How we collectedinformation ?
We developed a base profile of each company,Including its ownership structure, its marketpresence by number of outlets, and its personnelresponsible for code compliance. We collected
publicly available data including annual reports, csrreports or similar, news releases and information ontheir websites, and between march and july 2010,interviewed people in each company for moreinformation. Internal documents generated by thecompanies themselves
Were not taken into consideration.

We then wrote to each company in the period Marchto May 2010 to request relevant public documents ithad produced that would assist us in evaluating itsreporting on labour rights issues in its supply chain.
We received only one response to our initial requestwith further information and/or comments on theresult. Once we had established a score for eachcompany, we sent each company their individualscorecard. We also wrote to the chief executive orchairperson of each company in July 2010andinvited them to submit additional informationfor final consideration. However, we received noresponse to this request.

METHODOLOGY
What we are ratingThe TRANSPARENCY REPORT CARD DOES NOT SEEK TO ASSESSWhat companies are doing in their supply chains;Only whether they are reporting on it or not. It RELIES
Solely on public materials released by the companiesThemselves. As THE FOCUS OFThe report is exclusively on supply chains, it doesNOT ASSESS THE WORKPLACE CONDITIONS OF MumbaiCompanies retail stores, merchandising departments
Or other aspects of workplace conditions over andBeyond factories. We recognise the limitations of this approach by onlyRelying on publicly-available reported information. We observe that, in many cases, companies reportsAnd websites will not fully reflect the current extentOf their activities.
