Heavenly Banquet

In today’s Gospel, by telling an allegoric parable of judgment in the Temple of Jerusalem two days before his

arrest, Jesus accuses the Jewish religious and civil leaders of rejecting God’s invitation to the Heavenly Banquet

given to them through God’s Own Son, Himself. They have rejected the invitation by not listening to the Good

News preached by Jesus and by not reforming their lives. This invitation was repeatedly extended to Israel

through the prophets, including John the Baptist. But the leadership at the time of Jesus rejected the reality that

Jesus was the fulfillment of all prophecy and refused to accept God’s invitation to righteous living given through

John the Baptist and through Jesus, and was planning to kill God’s own Son, Jesus. Hence, God invited the

sinners and Gentiles for His banquet, and that was why Jesus kept the company of sinners.

We need to keep wearing the wedding garment of holiness and righteousness, the state of grace, all the time, do

good for everyone, and appreciate and receive God's graces in the Church.

We received the “wedding garment” of sanctifying grace in Baptism; the other Sacraments provide the

additional graces we need to retain it. Our participation in the Eucharistic celebration and in personal and family

prayers helps us to recharge our spiritual batteries and enables us to lead Spirit-filled, prayerful lives of doing

good for all.

Jesus nourishes us in the Church through the proclamation of word of God and through His Body and Blood

offered to us as spiritual Food and Drink in Holy Communion.

Banquete Celestial

En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús al contar una parábola alegórica del juicio en el Templo de Jerusalén dos días

antes de su arresto, Jesús acusa a los líderes religiosos y civiles judíos de rechazar la invitación de Dios al

Banquete Celestial que les fue dado a través del propio Hijo de Dios. Han rechazado la invitación al no escuchar

la Buena Nueva predicada por Jesús y al no reformar sus vidas. Esta invitación se extendió repetidamente a

Israel a través de los profetas, incluido Juan el Bautista. Pero el liderazgo en la época de Jesús rechazó la realidad

de que Jesús era el cumplimiento de toda profecía y se negó a aceptar la invitación de Dios a una vida justa dada

a través de Juan el Bautista y a través de Jesús, y estaba planeando matar al propio Hijo de Dios, Jesús. Por

tanto, Dios invitó a los pecadores y a los gentiles a su banquete, y por eso Jesús mantuvo la compañía de los

pecadores.

Hoy somos invitados por Jesús a seguir vistiendo el vestido de bodas de santidad y justicia, ese vestido es el

estado de gracia, haciendo el bien a todos, apreciando y recibiendo la gracia de Dios en la Iglesia.

Recibimos el "vestido de boda" de la gracia santificante en el bautismo; los otros sacramentos proporcionan las

gracias adicionales que necesitamos para retenerlo. Nuestra participación en la celebración eucarística y en las

oraciones personales y familiares nos ayuda a recargar nuestras baterías espirituales y nos permite llevar una

vida llena del Espíritu, la oración para hacer el bien para todos.

Jesús nos nutre en la Iglesia mediante la proclamación de la palabra de Dios y a través de Su Cuerpo y Sangre

que se nos ofrece como Comida y Bebida espiritual en la Sagrada Comunión.
