.S. citizenship.

The proposed new immigration law is being debated in the U.S. Senate currently. After it is approved, it will then go to the U.S. House of Representatives and, if voted on and approved there, it will then continue to the president’s desk for the president to sign it and become law. I anticipate this to take several months, if not all of summer, to continue to process.

Please be advised this is only a proposed law, the actual legislation may be substantially different or may be somewhat very similar to

the currently proposed law, that is why they debate these issues in Washington, D.C. to come up with the best consensus, and come up with a bill that can actually pass.

AURORA – Un hombre de 36 años de edad resultó seriamente herido la madrugada del 27 de abril, luego de que su vehículo se pasara un semáforo en rojo en Aurora y se volteara, indicaron reportes preliminares de la policía. El hombre fue trasladado a un hospital suburbano vía helicóptero.

La policía dijo que el hombre no identificado manejaba de forma imprudente en el área de McCoy Drive y Eola Road a las 12:27 a.m. en Aurora. El chofer se pasó un semáforo en rojo en la intersección a alta velocidad y dio vuelta en Frontenac Street, en dirección sur, donde perdió el control de su automóvil y el vehículo se volteó. La policía dijo que el alcohol pudo haber sido un factor en el choque.

Aurora crash leaves man severely injured

AURORA – A 36-year-old man was severely injured in a car crash early April 27, when his car ran a red light in Aurora and flipped over, according to preliminary police reports. The man was airlifted to a suburban hospital.

The police said the unidentified man was driving recklessly by the McCoy Drive and Eola Road intersection in Aurora at 12:27 a.m. The driver blew a red light at a high rate of speed and turned southbound on Frontenac Street; he then lost control of the vehicle and flipped over. Police said alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.

REDACCIÓN UNA VOZ

AURORA – Carmen Cantú, quien recientemente fue candidata a administradora del Municipio de Aurora, murió en un choque automovilístico en la carretera Interestatal 88.

De acuerdo a autoridades del municipio, Cantú, de 61 años, falleció en un choque entre tres vehículos el 22 de abril, después de chocar contra otro automóvil en la Interestatal 88 cerca de los límites de los condados de Kane y DeKalb.

La Policía Estatal de Illinois informó que un camión había comenzado a derramar etanol después del accidente, en el que resultó lesionado Duane Buell, de 45 años de edad.

Cantú fue una de cuatro candidatas a administrador del Municipio de Aurora por el partido demócrata en las elecciones del pasado mes de abril. Esta es la primera

vez que participaba como candidato a un puesto de elección popular.

Cantú trabajaba como contratista para el departamento de Niños y Familias del estado, haciendo visitas a niños, informó su hija, Verónica Cantú, de 42 años y residente de Aurora.

“Ella quería a los niños y los bebés. Ella fue muy protectora de cada niño que tuvo”, dijo su hija. “Tenía una pasión por sus clientes y ellos lo sentían”.

El supervisor electo del Municipio de Aurora, Bill Catching, dijo que Cantú era una mujer amable, temerosa de Dios, que amaba su iglesia, la Iglesia Metodista Nueva Vida en Aurora.

A Cantú le sobreviven sus dos hijas, Verónica y Evelyn, así como una nieta.

El velorio se realizó el 27 de abril en la Iglesia Metodista Nueva Vida en Aurora. El funeral se realizará en Brownsville, Texas el 7 de mayo.

AURORA – Investigadores federales están investigando una supuesta violación a los derechos civiles de los estudiantes en el Distrito Escolar del Este de Aurora por el acoso de dos estudiantes de escuela secundaria.

La Oficina de Derechos Civiles del Departamento de Educación informó al distrito hace unos meses que iba a realizar una investigación para obtener datos sobre un asunto estudiantil, dijo el abogado Bernard Weiler, quien representa al distrito escolar.

Weiler dijo que el personal del distrito ha cooperado totalmente con esta investigación, proporcionando documentos y realizando entrevistas.

