The Cotopaxi National Park renews its facilities and services for visitors who come to this place -less than 1.5 hours from Quito- to enjoy the magic of the Ecuadorian Andes.

El Tren Crucero inicia su operación en la ruta Quito – Guayaquil recorriendo más de 450 Km. a través de la Avenida de los Volcanes, la Nariz del Diablo y Bosque Nublado hasta llegar al nivel del mar.

The “Tren Crucero” starts its operation in the route Quito - Guayaquil covering a track over 450 km. through the Avenue of the volcanoes, the Devil’s nose and the cloud forest to reach the sea level.

Los días de verano en la ciudad de Quito también significan vacaciones y tiempo libre para realizar varias actividades, mismas que también pueden ser disfrutadas por quienes están en la ciudad de visita independientemente de la época del año en la que vengan.

En Quito y debido a sus estatus de Primera ciudad Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad se habla siempre de Cultura, Arte y temas afines… sin embargo el entorno natural en el que se encuentra, las facilidades de las que dispone y la increíble cantidad de lugares en sus alrededores hacen que el Turismo de Aventura y la práctica de deportes extremos sean una excelente opción para disfrutar de nuestra ciudad desde otra perspectiva.

La ciudad tiene y está rodeada de muchos cerros y montañas lo que obviamente la convierte en un lugar ideal para la práctica de Bicicleta de Montaña. Sin alejarse prácticamente del centro financiero de Quito se encuentra el Parque Metropolitano Guanguiltagua (Pág. 40) sitio que cuenta con varias rutas y circuitos para la práctica de éste deporte. Si se desea una aventura más extrema, las cabinas del Teleferiqo de Quito cuentan con las facilidades para subir hasta los 4.100 metros de altura (13.450 Ft.) con la bicicleta de montaña y desde ahí hacer el famoso descenso o downhill del Pichincha.

Summer days in the city of Quito also mean holidays and free time to practice several activities, which can also be enjoyed by those who are just visiting the city regardless of the time of the year.

In Quito, due to its status of “First World Heritage Site” people always talk about culture, art and those related topics... However the natural environment in which the city lays, the facilities on which it counts and the incredible amount of attractions in the surrounding area make of the Adventure tourism and the extreme sports excellent options to enjoy our city from a different perspective.

The city has -and is surrounded by- many hills and mountains which

obviously make of it an ideal place for Mountain Biking. Without practically leaving the financial center of Quito you will reach the Metropolitan Park Guangüiltagua (p. 40) site that features several routes and circuits for the practice of this sport. If you prefer a more extreme adventure, the Telefériqo cabins in Quito have facilities to carry your bike with you up to 4,100 meters (13.450 Ft.) and from there you may start the famous Pichincha downhill.

On the other hand, Inline Skating, Skateboard and BMX are among the most practiced urban extreme sports in Quito therefore there are adequate sites for their practice that gathers these extreme sports lovers; among the most popular sites are

En los días de lluvia, el patinaje en hielo es una excelente opción para la práctica de deportes extremos bajo techo, así como también lo es la escalada deportiva para la que además del Rocódromo de Quito complejo en exteriores reservado mayormente para su práctica profesional existen las excelentes instalaciones de Vértigo Escalada (Pág. 48), complejo cubierto de 400 mts2 que cuenta con

la Tabla o Skateboard y el BMX para los que existen sitios adecuados y en donde se concentran los amantes a estos deportes extremos. Entre los sitios más populares tenemos la clásica pista en el extremo Sur-oriente del Parque La Carolina (Pág. 40) y las nuevas facilidades dentro del Parque Bicentenario (Pág. 40).

Otra modalidad de patinaje en Quito es sobre Hielo; si, en la Mitad del Mundo cerca a la latitud 0° es posible patinar en hielo durante los 365 días del año gracias a las instalaciones y facilidades que se encuentran en la ya clásica pista del Palacio del Hielo (Pág. 49) en pleno corazón financiero de Quito al interior del Centro Comercial Iñaquito (CCI) o también en el extremo sur de la ciudad en el Polo Sur, al interior del Quicentro Sur.

Another form of skating in Quito is on ice; yes, it is possible to go Ice Skating in the middle of the world close to Latitude 0° during the 365 days of the year thanks to the facilities of the must do Ice ring of the Ice Palace (p. 49) at the heart of Quito’s financial district inside CCI (Iñaquito Shopping Center) or also at the southern end of the city at the South Pole, inside the Quicentro South.

