Welcome to the XV Encuentro de Economía Aplicada The XV Encuentro de Economía Aplicada (Applied Economics Meeting) will be held in A Coruña on June 7-8, 2012. This edition is organized by the department of Applied Economics II of the University of A Coruña, in collaboration with the Jean Monnet Group of Competition and Regional Development in the European Union (C+D). The Encuentros de Economía Aplicada, promoted by the Asociación Libre de Economía (AldE) and the Revista de Economía Aplicada (REA), are conceived as a channel to disseminate and discuss research work that deepen the knowledge of reality through the use of applied economic analysis. The main theme of the XV Encuentro is "New trends in welfare analysis." The current economic crisis has highlighted even more the role of welfare economics due to the different points of view between large economic areas such as Europe and the USA. The plenary lecture will be given by Prof. Bruno S. Frey (Warwick and Zürich) and will be entitled “Should Governments make People Happy?” In this edition, Applied Economics will publish a special issue with the plenary lecture and a selection of the best papers presented at the conference. The Scientific Committee had the opportunity to select 158 papers covering all areas. Unfortunately, space limitations meant that a number of fine papers did not make it onto the program. We gratefully acknowledge the support of our sponsors. Special thanks should be given to Fundación Barrié, which has sponsored the plenary lecture and the special issue of Applied Economics, as well as to the Spanish Ministry of Economics and Competitiveness and the Vice-rectorate for Research and Transfer of the University of A Coruña. Registration

Registration starts on Thursday June 7 from 9:00 until 13:00 at the Faculty of Economics (in front of the main entrance in the Ground Floor, see page 25) and continues from 15:30 until 17:30.

Registration opens at 9:00 on Friday June 8 and remains open until 13:00.

Name Badge

Your name badge is your security pass for entrance into the conference venues. We kindly request all conference participants to wear their name badge at all times. In particular, your badge will be checked for entrance into the plenary conference at Fundación Barrié and for entrance into the welcome cocktail at Aquarium Finisterrae. Separate tickets, received upon registration, are needed for admission to the lunches and the conference dinner.

Presentations

All presentations will be made by using data projectors. Please bring a USB key containing your presentation in PDF format (preferable) or Powerpoint 2003 format.

Editorials Session

McGraw-Hill and Pearson will have editorials desks in the entrance hall of the 2nd Floor (Planta 2) of the Faculty (see page 26). They will make a presentation on Friday 8 at 13:30 in Aula 2.4.

Lunches and coffee breaks

Lunches (self-service) and coffee breaks will take place at the restaurant/cafetería of the Faculty of Economics, at Floor –1 (see page 25).

Separate tickets, received upon registration, are needed for admission to the lunches and the conference dinner. You will be asked for them.
