1. Presentación Curso intensivo desarrollado en colaboración

con el Instituto Cervantes para personas que

desean mejorar sus conocimientos de lengua y

cultura española a través de clases de contenido

histórico orientadas al Toledo medieval y a

Sefarad.

El programa «Sefarad: Lengua, historia y cultura

en Toledo», integra dos cursos intensivos de

una semana de duración cada uno, organizados

conjuntamente por la UCLM y el Instituto

Cervantes. Está dirigido a estudiantes con un

nivel de español superior al B1, que deseen

mejorar su español y conocer a la vez un periodo

clave de la historia de España.

El alumno realiza este curso en Toledo, una ciudad que fue protagonista y partícipe de ese

momento histórico. El curso se realiza con el apoyo y colaboración del Museo Nacional

Sefardí, la Escuela de Traductores de Toledo y el Centro Sefarad.

El alumno puede optar por cursar uno o los dos cursos:

«Toledo y Sefarad, periodo clave de la historia de España» (Curso I).

«Después de Sefarad, cinco siglos construyendo la identidad sefardí» (Curso II).

Ambos cursos ofrecen un interesante programa cultural que incluye actividades por la tarde

con visitas a monumentos y escenarios de interés relacionados con la temática abordada.

Al finalizar el curso el alumno recibe un certificado acreditativo del curso firmado por ambas

instituciones (UCLM e Instituto Cervantes).

SEPHARAD: LANGUAGE, HISTORY AND CULTURE IN TOLEDO

1. Presentation Intensive course organized in collaboration

with the Instituto Cervantes for people

wishing to improve their knowledge of

Spanish language and culture. Language

and culture are taught through historical

content-based lessons focused on medieval

Toledo and Sepharad.

The program «Sepharad: Language, history

and culture in Toledo» includes two one-

week intensive courses, jointly organized by

the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM)

and the Instituto Cervantes. It is targeted at

students of Spanish, with at least B1

language proficiency level, who want to

improve their Spanish language skills while learning about a key period of the History of

Spain at the same time.

The courses will take place in Toledo, a city that was involved in and was one of the principal

actors of that historic period. The program has also obtained the support of the National

Sephardic Museum, the School of Translators of Toledo and the Sefarad Centre.

The students can take either one or both of the following courses:

“Toledo and Sepharad: key period of the Spanish history” (Course I).

“After Sepharad: five centuries building the Sephardic identity” (Course II).

The prices of both courses include an interesting range of cultural activities in the afternoon,

such as visits of key monuments or places in the city, related to the subjects covered in the

course. At the end of the course students will receive a course certificate issued by both

institutions (UCLM and Instituto Cervantes).

SUMMER INTENSIVE COURSE OF SPANISH LANGUAGE




Curso intensivo dirigido a personas que quieren mejorar su nivel de español en el mes de julio en un entorno

multicultural. El Curso Intensivo de verano JULIO ABIERTO, es una oportunidad única para realizar una

inmersión en la lengua y la cultura española, donde a la vez que se mejoran las

competencias idiomáticas, se vive con intensidad el mundo hispánico en un contexto de

hora de Toledo y es un enclave típicamente manchego, de los que

encontramos descritos en la obra de Cervantes, por ello es uno de los lugares

más destacados de la ruta del Quijote.

Intensive course aimed at people who want to improve their level of Spanish in the month of July in a

multicultural environment. The JULY Open Summer Intensive Course is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the

Spanish language and culture, where at the same time language skills are improved, the

Hispanic world is lived with intensity in a context of multicultural coexistence.

1. Our buildings One of the many privileges of studying Spanish language and culture at the University of

Castilla-La Mancha in Toledo is the chance of taking lessons in its buildings, which are

monumental sites and World Heritage.

• Convent of San Pedro Martir In 1407 this building became the seat of the Benedictine order and an important part of Spanish history. It held the first printing

press in Toledo, it was later taken by the French troops and it was a source of

inspiration for Bécquer’s legends. It was also poet Garcilaso de la Vega’s last home.

Impressive cloisters and quiet corners will become perfect learning premises.

• Convent of the Mother of God. You will get into this secluded convent through an outstanding mudejar-style door. This building holds the university canteen, the library

and the classrooms. It provides the necessary peace and quiet to study.

• Cardinal Lorenzana’s Palace. This 18th century neoclassical building was designed by Cardinal Lorenzana. He made it the seat of the University of Toledo.

• Faculty of Humanities. Juan de Padilla, one of the leaders of the Revolution of the Comuneros, was born and lived in this 15th century building.

SPANISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE




1. The University of Castilla-La Mancha The University of Castilla-La Mancha is a modern and competitive institution, with almost

30,000 students, 2,270 lecturers and researchers and 1,059 administrative and service

staff. We are passionate about discovering what lies behind the obvious, to deepen our

knowledge of science, to stir up culture and share it with you.

