From the Pastor’s Desk

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

This Sunday we celebrate the feast of Pente-cost. On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended with power upon the Apostles in the image of tongues of fire and thus began the mission of the Church in the world. Once they received the Spirit, they went out boldly and preached to all in Jerusalem and else-where. Jesus himself prepared the Eleven for this mission, appearing to them on many oc-casions after his Resurrection. They as a com-munity gathered together in prayer along with Mary in the Upper Room, awaiting the promised event. It is here they all received the Holy Spirit. This feast of Pentecost is the culmination of the Paschal mystery which tells us of the sending of the Spirit of the Fa-ther and the Son on the disciples. Today’s feast shows that the Holy Spirit is an ongoing reality, which still touches our lives every sin-gle day. Let us open our hearts to be attentive to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. We are commissioned by Jesus to carry on his work in our daily lives and in the lives of others. I pray that we may continue to experience the fruits of the Holy Spirit. May peace and love dwell in our hearts. Sincere gratitude to all of you who supported and participated in last Sunday’s Mother’s Day Dance. Thanks so very much.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas:

Este domingo celebramos la fiesta de Pentecostés. En el día de Pentecostés, el Espíritu Santo descen-dió con poder sobre los apóstoles bajo la imagen de lenguas de fuego y así comenzó la misión de la Iglesia en el mundo. Una vez que recibieron el Espíritu, salieron con valentía y predicaron a to-do Jerusalén y otros lugares. Jesús mismo prepa-ró a los once para esta misión, apareciendo en numerosas ocasiones después de su resurrección. Ellos como comunidad reunida en oración junto con María en el Cenáculo, esperaban el aconteci-miento prometido. Es aquí donde todos ellos re-cibieron el Espíritu Santo. Esta fiesta de Pentecos-tés es la culminación del misterio pascual, que nos habla del envío del Espíritu del Padre y del hijo a los discípulos. La fiesta de hoy demuestra que el Espíritu Santo es una realidad permanen-te, que impacta aún nuestras vidas cada día. Abramos nuestro corazón para estar atentos al Espíritu Santo. Jesús nos encarga llevar a cabo su labor en nuestras vidas diarias y en las vidas de los demás. Estoy rezando para que podamos seguir experimentando los frutos del Espíritu Santo. Que la paz y el amor habite en nuestros corazones. Un sincero agradecimiento a todos aquellos que apoyaron y participaron en el do-mingo pasado durante el baile del día de la Ma-dre .
