From the Pastor’s Desk… After the crucifixion the disciples were in such state of shock that even though the risen Christ had already shown himself to the Apostles they were still processing the extraordinary event of his resurrection. Initially they didn’t recognize him. They didn’t know it was the Christ the one who appeared to them. The disciples of Emmaus knew the story. They know about his miracles, omens, message and promises of resurrection. Yet they were not able to identify him as he walked along with them on their way back to Emmaus. With shattered hearts and hopes they decided to resume their existence as usual, in the ordinary of their lives. Instead of remaining in Jerusalem they simply go back home to what they knew, to what was secure and comfortable. It wasn’t until Christ accompanied them for supper when they recognized him “in the breaking of the bread”. The question for us is how can we see Jesus and recognize him today? The answer leaps from the encounter of these two disciples on their way to Emmaus two thousand years ago. Jesus today, just like then, acquires concrete manifestation. We see Christ in our celebration of the Eucharist and in our respect for his presence in the tabernacles. It begins with that sacred moment of our encounter with Him in the Eucharist, in the breaking of the bread of Heavens, the food of angels, men and women. But this is just the start. Seeing him touches all aspects of creation and human endeavor. If we already see him not any more shall we deliver statements like “all women are the same” or “all black people behave in one way” or “all Americans are alike”. If we really know Jesus we can see him without creating stereotypes founded on human personal prejudices. We see Christ in all women, especially in the suffering and abused ones, the ones whose dignity have been taken away by people or institutions. We see Christ in all our African American brothers and sisters who to this day struggle with being treated with dignity and in some extremist circles considered equals. We see Christ in the Americans who work for peace and justice around the world and we see him in the American who complains how badly things are done in other countries and see the ghost of “the enemy” where they don’t exist. This is what it means to see Christ for us Catholics; to see him in all. Encasing him in beautiful tabernacles or leaving him on the level of a mere moral, cosmetically majestic and altruistic idea is not enough. We open our eyes to get to know him and the world that surrounds us not with the eyes of the body but the eyes of faith. This is a call for all men and women, young and old, saints and sinners. Only in such we will see Christ in the breaking of the bread!

Del Escritorio del Párroco… Seguido a la crucifixión los discípulos quedaron traumatizados al punto de que a pesar que el Cristo resucitado se apareció a los Apóstoles todavía estaban procesando el extraordinario evento de la resurrección. Inicialmente muchos no lo recocieron. Ni siquiera se dieron cuenta que quien se les había aparecido era Cristo. Los discípulos de Emaús conocían la historia. Ellos sabían de sus milagros, signos, mensaje y promesa de resurrección. Aun así no podían identificarlo cuando él caminó con ellos en su jornada hacia Emaús. Con corazones e ilusiones rotas los discípulos decidieron

regresar a la normalidad de su existencia, a lo ordinario de sus vidas. En lugar de quedarse en Jerusalén simplemente decidieron regresar a lo conocido, a lo que para ellos era seguro y cómodo. No fue sino hasta que Cristo les acompañó a cenar que le pudieron reconocer “al partir el pan”. La pregunta para nosotros es, ¿Cómo podemos ver a Jesús y reconocerle hoy en día? La respuesta se desprende del encuentro que tuvieron los dos discípulos que iban de camino a Emaús hace dos mil años. Jesús hoy, al igual que entonces, se manifiesta en lo concreto. Vemos a Cristo en la celebración de la Eucaristía y en nuestro respeto por su presencia en el sagrario. Comienza con ese momento sagrado y nuestro encuentro con él en la hostia, en el partir del pan del cielo, comida de ángeles, hombres y mujeres. Pero esto es sólo el principio. El verle toca todos los aspectos de la creación y toda actividad humana. Si en verdad lo vemos ya no haremos declaraciones como “todas las mujeres son iguales” o todas las personas de color se comportan de la misma manera” o “todos los americanos blancos son lo mismo”. Si verdaderamente conocemos a Jesús lo podemos ver sin crear estereotipos basados en prejuicios humanos personales. Vemos a Cristo en toda mujer, especialmente en las que sufren y son abusadas, aquellas cuya dignidad se les ha sido arrebatada por personas e instituciones. Vemos a Cristo en todos nuestros hermanos y hermanas afro americanos quienes hasta este día luchan para que sean tratados con dignidad y en algunos círculos extremistas como iguales. Vemos a Cristo en los americanos que trabajan por la paz y la justicia y también en aquellos que se quejan de cuan malas están las cosas en otros países porque no las hacen como las hacemos aquí y ven el fantasma “del enemigo” donde no existe. Esto es lo que quiere decir el ver a Cristo para el Católico; verlo en todos. Abandonándolo en hermosos sagrarios y dejándolo en el nivel de lo mero moral, lo cosméticamente majestuoso y la idea altruista no son suficientes. Abrimos nuestros ojos para conocerlo y conocer el mundo que nos rodea, no con los ojos del cuerpo sino con los ojos de la fe. Este es un llamado para todo hombre, mujer, jóvenes y mayores, santos y pecadores. Sólo así podremos ver a Cristo en la fracción del pan.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS NOTICIAS DEL CATECISMO The Lord's Peace be with you! Next weekend a number of our CCD students will be receiving the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation. We are very excited for them and their loved ones, and wish them the very best wishes as they continue to grow in their walk with the Lord. This “walk” is intended to continue beyond this life into the everlasting life that is to come. All baptized Christians are called to actively cooperate with God’s plan for our salvation by living the present moment with this unending life in mind. This often can be difficult due to the many situations and circumstances that surround us, as well as our own tendency toward sinful behavior. But there is Good News: God will NEVER abandon us! His unconditional love divine mercy is available to us at all times and in all the circumstances we face. There is nothing that can change God. He is always with us and will never forsake us. May our precious candidates find in us a faithful witness and inspirational testimony which will serve to motivate them towards living lives of heroic virtue in Christ Jesus. Estamos muy emocionados por ellos y sus seres queridos, y les deseamos los mejores deseos mientras continúan creciendo en su caminar con el Señor. Este "caminar" tiene como propósito el continuar más allá de esta vida a la vida eterna por venir. Do you know someone who is ill or suffering? Let them know that God has not deserted them in their time of need. St. Aloysius Parish provides a ministry for the sick and suffering in our parish community. Our Prayer Shawl Ministry members knit and crochet shawls while praying for the healing of the recipient of each shawl. The completed prayer shawls are then blessed by our Pastor, Father Claudio Diaz, Jr. These shawls represent a visible symbol of our prayers and God's presence. To request a prayer shawl please call the parish office and request a form., 773-278-4808. ¿Conoces a alguien quien está enfermo o sufriendo? Déjales saber que Dios no los ha desamparado en su momento de necesidad. La Parroquia de San Luis Gonzaga provee un Ministerio para los enfermos y los que sufren en nuestra comunidad parroquial.