AURORA – Federal investigators are looking into an alleged violation of student civil rights at the East Aurora School District, in the bullying of two middle-school students.

The U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights told the district several months ago that they were going to conduct a fact-finding investigation to gather information about a student issue, according to Bernard Weiler, an attorney representing the school district.

Weiler said district personnel have been cooperating fully with the investigation, providing documents and interviews.

The attorney said that because this is an issue that involves student private files, he cannot say which student or students filed the civil rights complaint, what school or schools are involved or exactly how long ago the school district was notified of the investigation.

However, School Board President Annette Johnson said that the investigation involved two middle-school

students, one who had attended Simmons Middle School, and another one who had transferred between Waldo and Cowherd middle schools.

“This is a fact-finding process and they pursue whatever issues are being investigated and they’re fairly thorough,” Weiler said, adding that this is not the first time the district complies with this type of investigation.

The complaints can be filed against any educational institution that receives financial aid from the federal government, in case of alleged discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability or age. The person, who alleges discrimination, or someone on his or her behalf, must submit the complaint within 180 days of the alleged incident, according to the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights.

The job of this office is to resolve the complaint by acting as a “neutral fact-finder” that “does not act as an advocate for either party during the process.”

Weiler said these investigations continue until federal attorneys and investigators determine what actions need to be taken.

AURORA – Carmen Cantu, who recently sought to be elected as an Aurora Township trustee, died in a car crash on I-88.

According to township authorities, Cantu, 61, died in a three-vehicle crash on April 22, after crashing with another vehicle on I-88 near the DeKalb County-Kane County border.

Illinois State Police said a truck began leaking ethanol after the accident. A man, Duane Buell, 45, was also injured in the accident.

Cantu was one of four trustee candidates running for the Democratic Party in the elections held last April. This is the first time she was running for office.

Cantu worked as a contractor for the Department of Children and Family Services, doing visitations with children, according to her daughter, Veronica, an Aurora resident.

“She loved babies and children. Every child she had she was very protective of,” Veronica said. “She had a passion for her clients and they felt that.”

Aurora Township Supervisor-elect, Bill Catching, said Cantu was a kind, God-fearing woman who loved her church, the Nueva Vida Methodist Church.

Cantu is survived by her two daughters, Veronica and Evelyn, and a granddaughter.

A visitation was held on April 27 at the church. A funeral will take place May 7 in Brownsville, Texas.

MORELIA – Cuando menos 14 personas murieron durante un sangriento fin de semana en Michoacán, de acuerdo a las autoridades.

Además, las personas que viven en la denominada Tierra Caliente del estado se encuentran encerradas a piedra y lodo en sus viviendas, temerosos de salir a la calle y ser asesinados.

La Procuraduría General de Justicia del Estado (PGJE) dijo que el saldo final de los choques entre integrantes de una “policía comunitaria” y miembros de un cártel de la

droga es de 14 muertos.Las muertes se registraron en los

municipios de Buena Vista Tomatlán, Tepalcatepec y Apatzingán.

Un funcionario de la Policía del estado, quien deseó conservar el anonimato, dijo que hombres armados que trabajan para un cártel atacaron a los vigilantes mientras montaban guardia en retenes de carreteras.

De acuerdo con reportes preliminares de la PGJE, los enfrentamientos comenzaron alrededor de las 5 de la mañana del 28 de abril, cuando grupos de civiles con armas de alto poder ingresaron a comunidades

ubicadas en los municipios ya mencionados, donde atacaron por sorpresa a miembros de las policías comunitarias que realizaba labores de vigilancia.

El 29 de abril la Secretaría de Educación Pública de Michoacán suspendió clases en todos los niveles en el municipio de Apatzingán, debido a los tiroteos registrados el día anterior.

