Terminal 2 abri en 1999, nueva y brillante,muy al estilo occidental, con una arquitecturaabstracta, y actualmente expandindose deforma furiosa para los prximos Juegos

Olmpicos. Cuenta con todos los servicios,incluido el cambio de divisas.

Lo ms prctico para desplazarse al centroes tomar un taxi. Hay que coger el taxifuera, en una cola vigilada por policaque informa a los turistas para no sertimados. Reparten un folleto (en chino y eningls) donde especifica el funcionamientodel cobro. Evitar a los espontneos queofrecen sus servicios dentro de la terminal.Insistir en que pongan el taxmetro. Condarle al taxista el nombre del hotel en chino,con un poco de suerte y alguna llamadapor su parte al hotel, se llega rpido y abuen precio. Del aeropuerto al centro puedecostar sobre 70 - 120 RMB. Se le puede

exigir el ticket que imprimen directamente deltaxmetro, y si bien suelen salir las columnasde datos desplazadas de la plantilla, sepuede entender bien. Lo ms importante esfijarse en el precio por kilmetros, que tieneque coincidir con el expuesto en los cristalesde las ventanillas (hay de 1.2 , de 1.6 yde 2.0 , pueden timar poniendo 3.0 ). Hayque pagar un suplemento de 10 RMB por elpeaje de la autopista al aeropuerto.

Tambin hay un autobs del aeropuerto alcentro, el coste del autobs es mucho msmoderado.

Pregunte a su hotel si dispone de un autocarespecfico para el aeropuerto, muchosdisponen de uno.

A la salida, si se quiere comer o compraralgo, evitar la zona internacional, hacerloantes de entrar, pues los precios semultiplican por diez. Admiten dlares y RMB.

Ignore a cualquier espontneo que le vendaun ticket para salir del aeropuerto. Estose us antes, pero ahora las tasas estnincluidas en el billete.

La mayor estacin de trenes est situadaen el corazn de la ciudad (Beijing Railway

Station, ), seguida muy de cerca entamao por la estacin del Oeste (Beijing

West Railway Station, ). Si se llega aBeijing en tren, se har por alguna de estasdos. Existe tambin una estacin en el Norte(Beijing North Railway Station, ), perode un tamao ms discreto, y una en el Sur,ms pequea todava (Beijing South Railway

Station, ).

En coche

Resulta bastante complicado. Si se alquilauno, tiene que ser con chofer, pueshace falta un carn especial que emiteel gobierno chino. Adems la forma deconducir de los chinos no tiene nada

que ver con la occidental. Semforos con

cuenta atrs, barras que se consumen enlugar de luces ordinarias, gente cruzandoen todos los lugares sin respetar normaalguna, maniobras de acorralamiento quetomaramos por ofensivas cuando all es lonatural, octogenarios en bicicleta por callesde cinco carriles en contra direccin... Noaconsejo ni usar una bici, cruzar la calleandando ya resulta muy complicado.

En autobs

Hay autocares de largas distancias queconectan Beijing con Shanghai o la froteracon Mongolia, por ejemplo. Un autocarcon literas para dormir puede salir por100 RMB el trayecto, pero son muylentos, hacen muchas paradas y no utilizanlas autopistas. Puede ser una autnticaexperiencia ilustrativa de como viaja el chino

de clase humilde. Existen tambin autocaresde ms categora, que utilizan autopistas,tienen asientos cmodos y tardan menos de6 horas en llegar al destino, su precio oscilaentre los 200 y 600 RMB.

El sistema de bus de Beijing es terriblementecomplejo. Para los ciudadanos es unaopcin excelente, y si se llega a conocercual hay que usar, no hay nada mejor.El problema es que no hay informacinpara el turista, pues todo est escritoen chino, y el mapa de lneas (solo vi

uno en toda la ciudad) es un galimatasindescifrable. Preguntar a los usuariosresulta absolutamente intil. El precio es muybajo, del orden de 1-3 RMB, y si hay suerteuno puede sentarse. En horas punta, estodo un espectculo ver a tantos chinosmetidos en uno. No creo que fuera posibletal llenado si no fuera por los revisores,que ayudan a subir, a bajar, y a apiarse.Con todo, vale la pena probar. Se pierdemuy poco y los revisores son muy amables.

