Benedetta Tagliabue is an architect.

Benedetta is from Milan and graduated from the University of Venice (IUAV) in1989. In 1991 she joined the studio of Enric Miralles in Barcelona and whereeventuallythey founded the studio Miralles Tagliabue EMBT.

During their collaboration they began projects such as the Scottish Parliament inEdinburgh, the Town Hall of Utrecht in Holland, the market and neighbourhoodof Santa Caterina, and their own house in the old town Barcelona, among others.

After the death of her husband and partner in 2000, Benedetta continued therunning of the offi ce Miralles Tagliabue EMBT as sole-principal, fi nishing themany projects that were still in progress and beginning other new ones.

Miralles Tagliabue EMBT today has offi ces in Barcelona and Shanghai, workingall over the world with a series of new projects in Europe, China and Taiwan.

Benedetta’s work includes a series of projects realised in Spain and around theworld, such as: the market and neighbourhood of Santa Caterina (1996-2005),Diagonal Mar Park(1997-2002), the head offi ce of Gas Natural in Barcelona(1996-2006), the new Campus of the University of Vigo in Spain. Projects inEurope and Asia inlsude: the new Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh (1998-2004),the Music School and public spaces ‘Hafencity’ in Hamburg (2002-2013), theTown Hall of Utrecht (1996-2000), the Spanish Pavilion of the Shanghai Expo2010, a garden in Xi’an in 2011, among others.

Among the most recent projects completed by the studio are the L’Oreal Academy in Barcelona, Social Housing in Barajas and Barcelona (2013), theAuditorium in Hamburg, the Plaza Ricard Vinyes de Lleida (2010), Camper stores in Sevilla, Barcelona and Washington, and the Italian Pavilion in the 2011 Venice Biennale.

Benedetta has been an invited professor at the Graduate School of Design in Harvard University in 2012 (Dunlop Chair), at Columbia University in New York in 2010 and in ETSAB Barcelona (2000-2009), she also lectures and participates in international juries and architecture forums across the world (MIT, GSD, AA, Berkeley, CCA, Venice Biennale etc) and regularly participates in debates across the media; radio, television, and publications.

Her work received the RIBA Sterling Prize in 2005, the National Prize of Spanish Architecture in 2006, the National Culture Prize in Catalonia in 2002, the Barcelona City Prize in 2005 and 2009, and the FAD awards in 2000, 2003, and 2007.

In 2009, Benedetta Tagliabue reveived the RIBA International Fellowshop for her particular contribution to British architecture and an honorary doctorate from Napier University in Scotland in 2005. Benedetta was also awarded the RIBA Jencks award in 2013.

In 2011, she opened the Enric Miralles Foundation which works with the objective of promoting experimental architecture following the spirit of her late husband and partner Enric Miralles.