En uno de los incidentes en La Nopalera Poniente, en el municipio de Buena Vista Tomatlán, las autoridades confiscaron 5 fusiles de alto poder, 4 pistolas, 44 cargadores, un lanzacohetes y 4 granadas.

Por otra parte, en la población de La Ruana, la vida cotidiana se ha interrumpido. Las personas no salen de sus casas, los alimentos se están terminando en las tiendas, el gas para cocinar se está terminando y los hombres buscan desesperadamente combustible para sus vehículos, pero ninguna gasolinera está abierta porque hay una amenaza de incendiar las pipas abastecedoras si llegan a este lugar.

Mientras tanto, hay quienes portan sus armas de fuego todo el tiempo para evitar que gente armada y desconocida les quite sus pertenencias.

On April 29, the Department of Public Education in Michoacan cancelled classes across the board in the municipality of Apatzingan, as a result of the shootings from the day before.

In one of the incidents in the municipality of Buena Vista Tomatlan, in the town of La Nopalera Poniente, authorities seizes 5 high-powered weapons, 4 pistols, 44 chargers, a rocket launcher and 4 grenades.

Meanwhile in the town of La Ruana, everyday life has been interrupted. People are staying home, food is running out at local grocery stores, cooking gas is also running out and men are desperately trying to get their hands on fuel for their vehicles, but no service stations are open. El vehículo, con ventanillas antibalas, es conocido como “La Bestia”, ya que tiene carrocería de blindaje de ocho pulgadas y llantas a prueba de ponchaduras. Este vehículo es usado en las visitas oficiales del mandatario a otros países.

Durante su estancia en el país, Obama fue transportado en este vehículo, cuyo chofer está entrenado para responder a condiciones de manejo difíciles, como las que se enfrentan los automovilistas de la Ciudad de México todos los días, incluyendo marchas y zonas de

construcción.Las puertas de este vehículo tienen un

blindaje de ocho pulgadas, cuenta con aditamentos de gas lacrimógeno y escopetas. Además, solamente la ventanilla del conductor puede abrirse, en caso de ser necesario.

La carrocería de este particular vehículo está hecha a base de acero, aluminio y titanio. El chasis y el tanque de gasolina son capaces de soportar estallidos y explosiones. Por otra parte, las llantas tienen protección antibalas y cuentan con armazón de acero.

MEXICO CITY – The daughter of the head of the Consumer Protection agency in Mexico (Profeco), Humberto Martinez Trevino, was accused of threatening the owners of a well-known Mexico City restaurant and of using her “influence” to close down the place, after she didn’t get the table she wanted.

According to Gabriela Lopez, owner of Maximo Bistrot, the young woman, identified as Andrea Benitez Gonzalez, got upset the afternoon of April 26, when she arrived at the restaurant and found that the main tables were reserved .She was offered a different table but rejected it.

“The young woman got upset, she said it was her turn and she also wanted (a table) outside. I explained that we had to follow the order and that I could give her a table inside, but she started threatening me and told me her dad was the solicitor and that she was going to call him

and we would see who had more credibility,” Lopez told a Mexico City newspaper.

Hours later three inspectors from the Profeco agency closed down the place for alleged irregularities in the reservation system and the sale of mescal.

The business was closed down while clients were still inside. They were upset by the situation and started recording everything on their cell phones.

Faced with all the commotion caused by this information being disseminated on social media, the young woman and her father regretted the incident via Twitter.

Now the Department of Economy has said they are launching an investigation into this matter following direct instructions by President Enrique Peña Nieto.

Meanwhile, the secretary general of the Democratic Revolution Party, Alejandro Sanchez Camacho, has asked for Benitez Treviño to face sanctions for abuse of power.

DE MÉXICO – La hija del director de la Procuraduría Federal del Consumidor (Profeco), Humberto Martínez Treviño, fue acusada de amenazar a los dueños de un conocido restaurante en la Ciudad de México y de usar sus “influencias” para clausurar el lugar, luego de que no le dieran la mesa que quería.