It is situated in the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha, with a surface area of

almost eight hundred thousand square kilometers.

Tradition and modernity, open spaces and infrastructure, proximity and comfort. These

are the hallmarks that define the UCLM campuses located in average sized cities, which

are university-orientated, accessible, peaceful and equipped with all services.

2. Toledo Toledo is a city with one of the richest histories in Spain. Muslims, Jews and Christians

lived together in harmony here for centuries, leaving their indelible mark on Toledo’s

streets, monuments and buildings. Its old town was declared a World Heritage Site in

1986.This center sits majestically above the Tagus River and now, represents one of the

most visited sites in all of Spain.

With 85,000 inhabitants, it is the capital of Castilla-La Mancha and, therefore, its

administrative center. It is a modern city and a first-class tourist destination because of

its excellent heritage.

UCLM has established its presence in Toledo at two different campuses: the Faculties

of Social Sciences and Humanities in the city’s historical quarter; and the Science-

Technology campus in the old Weapons Factory. With over 6,000 students, this complex

has been renovated with buildings equipped with non-polluting alternative energies.

3. Description of the program The entire academic program will be developed through both theoretical and practical

sessions, a methodology that enables teachers to learn deeper thanks to the

opportunities offered by a city like Toledo. This entire program of seminars is completed

with a Spanish Language course, (20 hours) which will be held in the afternoon.

The academic program is organized around the following 5 blocks of contents:

Block 1: History

Throughout these sessions, the students will have the chance to get the main keys about

the rich Spanish history, marking a journey from the first centuries to the recent history.

Toledo witnessed the main historical events that happened, therefore apart from the

general key about the Spanish history, some of these seminars relate these topics to the

history of the city.

Block 2: Art

The lessons, which complete this block, allow students to appreciate the vast artistic

heritage that Spain treasures. Toledo and Madrid are two cities with an important artistic

past and because of that reason, the seminars will be completed with practical lessons

that will make students be immersed in the contents.

Block 3: Literature

Spanish literary heritage is also important worldwide and Castilla-La Mancha is known

because in these lands Don Quixote lived most of his adventures. Having this significant

character as a reference, the course provides seminars in order to learn the most

relevant keys about the Spanish literature.

Block 4: Economy

This block provides the students the main keys to understand the economic situation of

the country and the relations which maintains with countries like the United States.

Moreover, there is a session dedicated to analyzing the phenomenon of tourism and

what it implies for the Spanish economy in this globalized world.

Block 5: Spanish culture

The last block of contents is dedicated to Spanish culture and it emphasizes the richness

of the cultural heritage. Gastronomy and celebrations in Spain are some of the topics

that students will learn throughout these lessons.

Block 6: Spanish classes

This block is dedicated to the Spanish language classes where the students will have

the chance to improve their level of this important language. the classes will be

segmented according to the level of Spanish of those who request the course.




Cultural trips

Apart from the theoretical program, we have designed two cultural trips at the weekend,

which will introduce the students into a historical atmosphere, visiting two of the most

important sites near Toledo: Madrid and Consuegra.

Madrid is the capital and the most populous city in the country and its history brings the

visitors a great opportunity to meet some of the most important characteristics of Spanish

lifestyle and appreciate its monuments and cultural heritage.

On the other hand, Consuegra is the best place to meet one of the most important figures

of the Spanish literature: Don Quixote. Visiting the windmills, a castle and the landscape

of La Mancha, the students will be immersed into the world of this important character.

Course + accommodation in twin room: 1700 euros. This price includes 60 hours of class, day trips, accommodation in twin room (3 weeks), classroom materials and the

use of the University facilities.

It is necessary that students take out medical insurance before traveling.

Attendance certificate

The University of Castilla-La Mancha provides their students an attendance certificate.

Requirement: The student should have a minimum attendance of 90% in class.

Spanish version. 1. La Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha La Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha es una institución moderna y competitiva, con

casi 30.000 estudiantes, 2.270 profesores e investigadores y 1.059 empleados

administrativos y de servicios. Nos apasiona descubrir qué hay detrás de lo obvio,

profundizar nuestro conocimiento de la ciencia, estimular la cultura y compartirla con

usted.

Está situado en la comunidad autónoma de Castilla-La Mancha, con una superficie de

casi ochocientos mil kilómetros cuadrados.

Tradición y modernidad, espacios abiertos e infraestructura, proximidad y comodidad.

Estas son las características que definen los campus de la UCLM ubicados en ciudades

de tamaño medio, que están orientadas a la universidad, son accesibles, pacíficas y

están equipadas con todos los servicios.