In the rainy days, ice skating is an excellent choice for extreme indoor sports, as well as rock climbing, for which Quito offers the “Rocódromo”, an outdoor climbing complex reserved mostly for its

professional practice; and, the great facilities of “Vertigo Escalada” (p. 48), a covered complex of 400 m2 featuring a more than 240m2 climbable wall, ropes areas, Boulder and Slack line among other services.

Just 10 - 15 minutes away from Quito lays Nayon Xtreme Valley (p. 48) an extreme adventure park offering a Canopy that spans 450

meters over a canyon as well as Rappelling and Paintball facilities among other activities.

For those who want to venture into Hiking, Mountaineering and Camping, the options of places to which you can go and return on the same day from Quito are innumerable; and, if your decision is to overnight outside enjoying the Andes and its nature the options also are various.

You can leave from Quito with a spring - summer kind of weather and after two hours be enjoying the winter snow at more than 4,800 m. / 15.748 ft of altitude at the refuge of the Cotopaxi Snow-capped volcano (5,897 m. / 19.347 ft.) surrounded by other important volcanoes as the Rumiñahui (4.721 m. / 15.489 ft.),

un Muro de más de 240 m2 escalables, zonas de cuerdas, Boulder y Slack line entre otras facilidades.

A pocos 10 – 15 minutos de Quito se encuentra Nayon Xtreme Valley (Pág. 48) parque de Aventura extrema que entre sus principales actividades ofrece un Canopy que cruza un cañón de 450 mts además de Rapel y Paintball entre otros.

Para quienes quieren aventurarse en caminatas, andinismo & acampada las opciones de lugares a los cuales se puede llegar y regresar en el mismo día desde Quito son innumerables; y, si la decisión es la de pasar la noche fuera disfrutando de los Andes y de su naturaleza las opciones igualmente son varias.

Se puede salir desde Quito con un clima de primavera – verano para luego de dos horas estar disfrutando de la nieve invernal a más de 4.800 mts / 15.748 Ft. de altura en el

Muros, túneles, puentes y más espacios públicos de Quito son los lienzos de nueve creaciones de reconocidos pintores ecuatorianos en la Galería de Arte Urbano (GAU). Participa en esta ruta y admira coloridas mariposas, colibríes y paisajes que plasman mensajes de protección al medio ambiente, a la cultura y al patrimonio.

Lenguajes, técnicas y estilos se fusionaron en la creación de esta galería de arte a cielo abierto en la que participaron más de 100 artistas simultáneamente. La ruta se enriquece con la exposición de réplicas de consagrados y fallecidos autores, pasando por pintores modernos y contemporáneos.

Con 3.800m2 de intervención, Quito se integra al circuito de las principales capitales del arte urbano en el mundo como París, Londres, Berlín, Filadelfia, San Francisco, Valparaíso, San Miguel en Chile, Sao Paulo o Barcelona.

Quito Turismo te invita a conocer las obras que integran la ruta y los atractivos turísticos cercanos a cada uno de los siguientes nueve puntos:

Walls, tunnels, bridges and other public spaces of Quito have become the canvases for nine creations of renowned Ecuadorian painters for the Gallery of Urban Art (GAU). Go along this route and admire colorful butterflies, hummingbirds, and landscapes that embody messages for environment, culture and heritage protection.

Languages, techniques and styles were merged into the creation of this air open Art Gallery for which more than 100 artists participated at the same time. The route is enriched with exhibition of replicas of consecrated and deceased authors, through modern and contemporary painters.

With 3,800 m2 of intervention, Quito is integrated into the circuit of the main capitals of urban art in the world like Paris, London, Berlin, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Valparaíso, San Miguel in Chile, São Paulo or Barcelona.

Quito tourism invites you to admire the works that make up the route and the tourist attractions near each of the following nine points:

This small Square was originally constructed in the years of foundation of the city (1.534), but was covered at the 20th century with the construction of a market and its big metallic structure. El Panecillo

Esta elevación natural fue bautizada así por su parecido con un pequeño pan. Se erige en medio de la ciudad como un mirador natural. La colina de El Panecillo, con 3.000 m. de altitud sobre el nivel del mar, marca la división entre el sur y el centro de la ciudad. En 1976, el artista español Agustín de la Herrán Matorras realizó en aluminio el monumento a La Virgen que se encuentra en la cúspide del cerro.