La seguridad es muy alta y la higiene noresulta tan mala. Incluso el conductor tieneuna palangana donde se puede asear lasmanos y la cara en los semforos largos.El horario de los buses es de 5:30 a23:00 diariamente, y las horas puntas son6:30-9:00 y17:00-19:00. Para el aeropuertopuede costar sobre 16 RMB.

vitrinas y mobiliario suponen tambinalgo digno de admirar. Aunque malconservadas en su mayora, el estilo esmuy singular.

Palacio de Verano ( Yh yun)extensos jardines junto a las ruinasde los palacios construidos por losemperadores de la dinasta Quing. Unade las ms bellas visitas que se puedenrealizar en la ciudad. Uno puede pasarsetodo el da visitando bellas vistas ylugares escondidos. Los puentes sobrelas islas aisladas del lago son muy bellos.Hay una vista estupenda de la ciudad.Una forma sencilla de llegar consiste encoger el autobs 808, que pasa por todoel centro de la ciudad y acaba justo en lapuerta de los Jardines.

HagaAlquilar una bicicleta y atravesar algunazona de hutongs (casas antiguas deuna planta que evoca la imagen quetenemos de la forma de vivir china). Si secircula por dentro de estas reas no espeligroso con respecto a los coches.

Beijing es una ciudad muy segura, muchoms que Madrid o Barcelona. Tener lasprecauciones tpicas y cuidado con lacartera en las multitudes.

No hacer caso a los supuestosestudiantes de arte que le invitan a unoa ver una exposicin o cualquier cosa,

luego habr engao. Cualquier personaque domine el ingls y est por la callesin oficio aparente es para ponerse enguardia.

Cuidado con los tours para la GranMuralla que ofrecen por la calle al preciode 100-150 Yuan. Mejor ir con los toursoficiales, ms seguros y econmicos.

Atencin a los billetes falsos, hay grancantidad en circulacin (de 50 y 100

yuan) y los chinos siempre observancon cuidado, sin considerarse estaoperacin como descorts. Comprobarbien el tacto, color y la marca de agua.

Ante la duda, pedir otro, insisto en queno se lo toman a mal.

Mucho cuidado con el cambio. Lostrucos ms habituales consiste en tomarlos Jijaos (dcima parte del yuan) por

yuanes, tambin el fingir que se le hadado un billete falso al comprar y exigirotro, con lo que acabas con uno falso

t que no podrs colar a nadie. Mirar losrecibos con lupa.

El trfico es muy complejo. Si bienlegalmente el peatn tiene derecho enlos pasos cebra, ni tan siquiera conel semforo en verde para peatones

y un guardia delante podemos estartranquilos. No hay derechos, no imperala ley del ms fuerte, no es salvaje,simplemente es diferente. Lo mejor esagruparse con los nativos y cruzarcuando ellos, por absurdo y temerarioque parezca. Ignorar los pitidos de loscoches, pitan siempre y sin motivoaparente.

Salud

Una navaja multiusos con sacacorchospuede ser muy valiosa, pero no hay queolvidar facturarla con las maletas, pues encaso contrario se la quedarn los guardiasdel control de metales.

La polucin es fabulosa, alcanza gradosdesconocidos para los occidentales. Sobretodo el olor a azufre (del carbn) llega aser muy penetrante. La mala combustin delparque automovilstico, el viento del desierto

y las instalaciones obsoletas son algunas delas razones. Con el fro adems se formauna especie de inversin trmica que atrapatodo. Mucha fruta y una mascarilla blanca(muchos nativos la llevan en momentospuntuales) ayudar a paliar un poco el

asunto.

El t y la cerveza, las dos bebidas mspopulares, ayudarn a combatir fro ymicrobios.

En general no se puede decir que sea unlugar peligroso con respecto a las comidas.Es posible estar una semana y no tenerdiarreas. Tomar precauciones tales comono comer alimentos crudos y manipuladospor cualquiera, lavarse siempre las manosantes de comer y cosas por el estilo. Un

yogur diario puede ayudar. Al cepillarse losdientes, usar los botellines de agua que elhotel ponga para tal fin, incluido el limpiar elcepillo.

