INTRODUCTION

Based on recommendations made in a preliminary report by

J. Descarreaux, ground geophysical examinations were carried

out on the Mi nnipuka-Wal Is property of Ekersval Resources

Ltd. in the Oba Area of northern Ontario.

The surveys were conducted during February and March, 1989

by Laforest-Hlava Exploration Ltd. o-f Timmins, Ontario.

Amid the wealth of information evinced by the magnetic

survey, the fold pattern in the central part of the property

may prove most interesting.

Additional work is warranted to complete coverage of the

airborne anomalies in the southern part of the property.

PROPERTY. LOCATION k ACCESS

Ekersval Resources' Minnipuka-Wall property consists of 89

contiguous unpatented mining claims located in the townships

of Walls and Minnipuka in the Porcupine Mining Division of

Northern Ontario. This report deals with 59 of the 74 claims

in Minnipuka Township that are covered by the surveys. They

are:

P-893 034 to P-893 036 3

P-893 039 to P-893 041 3

P-B93 049 to P-893 068 20

and P-930 433 to P-930434 all inclusive. .2Total 59

The property lies on the boundary of Minnipuka and Walls

Townships in the District of Algoma, Northern Ontario, with the majority lying in the former. The area of investigation

lies wholly in Minnipuka Township between the township line

and the eastern edge of the property.

The region, known as Kapuskasing-Hearst, lies 180 km

west-northwest of Timmins and 130 km north-northeast of

Wawa, both, mining communities. Nearer communities include

the railway town of Oba, the railway and logging town of Hearst, and the pulp and paper town of Kapuskasing which are

respectively, 20 km northwest, 70 km north, and 100 km

east-northeast of the property

The survey area and the overall property is accessible by

-Forestry roads that connect with the Trans-Canada Highway

(11) at Hearst. Diverse partially abandoned branch roads

extend throughout the property. The area is also accessible

from Oba which is joined to Highway 11 by the secondary road

583.

Oba is at the junction of Canadian National Railway's main

transcontinental line and the Algoma Central railway that

runs from Sault Ste. Marie to Hearst. The station of

Minnipuka on the Canadian National line is 10 kilometres

south of the survey grid.

TOPOGRAPHY

Minnipuka Township lies at the southwestern margin of the

Abitibi Clay Belt of Northern Ontario and Quebec, an ancient

lake bed where most of relief is due to erosion. Half a

kilometre south of the grid there is a knoll which rises 75

m above the general relief. The gridded area also covers

part of the northern tip of Goat Lake

Much of the forest that covered the area has recently been

harvested by open slash methods. Reforestation in the form

of burns, scarification, and planting is currently in

progress. Indeed, the property occupies close to half of a

recent prescribed-burn region.

The property is drained by Goat River and its tributaries,

the principal of which divides the grid and the property.

Goat River flows into the Missinaibi River which is part of

the Hudson Bay-James Bay watershed.

HISTORY

Following construction of the main railway near the turn of

the century, government geologists carried out early

examinations in the area. In 1923, gold was discovered by

loggers working 20 km due west of the property, near the

Algoma Central Railway in Hawkins Township. Mapping in the

vicinity was done by T.L. Gledhill for Ontario Department of

Mines in 1928.

Early mapping in Minnipuka Township was done by J.E. Maynard

in 1929. The north part of the township was examined during

Operation Kapuskasing in 1966, and the southern half during

Operation Chapleau in 1970. These activities were sponsored

by the Ontario government.

In 1979, Amax Mineral Exploration Ltd. flew an aeromagnetic

survey over the townships of Malls and Minnipuka. Follow-up

in 1981 consisted of ground checks, detail helicopter-borne

magnetic/electromagnetic surveys and drilling of 14 holes

across strong conductive zones. A small part of the property

was included in this investigation and one hole was drilled.

Around 1984 to 1986, large tracks of land were staked across

several townships including Minnipuka and the present

claims. During the winter of 1986-1987, H. Ferderber

Geophysics Ltd. of Val d'Or, Quebec flew the properties with

basic airborne magnetic and VLF electromagnetic equipment on

behalf of Golden Trio Minerals Ltd.

GEOLOGY

The general geology of the Oba Area consists o-F Archean

basement granites, and supracrustal sedimentary-volcanic

rocks in the form of narrow generally east-west-trending

belts. All the rocks are intruded by granitic stocks and

northeast an northwest-trending diabase dykes. This section

of the Precambrian Shield is at the northern edge of the

Wawa Subprovince of the Superior Province.

The northern half of Minnipuka and Walls Townships is

underlain by massive granitic rocks. The south half contains

two east-southeast-trending intercalated

volcanic-sedimentary belts both averaging 1.5 kilometre in

width and separated by 3 kilometres of partially foliated

and partially porphyritic granite.

Ekersval's Minnipuka property straddles the most northerly

of the two belts. The previously mentioned drilling in the

southern part of the gridded area, intersected a band of

sediments lying between the predominantly volcanic rocks to

the north and granites to the south.