2. Toledo Toledo es una ciudad con una de las historias más ricas de España. Musulmanes, judíos

y cristianos vivieron en armonía aquí durante siglos, dejando su marca indeleble en las

calles, monumentos y edificios de Toledo. Su casco antiguo fue declarado Patrimonio

de la Humanidad en 1986. Este centro se encuentra rodeado sobre el río Tajo y ahora,

representa uno de los lugares más visitados de toda España.

Con 85.000 habitantes, es la capital de Castilla-La Mancha y, por lo tanto, su centro

administrativo. Es una ciudad moderna y un destino turístico de primera clase debido a

su excelente patrimonio.

La UCLM ha establecido su presencia en Toledo en dos campus diferentes: las

Facultades de Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades en el barrio histórico de la ciudad; y el

campus de Ciencia-Tecnología en la antigua Fábrica de Armas, un gran complejo

renovado que cuenta con más de 6.000 estudiantes.




Cómo llegar a Toledo: Hay diferentes maneras de llegar a Toledo desde Madrid.

Una vez que llegue al aeropuerto Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, puede tomar:

-Un tren (línea C1) que conecta la Terminal 4 con la estación de trenes - Madrid

-Metro línea 8 que conecta todas las terminales con diferentes lugares de la

3. Descripción del programa Todo el programa académico se desarrollará a través de sesiones teóricas y prácticas,

una metodología que permite a los docentes aprender más a fondo gracias a las

oportunidades que ofrece una ciudad como Toledo. Todo este programa de seminarios

se completa con un curso de español, (20 horas) que se llevará a cabo por la tarde.

El programa académico está organizado en torno a los siguientes 5 bloques de

contenidos:

Bloque 1: Historia

A través de las diferentes sesiones, los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de conseguir

las claves de la rica historia de España, haciendo un recorrido desde los primeros siglos

a la historia más reciente. Además, Toledo fue testigo de los principales eventos que

ocurrieron a lo largo del tiempo, por lo que algunos de los seminarios abordan estas

cuestiones en el contexto de la ciudad.

Bloque 2: Arte

estudiantes apreciar el vasto patrimonio artístico que España atesora. Toledo y Madrid

son dos ciudades con un importante pasado artístico y por ello, los seminarios se

completarán con clases prácticas que harán a los estudiantes adentrarse en los

contenidos.

Bloque 3: Literatura

El patrimonio literario español es también importante en todo el mundo y Castilla-La

Mancha es conocida por ser la tierra donde Don Quijote vivió la mayor parte de sus

aventuras. Teniendo esto como referente, el curso proporciona seminarios con el fin de

aprender las clases más relevantes sobre la literatura española.

Bloque 4: Economía

Este bloque proporciona al estudiante las claves principales para entender la situación

económica del país y las relaciones que mantiene con países como Estados Unidos.

Además, hay una sesión dedicada a analizar el fenómeno del turismo y su implicación

en la economía española dentro de este mundo globalizado.

Bloque 5: Cultura española

El último bloque de contenidos está dedicado a la cultura española y enfatiza la riqueza

de su patrimonio cultural. La gastronomía o las celebraciones en España son algunos

de los temas que los estudiantes aprenderán en estas clases.

Bloque 6: Clases de español

Este bloque está dedicado a las clases de lengua, donde los estudiantes tendrán la

oportunidad de mejorar su nivel en este idioma tan importante.

Viajes culturales

Además del programa teórico, hemos diseñado dos viajes culturales durante el fin de

semana, que presentarán a los estudiantes en un ambiente histórico, visitando dos de

los sitios más importantes cerca de Toledo: Madrid y Consuegra.

Madrid es la capital y la ciudad más poblada del país y su historia ofrece a los visitantes

la oportunidad de conocer algunas de las características más importantes del estilo de

vida español y apreciar sus monumentos y su patrimonio cultural.




Por otro lado, Consuegra es el mejor lugar para conocer a una de las figuras más

importantes de la literatura española: Don Quijote. Al visitar los molinos de viento, un

castillo y el paisaje de La Mancha, los estudiantes se sumergirán en el mundo de este

personaje tan importante.

- Visita guiada por Toledo: Ciudad de las Tres Culturas

- Visita guiada: El Gótico en España. La Catedral de Toledo.

- Visita guiada. Toledo, Ciudad de Leyendas.

- Visita a una bodega.

- Visita a la Antigua Fábrica Real de Armas.

5. Información útil Matrícula

Curso + alojamiento en habitación doble: 1700 euros. Este precio incluye 60 horas de clase, excursiones de un día, alojamiento en habitación doble (3 semanas),

materiales de clase y el uso de las instalaciones de la Universidad.

Seguro médico

Se exige que los estudiantes contraten un seguro médico antes de viajar.

Certificado de asistencia

La Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha proporciona a sus alumnos un certificado de

asistencia. Requisito: el estudiante debe tener una asistencia mínima del 90% en clase.
