La biodiversidad es la “VARIEDAD DE VIDA”... se refiere a la DIVERSIDAD DE ESPECIES de plantas, animales, hongos y microorganismos que viven en un espacio determinado, a su VARIABILIDAD GENÉTICA, a los ECOSISITEMAS, sus ENTORNOS y a los PROCESOS ecológicos y evolutivos que se dan.

Biodiversity is the “VARIETY OF LIFE”... and it refers to the diver-sity of species of plants, animals, fungus and microorganisms that live in a certain place, to their GENETIC VARIETY, the ECOSYS-TEMS, their SURROUNDINGS, and the ecological and evolutive PROCESSES taking place.

Costa Rica se encuentra entre los 20 países con mayor biodiversidad, representa solamente el 0,03% de la superficie terrestre mundial y en ese pequeño porcentaje aporta el 4% de la biodiversidad mundial (500000 especies de las cuales 300000 son insectos). Aproximadamente el 25% del territorio está protegido.

Costa Rica is one of the 20 most biodiverse countries, it represents only 0,03% of the world´s land surface and in this small space we provide 4% of the world´s biodiversity (500000 species in which 300000 are insects). 25% of Costa Rica´s land in under protection.

Las tortugas llevan más 100 millones de años en la tierra. Las tortugas marinas viven entre 150-200 años según su especie. Es una especie muy amenazada desde su primera etapa de vida, solamente 1 de cada 1000 tortuguitas sobreviven a la etapa adulta.

Turtles have been on the Earth for over 100 million years. Sea turtles can live between 150-200 years. They are a really threatened species since birth, only 1 out of 1000 baby turtles live up to the adult stage.

-Técnica para redes de pesca TED (”dispositivo de exclusión de

tortugas”) -Apoyar organizaciones que protegen a las tortugas marinas (donaciones o voluntariado). Desde 1997 en Costa

Rica existe PRETOMA (más de 170,000 crías de tortuga

protegidas)-Reducir el saqueo de nidos

-Aumentar la población de crías -Educación Ambiental

-TED (turtle exclusion device) for fishing

-Join organizations that protect sea turtles. Since 1997 PRETOMA has been working in Costa Rica (over

170,000 turtle hatchlings have been protected)

-Reduce poaching-Increase hatchlings life chances

-Environmental Education

AYUDEMOS LET´S HELP THEM

Estudiantes del colegio Quest en EEUU nos visitaron el 3 de mayo, y nos acompañaron en un tour de sostenibilidad en las instalaciones del hotel. Mau lideró el tour y Adrián nos ayudó a cortar caña de la huerta para que todos la probaran.

Students from Quest High School in USA visited us on may 3, they joined us for the Green Living Tour around the hotel. Mau was the tour leader and Adrián helped us chopping some sucar cane for them to try.

REFUGIO PARA VIDA SALVAJEREFUGE FOR WILDLIFE

28 de mayo- Pame y Karla fueron a visitar el Refugio de Vida Salvaje en Huacas, con los huéspedes Kasey y Patrick. En el refugio, Brenda nos contó de los muchos accidentes eléctricos, entre otros, que sufren los monitos y otros animales en nuestra comunidad. Están haciendo un excelente trabajo y esfuerzo para su protección y liberación de vuelta en su hábitat.

May 28- Pame and Karla went to visit the Refuge for Wildlife in Huacas, with our guests Kasey and Patrick. OIn the refuge, Brenda told us about the many electrical accidents, amongst others, that the monkeys and other animals suffer in our community. They are really doing a great job to help and set free this beautiful animals.