SURVEY METHODS

Li necutti ng:

From a point situated approximately 1700 m north of Goat

Lake and 1000 m west of Goat River, the 0/0 point is to be

found. It was placed about 20 m west of a distinctive bend

in the access road near the centre of the property. The

00-baseline was extended easterly over 1300 m to the east

edge of the property and west for 2700 m to the

WalIs-Minnipuka township line. A 1000N tie-line was

established between 2700W and 200E as was a 850S tie-line

between 1100W and 1300E. Three minor tie-lines were

established at 1800N, SOON, and 1700S between 2500W and

1500W, 300E and 800E, and 500E and 1300E, respectively.

North-south lines were laid out at 100 m intervals and

extended between tie-lines or a few hundred metres beyond.

Altogether, 11.7 km of tie-line and baseline, and 85.25 km

of cross line were established with stations placed 25 m

apart.

Magnetic Survey:

The magnetic survey was conducted over the grid lines with a

Geometrics model G-816 proton precession magnetometer.

Readings were taken at 12.5 m intervals and corrected for

diurnal variations by differences obtained from observing

stations along the base line that had been read previously

in a series of closed loops.

Electromagnetic Survey:

The electromagnetic survey was conducted along the cross

lines with an APEX Parametrics Model MaxMin II horizontal

loop unit. Using 444 and 1777 hertz, observations were made

at 25 m intervals with a coil separation of 100 m.

RESULTS

Magnetic Survey:

Results of the magnetic survey are plotted and contoured on

the accompanying plan entitled 'Magnetic Survey' at a scale

of 1:5000. Most of the magnetic relief originates from a

series of sub-parallel bands that trend southeasterly across

the "property. Towards the southeast there are two large

magnetic bodies, equivalent in size to approximately one and

two claims respectively, which contain peaks nearing 10,000

gammas from a background of 1000. Low values ranging down to

300 gammas occur mainly on the north side of the anomalies,

indicating a southerly dip to the formations.

One of the most noticeable feature is the southeast-trending

line running across most of the property between the 100N

tie-line, at the township line, and the area of line 900E at

1175Sj undoubtedly a structural feature as certain conductors appear to be displaced along this line.

The presence of several crescent-shaped anomalies suggests

folding. This is especially evident in the central part of

the property, near line 1000W at 300N.

The southeasterly-trending dyke which leaves the grid at

900W on the 1800N tie-line appears to transect the entire grid and corresponds with a major contact running through

300W on the BOOS tie-line.

In the northeaster part of the grid, the 1000 gamma contour

appears to approximate the granite contact in this area.

Page 13: AFOREST-HLAVA EXPLC ERVICESLTD. - Ontario...AFOREST-HLAVA EXPLC ERVICESLTD. 42G04SW0206 2. 13548 MINNIPUKA P.O. Box 1163, TIMMINS, ONTARIO P4N7H9 REPORT ON GEOPHYSICAL SURVEYS ON THE

page 8

Electromagnetic Survey:

The results of the horizontal loop survey are plotted and

pro-filed on two accompanying maps entitled 'Maxtlin II H.E.M.

Survey, 1777 Hz' and 'MaxMin II H.E.M. Survey, 444 Hz' at

the appropriate scale. Interpretation and evaluation is

shown on the higher frequency survey while only the axes are

plotted on the plan of the 444 Hz survey.

Although 16 anomalies labelled "A" to "P" are shown on the

plan, only 15 are due to conductivity. Anomaly "P" is a zone

of positive in-phase responses usually caused by short-cable effect when traversing over steep cliffs or rugged

topography. Although the trend of the zone is some 30

degrees more northeasterly than the regional fabric, the

accompanying magnetics towards the western boundary are

supportive of a feature striking in this direction. Even

though the anomaly is not supported by airborne data, it may

warrant closer scrutiny, especially in the area of the sharp

magnetic anomaly on line 1800W at SOON.

page 9

CONCLUSIONS k RECOMMENDATIONS

With the exception of K, L, P and R, the conductive

anomalies generally belong to either a northerly belt or a

southerly belt which extend southeasterly across the

property. Magnetic association is generally closer, if not

direct, along the northerly belt, suggesting some pyrrhotite

mineralization.

Iron -formation was mapped along the Goat river where it

intersects the south zone. This may well be the cause of the

anomalies in this area.

Anomaly K is principally an out-of-phase response except -for

line 1800W, where there is an appreciable in-phase

component.

Based on the government claim map, there is evidence that

anomaly L possibly lies mainly outside the property

boundary.

Anomaly R is associated with a series of airborne responses

that are not completely covered by the surveys.

In order to investigate all the airborne anomalies on the

property, it is recommended that the work be extended south

across claims 930427 to 930429 and possibly 893069.

Respectfully submitted,

H. Z. Tittley, P.Eng.
