o riginaria de Chicago Illinois, pero criada por padres hispanos, con tan solo 10 añitos Itzel ha sido una niña destacada en nuestra entidad, a muy corta edad se vino a

vivir a Lafayette y es la hermana mayor de su familia, aunque ella no nació en tierras hispanas dice estar feliz y orgullosa de tener raíces latinas.

Esta pequeña guerrera, nos comento su fascinación por el deporte, específicamente el Soccer, desde que tenia 5 años se ha dedicado a este ejercicio, actual-mente es una de las integrantes del equipo de niñas (Wild Cats). Y han sido campeones de la U-10 anteriormente, de igual forma han recibido medallas por sus participaciones.

Para Itzel, el estar con su famil-ia es lo mas importante, nos comento que le encanta com-partir y jugar futbol con ellos y sus amigos, se considera inteligente, extrovertida y muy alegre. Pero no solo le gusta hacer deportes entre otras de sus recrea-ciones esta el hacer man-ualidades, y también le gusta

cantar, actualmente integra el grupo de coro de su iglesia.

Sin duda alguna, cuando uno es joven muchas son las ilusiones y sueños que vamos desarrollando y para ella, el mayor sueño cuando sea grande es poder lograr ser una

doctora, pero sin dejar a un lado el deporte y la música. Le damos a Itzel las felicitaciones por su destacada participación en el equipo de football, y por poner en alto las raíces hispanas en nuestra comunidad.

go Illinois, but raised by His-panic parents, only 10 years old Itzel has been a promi-nent child in our state, at an early age came to live in Lafayette and is the older sister of her family, but she was not born in Hispanic land although she claims to be happy and proud to have Latin roots.

This little warrior, told us her fascination with sports, specifically Soccer and since she was five years old has been devoted to this exercise, currently being a member of the Wild Cats. They have been champions of the U-10 earlier, similarly received medals for their participation.For Itzel, being with her family is what is most important, told us that she loves to share and play soccer with them and her friends, she considers herself intelligent, outgoing and very sociable. But she not only likes to do sports she has other hobbies such as crafts, and is part of her church choir.

w ithout a doubt, when one is young there are many dreams and visions that we’re developing and for her, the greatest dream is to be a doctor when she grows

up, but without setting aside the sports and the music.

We give to Itzel our congratulations for her outstanding participation in the soccer team, and for representing our Hispanic cultural roots in our community so well!

Las profundas divisiones que se hicieron evidentes en la campaña electoral en torno al papel del Gobierno y a las maneras de reducir el déficit dominarán sin duda la escena política en el 2013 incluso

si se evita caer en el “abismo fiscal” que se avecina.

Obama ganó ampliamente las elecciones presidenciales, pero el Congreso continúa dividido. Los demócratas controlan el Senado y los republicanos la Cámara de Representantes.

EL PRESIDENTE OBAMA QUIERE CONTRAER MAS DEUDAS:El problema fundamental es clarísimo, los egresos son mayores que los ingresos.

contract debt. (Ceiling is $16.400 millions ) If an agreement is not reached, the Govern-ment cannot fulfill its commitments. With the conclusion of the Fiscal Cliff debate we know now that there is no reduction or solution to be implemented yet.

Según la firma consultora Nielsen, los consumidores hispanos se han convertido en una pieza angular de la economía de Estados Unidos, que en el futuro dependerá de los latinos debido a los cambios demográficos,

sociales y culturales que se espera acompañen su continuo crecimiento. Los latinos ya no son un segmento secundario de la economía, sino un “actor prominente en todos los aspectos de la vida estadounidense”, indicó el reporte.

Así, la población latina se ha convertido en un segmento clave para empresarios y políticos “que puede ser la diferencia entre ganar o perder la batalla” . El poder de compra de los consumidores hispanos fue de un billón de dólares en el 2010, y se espera que alcance 1.5 billón de dólares de dólares en el 2015, según infor-mación de Nielsen.Tras asegurar que los hispanos son “la pieza angular del futuro crecimiento”, recomienda a los empresarios convertirlos en una prioridad en su estrategia de negocios.

“Latinos are no a secondary segment of the economy anymore but a prominent actor in all the aspects of the American life”, stated the report.

