    ThegynostemiumofPleurothallisfloripectenandP.anthocteniumsveryunlikewhatobtainsinP.usqfolia(Sw.)K.Br.,hetypeofhegenusleurothallis.hereceptivestigmasarewidelyeparatedcf.plateofLe-panthopsisfloripecten,ig.,heeavilytippledrea)andatanthesisarenotconspicuouslyconfluentalong thefrontalmarginoftheclinandriumbeneaththerostellumasnP.uscifolia\athebasethegynostemiumsapo-dal,ndttheummitonspicuouslyilatedwithheposteriormarginoftheclinandriumcucullate.nP.ns-ctfoliahegynostemiumsmoreoresselongated,cylin-dricalwith pulvinateoot,ndnobliquelyruncateapex.     Themerementionofwidelyseparatedreceptivestig-mas,ooneamiliarwiththegeneraofthePleurothal-lidinae,shouldsuggestthehighlytechnicalgenusStelis,andwereitnotortheveryunusualperianthandhele-panthiformvegetativestructures, hinkthatonewouldbeinclinedtoreferP.floripectcntoStelis.Hutthis wouldbeadebatableprocedure.Tomakethisclearseveralflow-ersofcharacteristicpeciesofStelisareherefigured.donotelievethattwouldeonformableooundpracticetoremoveP.floripectcnanditsalliesfromPleu-rothallisandransferthemtoStelis.Theywouldconsti-tuteasaberrant groupntelisstheyurelyonPleurothallis.     HarbosaRodriguezinhisstudiesoftheBrazilianspe-ciesconcludedhatheywereeferableoepanthes.Vegetativelytheyarelepanthiformandthewidelyspread-ingconnatesepalsresemble verycloselythesepalsofcer-tainpeciesofepanthes,buthepetals,abellumndgynostemiumare very differentfromwhatobtainsinthatgenus.