This natural hill was baptized due to its similarity with a small piece of bread (Panecillo). Located in the middle of the city this place stands as a natural viewpoint. The “Panecillo” hill, with 3,000 mts. (9,842 ft.) above the sea level, marks the division between the south and the old town. In 1976, the Spanish artist Agustín de la Herrán Matorras built in aluminum, the monument to the Virgin at the top of this hill.

Funciona en las faldas del volcán Ruco Pichincha. La estación de salida del telefériqo se ubica a 2.950 m. y la de llegada a 4.100 m. desde donde se tiene una espectacular vista de la ciudad y de las montañas y volcanes que la circundan como el Antisana, el Cotopaxi y el Cayambe.

With an extension of 557 hectares this park - forest, is the main lung of the city. This park lies at an altitude of 2,890 m. (9,481 Ft.) above the sea level. Con 67 Ha de terreno, este es uno de los “parques urbanos” -en medio de la ciudad-, más grandes de Quito y del país. With 67 hectares this park -in the middle of the city- is one of the largest “urban parks” of Quito and in the country. Inaugurado en 1886; este teatro de estilo neoclásico fue el primer teatro emblemático de Quito. Bosque Nublado de Mindo

Mercado de Otavalo

Volcán & Parque Nacional Cotopaxi

Parque Nacional, situado en el límite de las provincias de Pichincha y de Cotopaxi; este último también es el nombre del volcán que se encuentra en este sitio. Esta elevación alcanza los 5.897 m, siendo el segundo volcán más alto del país y uno de los volcanes activos más altos del mundo. Para turistas extranjeros se requiere de guía local para el ingreso al Parque.National Park, located in the border of the Pichincha and Cotopaxi provinces; Cotopaxi is also the name of the volcano inside this park. This snow-capped mountain with an altitude of 5,897 ms (19,350 Ft.), is the second highest volcano of the country and one of highest active volcanoes of the world. Reserva Ecológica Antisana

Ubicada a 45 minutos desde Quito esta reserva natural cuenta entre sus principales atractivos con la Laguna de la Mica en donde existen varios senderos naturales para realizar caminatas; se distingue el Volcán nevado Antisana que con 5,750 m. de altura da el nombre a esta reserva que es además hogar de especies importantes como el Cóndor Andino y el Curiquingue.

Located 45 minutes from Quito this natural reserve has among its main attractions the “Mica” lagoon where there are several nature trails for hiking; the spectacular snow-capped volcano “Antisana” with 5,750 m height gives the name to this reserve which is also home to important species such as the Andean Condor and the Curiquingue.

Laguna de Cuicocha

Esta laguna que se encuentra a 120 km. al norte de Quito a una altitud de 3,068 m.s.n.m está formada al interior de un cráter volcánico al pie del Volcán Cotacachi y cuenta con dos pequeños islotes en su interior que pueden ser visitados en un recorrido en canoa. Se puede realizar una larga caminata de 4 - 6 horas alrededor del cráter.

This lagoon, located 120 km. North of Quito at an altitude of 3,068 m.a.s.l. is formed inside a volcanic crater at the foot of the Cotacachi volcano. It has two small islets in its interior that can be visited on a tour by canoe. You can also walk around the crater in an 4 - 6 hours hike.

Aguas Termales de Papallacta

La laguna de Papallacta se encuentra en un páramo con clima muy frío y una hermosa vista de paisajes naturales, entre los volcanes Cayambe y Antisana. Quito has three different BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) systems driving over the main avenues in north – south direction:

Trolebus: Estación Norte – Terminal Terrestre Quitumbe, green line in the getting around map of Quito

All three systems have feeder buses routes to go to different sectors of the city.

Access to Quito’s International Airport:

Bus Stations Río Coca & Quitumbe, semi-express Bus service depart every 10-15 minutes to the airport of Quito between 04:45 and 24:00.

Aeroservicios. Direct express Bus service to/from the airport every 30 minutes 24 hours a day. Depart from the old air terminal at the Av. Amazonas & Av. de La Prensa.