Le expliqué que teníamos que seguir el orden y que le podía ofrecer una mesa adentro, y me empezó a amenazar y me dijo que su papá era el procurador y que le iba a hablar y que a ver a quién le creían más”, dijo López a un diario capitalino.

Horas después´, tres inspectores de la agencia Profeco clausuraron el lugar por supuestas irregularidades en el sistema de reservaciones y venta de mezcal.

El cierre se realizó aún cuando todavía había clientes adentro, quienes se molestaron por este atropello y comenzaron a grabar lo sucedido con sus teléfonos celulares.

Ante el revuelo causado en las redes sociales por este cierre, la joven y su padre se disculparon usando sus cuentas de Twitter.

El padre dijo que el estaba fuera de la oficina por una cirugía, pero que al enterarse de lo sucedido había dado instrucciones para que se suspendiera el operativo y se investigara la situación.

Ante esto, la Secretaría de Economía informó que el presidente de México, Enrique Peña Nieto, había iniciado una investigación para esclarecer los hechos.

Por su parte, el secretario general del Partido de la Revolución Democrática, Alejandro Sánchez Camacho, pidió sancionar a Benítez Treviño por abuso de poder.

The United States offered to capture ‘El Chapo’, Mexico rejected plan

CD DE MÉXICO – Estados Unidos aparentemente ofreció ayuda a los militares mexicanos para capturar al narcotraficante mexicano Joaquín ‘el Chapo’ Guzmán, en uno operativo de 15 minutos, pero la ayuda fue rechazada, esto de acuerdo a un periodista mexicano que acaba de presentar su libro sobre el tema.

“Los servicios de inteligencia de Estados Unidos lo tienen ubicado, saben dónde está y están listos para atraparlo”, dijo el periodista Jesús Esquivel a la agencia Efe. Él acaba de publicar un libro titulado “La DEA en México”.

El periodista indicó en la entrevista que el ex presidente de México Felipe Calderón quería que Estados Unidos atrapara al líder del Cártel de Sinaloa, pero que el Ejército y la Marina “se opusieron y pararon la operación”. El motivo de esta interferencia es porque el plan solamente usaba personal estadounidense.

Esquivel, José Baeza, miembro de la Agencia Antidrogas de Estados Unidos (DEA por sus siglas en inglés), dijo que en dos ocasiones su agencia entregó toda la información al gobierno mexicano sobre dónde podían encontrar al narcotraficante, y en ambas ocasiones logró escapar en un cuatrimotos por la sierra.

Baeza mencionó que el capo sigue libre porque tiene la protección de personas en varios niveles del gobierno, pero no reveló nombres.

“El día que arresten a ciertos políticos van a descubrir muchas verdades sobre los misterios del Chapo y del Cártel de Sinaloa”, dijo Baeza.

El agente dijo que el gobierno de México sabe dónde está el narcotraficante, debido a su propia inteligencia y a información recibida de la DEA y otras agencias.

Esquivel, quien es el corresponsal de la revista Proceso en Washington, dice en su libro que el Pentágono preparó un operativo similar al del ataque a Osama Bin Laden, líder

de al-Qaeda, para atrapar a Guzmán.De acuerdo al periodista, este plan todavía

está vigente y se tienen proyectos para ser presentado al nuevo presidente de México, Enrique Peña Nieto.

“La captura de este narcotraficante, si lo permitieran los mexicanos, sería algo tan fácil como arrebatarle un dulce a un niño”, dijo Esquivel. Sería una operación “sencilla, rápida y quirúrgica”.

El plan sería llevado a cabo por tres comandos estadounidenses, entrenados en acciones clandestinas en territorio enemigo, con apoyo de tres aviones de alta tecnología digital operados a control remoto y armados con misiles.

