HAY - NO HAY - HAY?

La expresin invariable espaola HAY se traduce en ingls por dos expresiones distintas:

THERE IS para el singular

THERE ARE para el plural.

Ejemplos: There is a book on the table (Hayun libro sobre la mesa);

There are two books on the table (Haydos libros sobre la mesa).

THERE IS y THERE ARE con el significado de HAY se usan siempre al principio de la oracin; por ese motivo

se lo llama gramaticalmente el there "introductivo". Mientras en castellano puedes decir indistintamente

Hay tres dormitorios en la casa o En la casa hay tres dormitorios, en ingls debes decir siempre There are

three bedrooms in the house.

ATENCION! No confundas el there introductivo con

there (all), opuesto a here (aqu). I

ncluso puede ocurrrir que en una misma frase se encuentren ambos there: Ejemplo: There aresome

trees there (Hayalgunos rboles all).

Las formas interrogativas son: IS THERE? y ARE THERE? (HAY?).

Ejemplos: Is there a book on the table? (Hayun libro sobre la mesa?);

Are there two books on the table? (Haydos libros sobre la mesa?).

Las formas negativas son: THERE ISN'T y THERE AREN'T (NO HAY).

Ejemplos: There isn't a book on the table (No hayun libro sobre la mesa);

There aren't two books on the table (No haydos libros sobre la mesa).

Nota*Se puede hacer una contraccin de "There is" a "There's".

No se puede hacer una contraccin de "There are."

Theres a table in your house. Hay una mesa en tu casa.

SOME ANY

1. SOME (unos, unas, algunos, algunas) es el plural del artculo indefinido a (uno, una) y se usa

nicamente en oraciones afirmativas.

2. Para expresar unos, unas, algunos, algunasen oraciones interrogativas o negativas se usa ANY.

Ejemplos: There are some chairs in the living room

(Hayalgunas sillas en la sala de estar).

Esta oracin es POSITIVA pues dice que HAY SILLAS.

But there aren't any chairs in the kitchen

(Pero no hayninguna silla en la cocina).

Esta oracin es NEGATIVA pues dice que NO HAY SILLAS. NO (ningn, ninguno) se usa exclusivamente con

oraciones negativas y, en el ejemplo de arriba, con un sustantivo contable en singular: sofa.

PARA RECORDAR !!

NOT ANY y NO son sinnimos.

Como regla general, cuando se los usa con sustantivos contables,

NOT ANY va seguido del sustantivo EN PLURAL,

mientras que

NO va seguido del sustantivo EN SINGULAR.

Pero si el verbo con el cual se inicia la oracin est en plural (ARE en lugar de IS),

entonces NO va seguido del sustantivo EN PLURAL porque debe existir concordancia en la oracin.