So the Latino population has become a segment for business owners and politi-cians that “ can make the difference in winning or loosing the battle”. The power to buy from the Hispanic consumers was in 2010 of 1 billion dollars and it is expected to grow to 1.5 billion in 2015, according to the Nielsen information.

After confirming that the Hispanic are a key piece for growth and recommends to make them a priority in their business strategy.

The Acadiana region is known to be a warm, helping and kind community. Values demonstrated by Dr. Gabriela Pichardo-Lafontaine, who received a call late

afternoon of December 28th, to help an elder man whose health had worsened. In the midst of a very bad weather, she decided to go the apartment where the patient was and treat him. After making sure he would be ok, the doctor called to see how the patient was. That is why Dr. Gabriela Pichar-do-Lafontaine is an example to us and is part of our LATIN PRIDE!

La región de Acadiana se caracter-iza por ser una comunidad hospi-talaria, servicial, y ayudadores. Va-

lores demostrados por la Dra. Gabriela Pichardo-Lafontaine, quien recibió una llamada la tarde del viernes 28/Diciem-bre, para atender a un señor de tercera edad cuya salud había empeorado.

En medio de una gran lluvia y mal clima, la doctora decidió ir hasta el apartamento donde estaba el enfermo y atenderlo. Después de asegurarse que el paciente estaría bien, la doc-tora aun llamo para ver como seguía su paciente. Por eso la Dra. Gabriela Pichardo-Lafontaine es un ejemplo y es nuestro

La chilena cantautora y compositoraCLADIAACUÑA

posee una de las voces mas hermosas e intensas en el jazz y la música creativa.

Aunque canta primordialmente en Español, su música cruza las barreras del lenguaje para comunicar con poder y profundo sentimiento.

Acuña nació en Santiago de Chile en Julio 31 de 1971. Cuando era muy joven, su familia se mudo al pueblo minero de Rancagua y luego a Concepción, un lugar de una comunidad rica en las artes. Creció con influencias de Violeta Parra y Michael Jackson en la radio, y es entonces cuando decidió convertirse en vocalista. “ Cuando finalmente escuche a gente como Erroll Garner y Thelonious Monk, fui atraída a la libertad de esta música sin saber que lo que tocaban era Jazz.”

En 1991 se mudo a Santiago donde estuvo activa grabando jingles para la radio y hacienda voces para dibujos animados. Sus propios conceptos musicales comenzaron a desarrollarse, alimentados por una pareja mayor que ella conoció y con quienes compartió que verdader-amente quería ser una cantante de jazz. Después de ver una película sobre músicos y los clubes de Nueva York, y conocer músicos que visit-aban Chile, y recibido motivación, encontró la confianza necesaria para visitar los Estados Unidos. “Yo era muy insegura porque no había asisti-do a una escuela de música y en ese tiempo no hablaba Ingles, pero tenia suficiente confianza y un poco de locura para seguir mi pasión..”Acuña aprendió “a la antigua” en las sesiones de improvisación y clubes. “ Me senti mas en casa en Nueva York que en Chile”.

Fue en la original Small’s en Grenwich Village, una cama caliente para talento joven que Acuña dio sus mas grandes pasos, juntán-dose y trabajando con artistas tales como Jeff Ballard, Avishai

Cohen, Frank Hewitt, Guillermo Klein, Jimmie Lovelace, Brad Mehldau, Harry Whittaker y el hombre que se convirtió en su director musical y mas cercano colaborador: el pianista Jason Lindner.

Historial de Grabaciones: Verve Records (1999): Dos álbumes, Wind from the South and Rhythm of Life. MAXJAZZ (2004), con el Álbum Luna y Marsalis Music Label (2009) con, En Este Momento. Acuña tam-bién ha grabado y hecho giras con muchos artistas incluyendo a George Benson, Joey Calderazzo, Billy Childs, Roy Hargrove, Tom Harrell, Chris-tian McBride, Danilo Perez y Pablo Ziegler.

Con el tiempo ella ha ido cantando mas de su material en su lengua madre. “ Siempre me prometí a mi mis-ma que honoraria mis raíces” dijo.