Las fuerzas, de acuerdo al plan, entrarían a la zona en helicópteros con artillería y dos de los grupos estarían a cargo del operativo principal, mientras el tercero estaría a cargo de cubrir a los otros dos en caso de represalias por parte de la gente de ‘el Chapo’.

“En 10 ó 15 minutos los dos equipos de asalto atraparían al objetivo”, dice el plan.

Los miembros de las fuerzas armadas mexicanas no estarían incluidos en este plan y “solo entrarían uniformados mexicanos para observar los resultados”.

El plan también incluye el uso de uniformes de fuerzas armadas mexicanas por parte de agentes estadounidenses con el fin de simular la participación mexicana en este operativo.

La captura de ‘el Chapo’ Guzmán es una prioridad para los Estados Unidos, de acuerdo a Esquivel, porque es la cabeza de la organización criminal más poderosa del mundo.

De acuerdo a información del gobierno mexicano y distintas agencias estadounidenses, el cártel de Sinaloa es el principal exportador de droga a Estados Unidos, América Latina, Europa, Asia y África.

Actualmente existe una recompensa de hasta cinco millones de dólares por información que lleve a la captura de Guzmán ofrecida por los Estados Unidos, mientras que el gobernó de México ha ofrecido una recompensa de 30 millones de pesos mexicanos (aproximadamente 2.4 millones de dólares).

MEXICO CITY – The United States apparently offered help to Mexican military officials to apprehend Mexican drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman in a 15-minute operation, but the help was rejected, this according to a Mexican journalist who recently published a book about this topic.

Baeza said the drug leader is still free because he has the protection of several people in all levels of government, but didn’t give any names.

“The day certain politicians are arrested they are going to uncover many truths about ‘El Chapo’ and the mysteries of the Sinaloa Cartel,” Baeza said.

The agent mentioned that the Mexican government knows where the drug dealer is, based on their own intelligence work and information received from the DEA and other agencies.

Esquivel, who is Proceso magazine’s correspondent in Washington, says in his book that the Pentagon prepared an operation

to capture ‘El Chapo’ that is very similar to the one conducted at Osama Bin Laden’s compound that ended in his death.

According to the journalist, this plan is still active and there are projects to present this plan to the new Mexican President, Enrique Peña Nieto.

“The capture of this drug dealer, if the Mexicans would allow it, would be as easy as taking candy away from a child,” Esquivel said. This would be a “simple, quick and surgical” operation.

The plan would be conducted by three U.S. commandos, trained in clandestine actions on enemy territory, with support of three remote-controlled digital drones equipped with missiles.

These forces, according to the plan, would get to the area in armed helicopters. Two of the teams would be in charge of the main operation, while the third would be in charge of covering the first two teams in case of retaliation fire from ‘El Chapo’ forces.

“In 10 or 15 minutes the two assault teams

would take care of the objective,” the plan states.Members of the Mexican armed forces

would not be included in this plan and “uniformed Mexican agents would enter only to observe the results.”

The plan also includes the use of uniforms from Mexican law enforcement agencies by U.S. agents, to simulate the participation of Mexican agents in this operation.

The capture of ‘El Chapo’ Guzman is a priority to the United States, according to Esquivel, because he is the head of the most powerful criminal organization in the world.

According to information from the Mexican government and several U.S. agencies, the Sinaloa Cartel is the main exporter of drugs to the United States, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa.

Currently there is a reward from the U.S. government of up to $5 million for information that leads to ‘El Chapo’ being captured, while the Mexican government has offered a reward of 30 million pesos (about $2.4 million.)

ELGIN – Investigadores están tratando de determinar qué causó un incendio de “origen sospechoso” en una planta industrial en el oeste de la ciudad.

Terry Bruce, jefe de batallón del Departamento de Bomberos de Elgin dijo que se había activado una alarma de humo en las instalaciones de Advanced Engineering, 440 S. McLean Blvd., alrededor de las 10 p.m. del 28 de abril.

