A hovercraft (air-cushion vehicle, ACV) is acraft capable of traveling over surfaces while

supported.By a cushion of slow moving, high-pressure air

which is ejected against the surface below andcontained within a "skirt." Although supported byair, a hovercraft is not considered an aircraft.

The air beneath the hull would lubricatethe surface and reduce the water dragThe air sucked in through a port by

large lifting fansThey are powered by gas turbine or

diesel engine. The air is pushed to the under side of

the craftAir from the lift fan is used to inflate the

skirtWhen the pressure equals the weight ofthe craft, the craft lifts upAir escaped around the edges of the

skirt. So a constant feed of air is neededpropulsion is done by the propeller

Stability of the Hovercraft on its cushion of airremained a realplenum chamber with a momentum curtain was

developed by Sir Christopher Cockrell.high -pressure air was blown into the annulararea between two concentric tin cans producedan annular ring of airflowThis pressure provides lift to craftSo only small amount of air flow needed to the

    craft
