How to use Praat

Open it. To test your recording set up:

In the Praat Objects window, click on New.

Select "Record mono sound". (We only need one channel.)

Check to see that the input source is correct.

Built-in microphone if that is what you are using.

Built-in input if you have plugged in an external microphone.

Click on the Record button. Say "test, test, 123" just as if

you were a rock star. Click Stop, then Play, to check

that you got a clear recording with no background noise.

Click Close.

To record: Start all over again: Praat Objects >

New > Record mono sound Type in a name, such as "P9-

YourLastName". Prepare to say your stuff. Click Record and say your stuff. Click Stop. Click Play to review it. If you are satisfied, click Save to list

& Close. You can play it again. With the recording selected, click

Save. Save it as a .wav file. Quit Praat, even though you still

have objects in your list. Upload the file to Blackboard.