Llevar siempre pauelos de papel y/o toallashmedas, en general no hay en los serviciospblicos. Por no haber, no hay ni separacinel los baos (al menos en algunos de

hombres, y no me refiero solo a los urinarios).Si se puede, evitar los pblicos y usar los delhotel o sitios grandes.

En general la censura de internet no esproblema para el turista. La wikipedia estcensurada, pero la wikitravel de momentono. El correo electrnico suele marchar bien.

Historia

La Plaza de Tiananmen

Estadio Nacional de Pekn (conocido como el Nido dePjaro), sede de los Juegos Olmpicos de 2008

Existen vestigios de asentamientoshumanos en el entorno de Pekn desde almenos el ao 1000 a. C. En la ciudadde Ji, cercana al actual Pekn, estuvosituada la capital del Estado de Yan, unode los estados del periodo de los Reinos

Combatientes. En todo caso, no se conocela ubicacin exacta de la ciudad de Ji,abandonada en el siglo VI.

Durante las grandes dinastas Tang y Song,solamente existan pequeas aldeas en lazona. La dinasta Song perdi gran parte desu territorio en el norte, incluyendo Pekn,ante las conquistas de la nueva dinasta Liao

en el siglo X. Los Liao fundaron una segunda

capital en la ciudad a la que llamaronNanjing("capital del Sur"). La dinasta Jin conquistarams adelante Liao y el norte de China,renombrando la ciudad como Zhongdu (),o "capital central".

Los invasores mongoles fundaron la dinastaYuan cuando conquistaron China, arrasandoZhongdu en 1215 y reconstruyndola comola Gran Capital (), al norte de la capitalJin, siendo ste el comienzo de la ciudadactual de Pekn. Los relatos de Marco Poloaluden a la ciudad como Cambaluc. KublaiKan, el primer emperador Yuan, establecisu capital en la actual Pekn por estar msprxima a su base de poder en Mongolia,lo cual realz la importancia de la ciudad apesar de que estuviera en el lmite norte deChina.

La dinasta Ming, que derroc a losmongoles, estableci en un principio lacapital en Nankn; pero en 1403, el terceremperador Ming, Yngl (), que habaaccedido al trono tras matar a su sobrinoal final de una larga lucha por el poder,traslad la capital de nuevo a Pekn. LaCiudad Prohibida fue construida entre 1406

y 1420, seguida del Templo del Cielo (1420),

y otros proyectos. La Puerta de Tian'anmen,fue quemada dos veces durante la dinastaMing y se reconstruy finalmente en 1651.

La Repblica de China estableci su capitalen Nankn y Pekn fue renombrada Beiping.Durante la Segunda Guerra Sino-Japonesa,fue ocupada por Japn el 29 de julio de1937. Durante la ocupacin, Pekn fue la

capital del comit ejecutivo del norte de

China, un estado ttere que gobern el nortede la China ocupada. La ocupacin durhasta la rendicin de Japn, el 15 de agostode 1945.

El 31 de enero de 1949, durante laGuerra Civil China, las fuerzas comunistasentraron en Pekn sin acciones violentas.El 1 de octubre de ese ao, el lder delPartido Comunista de China Mao Zedong,proclam en la Plaza de Tian'anmen la nuevaRepblica Popular China.

Tras las reformas econmicas de Deng Xiaoping, el rea urbana se ha ampliadoenormemente. Guomao se ha convertidoen un rea comercial, Wangfujing y Xidanse han transformados en distritos decompras, mientras que Zhongguancun seha convertido en el centro de la electrnica

china.Como capital de la nacin, Pekn hasido tambin el escenario de protestas

y acontecimientos polticos, como lasprotestas del 4 de mayo de 1919, quedaran lugar al Movimiento del Cuatro deMayo, la proclamacin de la RepblicaPopular el 1 de octubre de 1949, el

incidente de Tian'anmen de 1976, cuandose produjeron numerosas protestas enrecuerdo del fallecido primer ministro ZhouEnlai y, ms recientemente, las protestasde la Plaza de Tian'anmen en 1989, queterminaron siendo sofocadas de manera

violenta mediante la intervencin del ejrcitoel 4 de junio, en una de las acciones mscontrovertidas de la historia de la Repblica

Popular China. La plaza tambin ha sido el

lugar de protestas de seguidores de FalunGong.

