*H.A.Rev 1*OverviewManual well planning is essentially the manipulation of right-angle triangles to compare differences in Displacement & TVD to place each point in the wellbore.

The rules are designed to help you determine which points you need to connect to build the correct triangles to find the solution to the problem.

*H.A.Rev 1*Rule 1A line needs to be drawn between the target and the Center of Radius of Curvature.

This rule applies to J profile wells only.

*H.A.Rev 1*This then needs to be triangulated by comparing the Displacement and TVD

This rule applies to J profile wells only.Rule 1

*H.A.Rev 1*This can also be triangulated by comparing the Displacement and TVD the other wayThis rule applies to J profile wells only. However these angles dont add up to either 90 or 180 making the calculation more difficultRule 1

*H.A.Rev 1*Whereas these angles add up to 180 making the calculation easier to work throughThis rule applies to J profile wells only.Rule 1

*H.A.Rev 1*This rule applies to S profile & double build wells. Here we look at a double build:A line needs to be drawn between the Centers of Radius of Curvature for each curve.Rule 2

*H.A.Rev 1*These then also need to be triangulated by comparing the Displacement and TVD

This rule applies to S profile & double build wells. Here we look at a double build:Rule 2

*H.A.Rev 1*This rule applies to S profile & double build wells. Here is an S well:The Radius of Curvature of one curve is projected onto the other R of C as an addition, as in this case, or a subtraction.Rule 3

*H.A.Rev 1*This rule applies to S profile & double build wells. Here is an S well:This is then triangulated by connecting the outside end to the Center of Radius of Curvature of the other curve.Rule 3

*H.A.Rev 1*This rule applies to S profile & double build wells. Here is a double build well:Rule 3The Radius of Curvature of one curve is projected onto the other R of C as, in this case, a subtraction.

*H.A.Rev 1*This rule applies to all well profiles.Rule 4Key Points in the well path need to be triangulated back to the nearest Center of Radius of Curvature by comparing relative Displacements and TVDs.