El nombramiento de Acuña como representante de la agencia World Vision Chile, una agencia enfocada en ayudar a los niños demuestra que sus compromisos van mas allá de la música.

Chilean singer/songwriter/arranger CLADIA ACUÑA possesses one of the most beautiful and compelling voices in jazz and creative music. While singing primarily in Spanish, her

music crosses language barriers to communicate with power and deep feeling.

Acuña was born in Santiago, Chile on July 31, 1971. When she was quite young, her family moved first to the mining town of Rancagua and then to Concepcion, the site of a rich arts community. She grew up lis-tening to Violeta Parra and Michael Jackson on the radio,and it was then that she decided to become a singer. When I finally heard people like Erroll Garner and Thelonious Monk, I was drawn to the music’s freedom without knowing that what they played was called jazz.”

In 1991, Acuña moved to Santiago, where she quickly became active recording jingles and doing voices for cartoons. Her own musical concepts also began to develop, nurtured by an older profes-sional couple she met who told her that she was really a jazz singer. After seeing a film about the musicians and clubs in New York, and meeting touring musicians who visited Chile and provided encourage-ment, she found the necessary confidence to visit the United States. “I was insecure, because I had not attended music school and did not speak English at the time; but I had enough confidence, plus a little bit of craziness, to follow my passion...’”Acuña learned “the old fashion way” at the city’s jam sessions and clubs. “I felt more at home in New York than I ever felt in Chile,” she explains.

It was at the original Small’s in Greenwich Village, a hotbed of young talent, that Acuña made the greatest strides, meeting and working with such artists as Jeff Ballard, Avishai Cohen, Frank Hewitt, Guiller-

mo Klein, Jimmie Lovelace, Brad Mehldau, Harry Whittaker and the man who became her musical director and closest collaborator, pianist Jason Lindner.

Album Track: Verve Records (1999): Two albums, Wind from the South and Rhythm of Life. MAXJAZZ (2004) , with the Album Luna and Marsa-lis Music label (2009) with, En Este Momento. En el 2013, enfócate para alcanzar tus sueños:

1.-Toma algo de tiempo para aclarar que resultados deseas conseguir: La causa más frecuente de tener esa sensación de estar “desbordado” siempre la encontraremos en una falta

de objetivos claros. Decide hacia adonde quieres ir, y empieza a tomar conciencia.

2.-Empieza a desechar todo lo que no te aporta nada positi-vo: Objetos que no necesitas pero mantienen tus espacios saturados, personas que cada vez que te relacionas con

ellas drenan tu energía, actividades que simplemente te hacen perder el tiempo, etc.

3.-Establece la meta de esclarecer todo lo que hagas. Busca constantemente formas más sencillas y efectivas de realizar tus actividades tanto personales como profesionales.

4.-Planifica todos y cada uno de tus días, convirtiéndote de ese modo en el “piloto” de tu vida. Establece periodos concretos de tu tiempo para actividades que se acercan a

tus metas y estarás evitando “distracciones”.

5.-Vuélvete mucho más selectivo. Elige exactamente que programas de televisión quieres ver, que lecturas vas a em-prender, en que tipo de proyectos te vas a involucrar.

6.-Busca tiempo para dedicártelo a ti mismo. Tener tiempo para reflexionar y pensar en las cosas realmente impor-tantes de nuestra vida es fun-

damental. Te permitirá mantener una mayor claridad mental y enfoque.

Comienza este nuevo año tomando acción sobre cada una de estas ideas que te

damos y pon también en prácti-ca aquellas que se te ocurran que vayan en función de hacer efectivos tus sueños y metas.

1.-Take time to clarify what results you want to achieve: The most common cause of having that feeling of being “over-whelmed” we will always find it in a lack of clear goals. Decide

where you want to go in your life, and start to become aware.

2.-Begin to discard all that does not contribute to anything positive. Objects that you do not need but keep your spaces saturated, people that whenever you interact with

them drain your energy, activities that just make you waste time, etc..

3.-Establish the goal of clarifying everything you do. Con-stantly seeking simple and effective ways to make your personal and professional activities.

4.-Plan each and every one of your days, becoming thereby the “pilot” of your life. Establish specific periods of your time to activities related to your goals therefore avoiding

“distractions”.

