¡Feliz mayo!Es difícil creer que ya estamos en la recta final del año escolar 2012-16. Siempre me asombra el crecimiento y el progreso de nuestros estudiantes. ¡Será un placer terminar el año de manera positiva! Tenemos muchos even-tos divertidos planificados,incluyendo excursiones, el Día de Juegos el 25 de mayo, la ceremonia de reconocimiento de 5º grado y su picnic, el carnaval el viernes, 5 de junio y mucho más.

Al alargarse los días, es importante que ayuden a sus hijos a acostarse a dormir a una hora apropiada, para que así estén descansados para la escuela. Hemos notado un aumento en las tardanzas de los estudiantes y muchos de ellos se ven cansados al llegar. También les pedimos que con-tinúen motivando a sus hijos a completar sus tareas todas las noches y leer. Estamos emocionados por terminar nuestro año con el Maratón de Lectura, del 9 de mayo al 20 de mayo. Reto a cada estudiante a leer por lo menos por 30 minutos todos los días durante esos diez días. Aún no hemos decidido cómo celebraremos si los estudiantes cumplen la meta, pero habrá una caja de sugerencias en la oficina y veremos todas las ideas creativas de los estu-diantes. En el pasado, me han pedido que me pinte el cabello de azul, he besado sapos y un cerdito. Siempre es un evento divertido en Huegel.

Pensando el año próximo, ya estamos en la primera etapa de colocación de estudiantes. Al crear nuestras clases, tomamos en consideración las destrezas académicas e interpersonales de cada estudiantes, para asegurar que cada estudiante pueda compartir con otros a su nivel. El próximo año tendremos 26 salones de clase, incluyendo 4K y un maestro(a) adicional. También ven-drá un(a) maestro(a) de educación especial. Marquen sus calendario para el día de inscripciones, el jueves, 18 de agosto. Aún no hemos seleccionado la fecha para nuestro Picnic de Regreso a la Escuela, pero incluiremos esa información en el sobre con el reporte de calificaciones al final de curso.

HUEGEL READINGLos estudiantes en kinder a 5to grado tiene un bloque de lectoescritura que se recomienda sea de 120 minutos de instrucción diaria. Durante este tiempo los niños trabajan en lectura, redacción, conversación, audición y lenguaje, dentro de un modelo de taller, en el cual cada destreza o concepto se presenta y se practica hasta que los niños puedan hac-erlo independientemente.

Durante la instrucción en lectura, los niños aprenden qué significa ser un lec-tor - cómo los lectores aplican sus destre-zas y estrategias para entender lo que están leyendo. Los niños participan de experiencias de lectura compartida de textos de nivel del grado, en las cuales el maestro y el niño leen el texto juntos. Los maestros también trabajan con grupos pequeños de niños con nivel de lectura similares.Estos grupos son flexibles y cam-bian como resultado de cómo los niños se están desempeñando. Durante lectura independiente, los niños autoseleccionan y practican textos, solos o con un com-pañero, para así aplicar tanto destrezas y conceptos conocidos como en desar-rollo. Los niños tienen oportunidad de leer por placer, resolver problemas independi-entemente y mejorar la fluidez en lectura. Usamos Mondo Bookshop como nuestro recurso principal.

La familia es un socio clave para ayudar a los estudiantes a alcanzar las expectativas del nivel de su grado. ¿Cuál es la mejor forma de ayudar a su estudiante? ¡Leer! Algunas cosas a tener en cuenta cuando lean con su hijo/a.

• Reading takes practice. Daily practice is an important part of improving any-thing, especially reading. Make time every day in your routine for reading with your child.

• Reading to your child is still important. Listening to an adult read increases flu-ency, comprehension skills, vocabulary, background knowledge, sense of story, awareness of genre and text structure.

• Talking about books also improves read-ing. Having conversations about books increases comprehension and engage-ment with reading. Ask your child to think about, wonder and question what they read and see in books. Did they enjoy the book? What was their favor-ite part? What was the author trying to teach them?

• Readers are more engaged with books they choose. Reading research is very clear that children read more, un-derstand more and are more likely to continue reading when they have the opportunity to choose what they read. Help your child find books from school, the library and even our Huegel Library Portal that are interesting to your child. Remember that through our Huegel Library Portal your child can check out e-books and audiobooks from the Madi-son Public Library!

Working together, Huegel teachers and families can provide a clear way for stu-dents to become college, career and community ready! Los estudiantes han estado utilizando la tecnología entre los diferentes grados para compartir lo que han aprendido con otros. Desde los estudiantes de prim-er grado utilizando “Explain Everything” para crear sus libros de “Cómo hacer…”, hats los estudiantes de quinto grado cre-ando códigos de QR en sus proyectos so-bre los estados, enlazándolos a un vídeo que enseña sobre cada estado.

Book ExchangeDear Huegel families,

Our amazing 5th grade Huegel Heroes club is dedicated to improving our school community. Our first project for the semester was to create a book exchange, where students and families can donate gently used children’s books and also take home books! We did a book drive, which has filled one shelf already. We are looking for more books to add to the collection! Books can be donated by dropping them off in the main office for Ms. Wacker, or by simply placing them on the shelf! Take a look when you pass by to see if there is a book you’d like to take home with you! The book is right outside the main office!

Are you moving, or have you moved this year?

If you have moved or plan on moving outside of your school’s attendance area between September 1, 2015, and August 31, 2016, you may need to fill out an internal transfer application in order for your child to continue to attend the same school or feeder school for the upcoming school year. To find your new attendance area, use the Find Your School tool online or contact your child’s school.

The Internal Transfer window opens May 2 and closes at 4pm on May 20. We encourage you to apply during this first round to receive preference even if you are not planning to move until the summer. Everyone that applies during the first round will find out if they were approved or wait listed by July 1. All other applications will be finalized by August 25.

Are you or someone you know, looking for part-time work? As a Crossing Guard, you will be

providing a great service to your community as well as earning $15.70 per hour. The City of Madison

is looking for interested, responsible individuals who enjoy working outdoors to provide safety for

our school children for the 2016-2017 school year. Shifts are 1 - 1 1⁄4 hours and between the hours

of 7:00-8:45 a.m. and 2:30-4:00 p.m. with an earlier shift Monday afternoons. Work is scheduled

Monday through Friday (no weekends, evening or holidays). Some flexibility is required due to early

release dates. This is a great job for the retiree, grandparent, or stay-at-home parent re-entering the

job market.