Sin embargo, los bomberos descubrieron algo alarmante. Si el incendio hubiera sido más grande y hubieran necesitado más agua, habrían estado en problemas.

Resulta que con la construcción en la Ruta 20 y McLean Boulevard, el hidrante que cubre esta zona no está en servicio.

ELGIN – Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire “of suspicious origin” at a west-side Elgin industrial plant.

Terry Bruce, Battalion Chief of the Elgin Fire Department, said a smoke alarm had activated at the site of Advanced Engineering, 440 S. McLean Blvd., at about 10 p.m. April 28.

When the units arrived they discovered that there was a fire burning in the materials warehouse of the company and that the whole building had been filled with smoke.

Bruce said the fire had been extinguished quickly and had been limited to 20 bundles of steel piping that the company had imported from China. He said the piping had been covered with burlap and coated in oil to prevent corrosion.

Firefighters said that there is no estimate yet on the damages caused by the fire. Bruce also said that nobody was inside

the building when they arrived, but at first they thought someone was inside and had been overcome by the smoke, because an employee had left his car parked in the parking lot.

In this case firefighters didn’t have to cause much damage to doors or windows, because the company had installed a lockbox to keep the keys to the plant handy.

“We have been pushing for businesses to install lockboxes, so we can have quick access to a door key if there is an emergency,” Bruce said .”This plant has one, so we were able to get in without causing further damage to the doors or windows.”

However, firefighters discovered something alarming. If the fire had been larger and they would have needed more water, they would have been in trouble.

It turns out that construction on Route 20 and McLean Boulevard knocked the area’s fire hydrant out of service.

ROCKFORD – A reckless act has sent a 9-year-old girl to the hospital, after she was hit with BB pellets.

Rockford Police said the night of April 29 a 20-year-old man, identified as Davente Brewer, of Rockford, was on a porch shooting a BB gun at passing cars.

Police said Brewer had shot and shattered the window of a passing car, injuring a 9-year-old girl who was in the back seat. The girl was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. The incident took place shortly before 10:30 p.m. April 29, near the intersection of Auburn and Latham.

After the shooting officers were sent to the 1400 block of Auburn to investigate and “their vehicle was stuck by what they thought could be gun fire or a BB,” Rockford Police Lt. Pat Hoey said.

WEST DUNDEE – A Chicago resident was sentenced for taking police on a wild chase through several northern Kane County communities while he was driving under the influence, then crashed into a West Dundee squad car, injuring several officers.

Henry Benjamin III, 39, of the 100 block of North Mozart Street in Chicago was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

On Jan. 3 Benjamin pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated driving under the influence, a felony, and aggravated driving on a suspended license, also a felony.

The incident took place at about 11:30 p.m.

March 12, 2011, when Benjamin was stopped by Carpentersville Police on Route 25, for a traffic violation. Benjamin refused to give the officer his driver’s license and proof of insurance.

Police said that when Benjamin tried to get something from the center console of the car, the officer got alarmed and a scuffle ensued.

Benjamin was able to put his car in gear and drove off, dragging the officer for a short distance.

Then Benjamin lead several squad cars on a chase through several jurisdictions at speeds that exceeded the limits posted on Route 25, west on route 68 and west on Route 72.

The chase ended at Route 31 and Route 72

in West Dundee, when Benjamin lost control of his car and crashed into a West Dundee patrol car.

Benjamin was taken into custody and the investigation revealed his blood alcohol level was .160 or double the legal limit.

One of the officers is still recovering from his injuries.

The judge also gave Benjamin an order to pay $31,097 to the village of West Dundee for damages caused to the police squad car. He has five years once he is released from prison to pay off that amount.

The judge also said that she had taken into consideration the public safety when imposing the long sentence. The judge said

she was surprised the injuries were not more severe and that nobody was killed, given the alarming nature of the incident, which was recorded on video.