5.-Become more selective. Choose exactly what TV you want to watch, what you’re going o read and type of projects you will engage.

6.-Find time to devote to your-self. Take time to reflect and think about the really important

things in our lives is essential. We will maintain mental clarity and focus.

Start the new year by taking action on each of these ideas that we give and also put into

practice those that you can think of to be effective in terms of making your dreams and goals come true.

1. Establezca un presupuesto mensual. Determine cuáles son sus gastos fijos y cuánto dinero le sobra para entretenimiento y misceláneos. Una manera de asegurarse

que sus gastos de entretenimiento no excederán sus re-sponsabilidades fijas es estableciendo una cantidad de dinero específica para este fin. Cuando se agote ese dinero ya no podrá seguir gastando en entretenimiento. Esto le ayudará ser innovador al momento de pensar cómo divertirse sin gastar mucho dinero.

2. Coloque sus estados de cuenta en un sólo lugar. Al tener las facturas en el mismo lugar evitará que se mezcle con algún otro documento. Del mismo

modo, recordará pagar a tiempo todos los meses. Es suma-mente importante que sólo mantenga las cuentas por pagar en este lugar.

3. Prepare una lista de cotejo con las cuentas que usted recibe mes tras mes. Una lista que incluya todos sus gastos mensuales le ayudará a saber

Poliéster, Agua, entre otros.Decidir qué tipo de almohada utilizar depende

de cómo usted duerme, o al menos en la posición que usted pasa la mayor parte del tiempo durante el sueño. También de-pende de lo que es más cómodo y “natural” para usted.

¿Usted dUerme de lado?En este caso una almohada más gruesa es una mejor opción para mantener la alineación natural del cuello (cervical).

¿Usted dUerme boca abajo?En este caso, una almohada delgada o dormir sin almohadas son sus mejores opciones.¿Usted dUerme boca arriba?En este caso una almohada más delgada es la mejor opción. Una almohada más gruesa empuja la cabeza hacia adelante (arriba) y mueve el cuello fuera de la alineación natural, lo cual no es bueno para usted.

L o más importante es mantener la alineación natural del cuel-lo. Esto varía de acuerdo a la posición que usted duerme. Si la curvatura natural del cuello es alterada extremadamente

por una almohada no adecuada entonces las articulaciones vertebrales del cuello van a estar en estrés. Esto provoca que los músculos se contraigan excesivamente causando espasmos musculares y dolores en el área. Otro factor a considerar es la firmeza de su colchón. Si usted tiene un colchón (“mattress”) duro o firme su almohada puede ser más gruesa (gorda). Un Nuevo año comienza y con el nuevas esperanzas y expectativas en nuestra vida personal y familiar.

Enero es el mes de las reflexiones y de los nuevos planes. Es el mes en el que todos debemos tomar-nos un tiempo para reflexionar sobre todo lo ocurrido en el año anterior, Lo positivo y lo negativo. Es el tiempo de analizar todo lo que hicimos y lo que debimos y no pudi-mos hacer.

Esta reflexión es en extremo importante para todos, pues nos permite en primer lugar reconocer nuestro trabajo, es-fuerzo y sacrifico.

En segundo lugar nos permite darnos cuenta de los errores cometidos, que no nos permitieron cumplir determinadas tar-eas o metas planteadas.

En nuestro tiempo de reflexión, tam-bién debemos analizar todos los eventos socio-políticos ocurridos durante este año que acaba de concluir y que tuvieron o ten-drán un impacto positivo o negativo sobre nuestros planes. Este análisis debe ser lo más crítico y autocritico posible ya que sobre sus conclusiones, comenzaremos a EDIFICAR nuestros planes para este nuevo año que recién comienza

Ahora cada meta u objetivo trazado, exigirá de usted determinado sacrificio; y Usted debe estar dispuesto a cumplirlo. El secreto para lograrlo esta en trácese planes reales, planes y metas que usted sea capaz de cumplir.

Si en ENERO usted no es capaz de hacer sus reflexiones y planes, probablemente para usted, este año 2013 será un año más en su vida. Para los que lo realmente hagan esta

reflexión y análisis; convencido estoy seguro que será una año de
