Cmo se dice en ingls: Sabes nadar??

La respuesta es: Can you swim?

En esta clase estudiaremos el uso de "Can", que es un verbo modal (auxiliar). Eso significa

que es un verbo que necesita ir acompaado de otro verbo en la oracin para tener sentido.

Significado de "Can":

"Can" significa "poder" (ser capaz de). No obstante, tambin puede significar "saber haceralgo", es decir, indica tener una habilidad.

Usos de "Can":

Can se usa para:

Solicitar o pedir algo

Pedir y dar permiso

Indicar una posibilidad

Habilidades

Veamos ejemplos:

Pedir: Can you come [keaniukam]? Puedes venir?

Dar permiso: You can go. [iukeangou] Te puedes ir.

puede ser tu amigo.

Veamos ahora la estructura de las oraciones afirmativas con "Can":

Estructura: Sujeto + can + verbo siempre en infinitivo.

Ejemplo 1: I can eat a lot[aikean iitalot]. (Yo) puedo comer mucho.

Ejemplo 2: She can study now [shii keanstadi nau]. Ella puede estudiar ahora.

Ejemplo 3: It can run (Itkeanran].Puede funcionar. (Una mquina, por ejemplo).

Cmo se niega con "Can"

Estructura negacin: Sujeto + cannot (can't)+ verbo principal en infinitivo siempre.

Ejemplo 1: They cannot (can't) work. [Dei kean'tgourk].Ellos/Ellas no pueden trabajar.

Ejemplo 2: She cannot (cant) live here anymore [Shi kean'tlIvhiirenimor].Ella ya no

puede vivir aqu.

Cmo se pregunta con "Can"?

Estructura preguntas: Can + sujeto + verbo siempre en infinitivo+?

Ejemplo 1: Can you open the door? [Keaniuopendedoor?] Puedes abrir la puerta (t)?

Ejemplo 2: Can she see us? [Keanshiisiias?] Puede (ella) vernos?

Repaso de las estructuras:

Positivo Sujeto+ can + verbo principal en infinitivo.

Negativo Sujeto + cannot (can't) + verbo principal en infinitivo siempre.

Observaciones:

- La ingls americano la "a" de "Can" se pronuncia entre un "ea". En ingls britnico, encambio, es una "a" ms abierta.

-En el ingls hablado es habitual que para negar se utilice "can't" (no cannot). Tambin sedistingue claramente el sonido de la "a" americano y el britnico.

-Es frecuente que al hablar los hispano hablantes no pronuncien bien la forma contraida del

negativo "cant" y no se entienda si dicen "can" o can't"; por ello, aconsejo que en caso de
