Sowa Rigpa is the popular traditional medical system which is widely practiced in the Himalayan Region since ages. lt is one of the oldest living medical systems which trace its origin to the time of Lord Buddha. lt is well researched, documented and passed on from generations to generations.

Sowa Rigpa is one among the officially recognized medical systems in the Ministry of Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy), Government of India. The State Government of Arunachal Pradesh supports promotion of Sowa Rigpa by establishing study centres in the State through the Department of Karmik & Adhyatmik Affairs (Chos-Rig).

Considering its extensive acceptability among the people as an valuable age old traditional medical System, I strongly recommend nomination of "Sowa Rigpa" for inscription on the UNESCO's representation list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

LETTER OF CONSENT

Sowa-Rigpa, which is known as Tibetan Medicine, has a strong impact of Ayurveda and has been in practice in Indian Himalayan Region for thousands of years. Therefore, we agree with the nomination of SowaRigpa for inscription on the UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Culture Heritage of Humanity. We completely endorse and support the promotion of Sowa-Rigpa as Intangible Cultural Heritage. The nomination file reflects out the consent, aspiration, concerns and value of India on the importance of Sowa-Rigpa and its traditional aspects. Sowa-Rigpa, is no doubt, one of the oldest living time tested and well documented medical tradition of the world dedicated to well-being of human society. Its traditional aspects are closely linked with the community perception of its own history and memory.

I have been and will be actively involved in the implementation of the safeguarding measures proposed in the nomination file.