Benjamin has four previous convictions for driving under the influence and has been in prison for driving under the influence.

He also has been convicted 25 times for driving on a suspended license. Benjamin was on parole from a previous conviction of driving under the influence at the time of the chase.

The sentence is 12 years for each count and they must be served concurrently.

Benjamin is eligible to receive credit for 777 days he spent at the Kane County jail.

ELGIN – A mother and her teenage son were arrested after she fired a gun into the air after a family altercation where her son brought her two rifles.

Police received multiple calls at 3:30 p.m. April 26, when a woman fired a gun into the air in the Poplar Creek subdivision, in the 1000 block of Peachtree Lane in Elgin.

According to police the woman had several weapons in her possession.

Twana Mosley, 35, heard of a fight that had taken place earlier in the neighborhood that involved several of her relatives, she then came out of her house with two firearms, according to Elgin police. She then confronted someone who had participated in the earlier

altercation and fired a gun into the air.Mosley’s 14-year-old son brought out two

rifles for his mother, according to police.Authorities quickly surrounded the home

and Mosley and her son were arrested without incident.

Police seized three weapons and two rifles during a search of the home.

Mosley was charged with two counts of felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, one count of felony reckless discharge of a firearm and a misdemeanor count of not having a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification Card.

CD. DE MÉXICO – Luego de pasar varios días en el hospital por un caso severo de bronconeumonía, la actriz Susana González ya está de vuelta al trabajo, contenta de estar viva pero triste porque uno de sus principales atractivos ha desaparecido.

González dijo que sus problemas comenzaron luego de cuatro días de ensayo del espectáculo ‘Aventurera’. Ella dijo que en el lugar de los ensayos hacía mucho calor y esto hizo que se le

desarrollara un problema en uno de sus pulmones.

“Se fue como un pequeño trombito al pulmón y gracias a dios fue muy pequeñito porque si no sí hubiera sido causa de muerte”, dijo la artista.

Ella explicó que tuvo que pasar varios días en el hospital y otros más de reposo en su casa antes de regresar a trabajar.

“Ya terminé con antibióticos y todo lo que estaba tomando” dijo González.

Ella explicó que a causa de esta problema de salud tuvo que dejar la obra ‘Aventurera’, pero tiene fe en nuevos

proyectos.“Ahorita que respiro me siento dichosa

y me siento al mujer más afortunada del mundo. No tengo ‘Aventurera’ pero respiro y estoy sana y estoy bien y puedo hacer mil cosas”.

Mientras que está feliz de estar viva, a González le duele que el fruto de todas las sesiones de ejercicio para tener buenas pompas haya desaparecido.

“Estar acostada durante catorce días o más o menos pues sí se te va el músculo y pues todo. Mis pompitas y todo. Ya quedé igual que como estaba”, dijo.

MEXICO CITY – After several days in the hospital for a serious bout of pneumonia, actress Susana Gonzalez is back to work, happy to be alive but saddened because one of her main physical attributes has disappeared.

Gonzalez said her problems started after four days of rehearsals for the show ‘Aventurera’. She said the rehearsal place was very hot and she developed a problem in one of her lungs.

“It was like a small clot to the lung, thankfully was very small, because otherwise it would have been cause of death,” Gonzalez said.

She explained that she spent several days in the hospital and on house rest before returning to her work.

“I finish with my antibiotics and everything I was taking,” she said.

Gonzalez explained that as a consequence of this problem, she had to leave the play ‘Aventurera’ but has faith in new projects.

“Now that I can breathe I feel happy and I am the luckiest woman on earth. I don’t have ‘Aventurera’ but I’m breathing and I am healthy and I am OK and I can do a thousand things.”

While she is happy of being alive, Gonzalez is hurt by the fact that all the exercise sessions she went through to have a great butt have been lost.

“By being on bed rest for 14 days or more, the muscle disappears and everything. My butt and everything. I am now the way I was before,” she said.
