Las pinturas de Gorka Piñol están basa-das en un criterio que trata de generar una deriva espacial en la propia pintura; de la di-mensión que él va transitando y ordenando a partir del color, la forma y el tiempo.

Los espacios geométricos que se pueden ver en ellas: las estructuras y zonas yuxta-puestas, toman como referencia el concep-to de entropía como medida de orden o des-orden entre sus elementos.

Utilizando el recorrido como deriva pictó-rica, consigue obtener nuevas maneras de interacción y mutabilidad a cada pieza que va logrando. La repetición como una varia-ble, y el color como un indicador de estos cambios, son dos aspectos principales que le sirven como punto de partida en cada pie-za.

Through painting, Gorka’s work seems to be searching, some sort of spatial ‘dé¬rive’

By color, shape and time, every piece seems to be an attempt to find something about transit’s spatial dimensions.

The geometric compositions that one can watch, take entropy as main con¬cept of production.

Using the transit as a painting ‘dérive’, he tries to get new ways of interaction and mu-tability for every canvas he makes.

The perpetual repetition as a variable and the color as an indicator of these changes, are two of the main ideas that helps him to start painting.

“Se construye un edificio, este es el más alto y robusto del mundo, es el más fiable y puede aguantar lo que sea, sus estructu-ras son las más resistentes y dúctiles, he-chas con el mejor acero; pueden soportar y afrontar cualquier tipo de problema que pudiera surgir… yo, soy los dos grados de temperatura de menos o de más que suben en ese territorio, creando la humedad y las condiciones climáticas perfectas para dar vida a un nuevo parásito al que no se tenía en cuenta, ya que tal elemento no existía. Éste, oxidaría, debilitaría su esqueleto y fi-nalmente, lo haría caer.”

Their foundations, are pretty resistant and ductile, made with the best steel, they can support and deal with every kind of trouble that it might come...

Me, I’m the two degrees more or less in this land, making the perfect climatic con-ditions in order to bring into life a new para-site, one that has never took into account, one that before doesn’t exist. This parasite will oxidize the building’s foundation until it falls.”

I’d like to provoke an intervention in my own artistic process, and also in every piece that I’ve made.

In the next pages, I´ll present a selection about the most representative of my artistic work, trying to explain some of the methodo-logy that I use.

Me interesa provocar una intervención so-bre mi propio proceso de producción, y so-bre cada pieza que voy haciendo.

En este dossier presento una selección de mis obras, también parte del proceso que uso en cada una de ellas.

En la siguiente pintura, a partir de combi-naciones de colores y de números primos, genero unas normas, las que me sirven para configurar y realizar la pieza.

Para hacer otras piezas como esta, gene-ralmente uso secuencias numéricas popu-lares, series de cifras, sumas, restas, divi-siones...

The next painting, use color combinations related with prime numbers. In this case, I’ve try to get a series of rules that helps me to assemble the piece.

In order to make some other pieces alike to this one, I generally try to use popular numeric sequences, simple mathematics operations, like addition, subtraction or di-vision…

One can watch different combinations repeated on and on. Generally these com-binations tend to be anecdotic related with some ideas and observations that sometime got my attention. However the reiteration is the main objective of each painting.

In the next painting, between colors, there’s a word hidden, one that is distributed by them, and by the shapes of the elements that are part of this canvas.

Vemos distintas combinaciones de ele-mentos repetidos una y otra vez. General-mente, los motivos son anecdóticos, obser-vaciones o ideas que me llaman la atención, sin embargo la reiteración es el verdadero e importante motivo de las propuestas.

En la siguiente pieza se esconde una pa-labra. Ésta está distribuida a través de los colores y los elementos que forman parte de este lienzo

Before I start painting, first I sketch the structure in a way; I plan and decide where to put the foundations. I’ve set what rules will determine the position of every piece in the space. Then I paint it all.

Antes de empezar el cuadro, esbozo la estructura, el esqueleto de lo que será la pieza y coloco los elementos. Establezco unas normas, leyes que determinaran la po-sición de cada rectángulo, de cada espacio, seguidamente, lo pinto todo.

In the canvas, every part of it is perfectly arranged; letting that every piece on it makes a connection to each other.

En el cuadro, cada cuarto de éste se en-cuentra perfectamente ordenado; Logrando que las distintas partes se relacionen unas con otras.

Using only two colors, in the next piece one can watch how the differences between the elements are all cover by the same co-lor.

This kind of compositions recall me urban zones, provided only by their foundations generating new distributions.

Usando sólo dos colores, en la siguiente pieza se puede observar como las diferen-cias entre los distintos elementos quedan cubiertas por un mismo color.

este tipo de composicion remite a zonas urbanas, provistas unicamente de sus es-tructuras, generando organizaciones nue-vas.

The next canvas is part of a serie of five. All the set shares a formal procedure of construction that helps the pieces to keep the connection. Nevertheless each canvas has it own individual process.

El siguiente cuadro forma parte de una serie de cinco, los cuales además de su as-pecto formal comparten entre ellos distintos pero relacionados procedimientos de cons-trucción.

In the next piece, in a way, I try to challen-ge the fragility of the structures that make part of our reality.

What it seems like to be a strong and so-lid organization, might be totally modified by one single element.

My interest now is fixed into the interven-tion by the same piece that has created this element.

En el siguiente cuadro trato de poner a prueba la fragilidad de las estructuras que nos proponemos como hacedoras de nues-tra realidad.

Lo que se muestra como una sólida y fuer-te organización, es modificada totalmente con un pequeño gesto, moviendo un ele-mento mediante una ligera intervención, se evidencia la aparente solidez de su dispo-sición.

Mi interés al hacer esto es provocar una intervención sobre la misma pieza.

All interior structures disappear, the order in the shapes, the sequences are interiori-zed, the organizations are in there, and ne-vertheless they are not part of the process anymore.

The previous spaces, the crosslink, and the route that they’ve made, now are only a part of the concept for the following pieces.

‘Dèrives’ of the painting by the act of pain-ting. Apparently random movements and color combinations, that every time are more extreme, that have the pursuit of the color as a differentiator and as moderator; one that allows me to provoke a reaction and dialog with the one that is watching.

Desaparecen las estructuras interiores, el orden de las formas, las secuencias, están interiorizadas, las organizaciones están ahí, pero no son parte del proceso.

Los antiguos espacios, sus cruces, los re-corridos que se generan, son ahora la base de las siguientes piezas.

Derivas de la propia pintura, tránsitos apa-rentemente aleatorios, combinaciones de colores, cada vez más extremas, con la in-tención también de que el color sea, no sólo diferenciador, sino moderador; uno que me permita provocar una reacción y un dialogo con el espectador.