En aos recientes, Pekn ha sufrido lasconsecuencias de la rpida urbanizacin,en mbitos como la congestin de lacirculacin, la contaminacin del aire, ladestruccin del patrimonio histrico y lallegada masiva de inmigrantes de otraspartes del pas.

En Pekn se celebraron los Juegos

Olmpicos de 2008, famosos por ser una delas mejores y ms estructuradas olimpiadasque se han visto desde los inicios de stas.

El Templo del Cielo

Los pekineses hablan el dialecto pekins delmandarn, en el que se basa elptnghu,la forma estndar del chino.

La pera de Pekn ( jngj), es muyconocida en la capital. Se dice que es unade la mayores expresiones de la culturachina. Las representaciones se componen

de una combinacin de canto, dilogo,escenas de accin codificadas con gestos,paseos, luchas y acrobacias. Gran partede las peras estn escritas en un dialectoarcaico bastante diferente del chino actual,por lo que el dilogo es difcil de entender,

y el problema se complica si no seest familiarizado con el chino; por estolos teatros modernos tienen paneles quemuestran subttulos en chino y en ingls.

El shyun () es el tipo de viviendarepresentativo del estilo arquitectnicotradicional de Pekn. Consiste en casascuadradas con un corredor en torno aun patio central, que normalmente tienerboles, flores y estanques para peces.

Los htng o callejones conectan el interiorde la vieja ciudad de Pekn. Generalmenteson rectos y corren de este a oeste.

As, las puertas de las viviendas puedenabrirse hacia el norte y el sur para seguirlas normas del Feng Shui. Algunos sonrealmente estrechos y slo permiten el pasode unos pocos peatones al mismo tiempo.El vehculo de transporte que reina en los

htng es la bicicleta.

Tanto loshtng como los shyunestn desapareciendo de Pekn. La ciudadest reemplazando los viejos edificios porinmensos rascacielos. Los habitantes delos barrios antiguos se estn reubicandoen nuevos apartamentos del mismo tamaoque sus antiguas residencias. Sin embargo,todos coinciden en que el sentimiento decomunidad y el estilo de vida de loshtng

jams podr ser reemplazado.

Algunos htng estn siendo preservados y restaurados por el gobierno. Quierenasegurarse de que durante la celebracinde los Juegos Olmpicos de Verano delao 2008 por lo menos queden algunosde estos antiguos barrios; barrios quemantienen la tradicin y recuerdan la vieja

China en esta gran ciudad en la que seha convertido Pekn. Algunos ejemplos deestoshtng restaurados se pueden ver enla zona de Nanchizi.

La cocina tradicional de Pekn es la cocinade estilo mandarn. El "pato a la pekinesa"o "pato laqueado" es tal vez su plato msconocido internacionalmente. Se trata de

una receta que se remonta al siglo XIIIpara la que se utilizan unos patos cebadosespecialmente. Su carne se somete a uncomplicado proceso de coccin. Este patoasado se sirve acompaado de una salsa decereales, rodajas de puerro y unas tortitasespeciales.

Las casas de t son muy populares enPekn. El t chino tiene muchas variedades,algunas realmente caras. La medicinatradicional china atribuye poderes curativosal t.

Educacin

En Pekn hay abundantes universidades.Las ms famosas son: la Universidadde Pekn, la Universidad de Tsinghua, laUniversidad Normal de Pekn, la Universidad

de Comunicacin de China, la Universidadde Estudios Extranjeros y la UniversidadPopular de China, entre otras.

Arquitectura

Predominan tres estilos arquitectnicos.El primero corresponde a la arquitecturatradicional de la poca imperial. El segundo,

denominado Sino-Sov, fue utilizado entre losaos 50 y 70. Las construcciones de esteestilo se caracterizan por tener una formams bien cbica y por estar constituidas pormateriales baratos.
