Los miércoles, la plaza Virgen de la Peña muestra su cara más fl amenca. El cuadro de baile Azabache despliega sobre el escenario lo mejor de la tradición andaluza en este campo en una exhibición gratuita que enamora a vecinos y visitantes.

Each Wednesday, the Plaza Virgen de la Peña is fi lled with the sounds of fl amenco. The sight of the dance group Azabache presents a perfect picture on stage, the best of the Andalucian tradition in this fi eld. And what’s more, the show is free and is very popular with residents and visitors alike.

Si deseas conocer otras culturas aquí tienes una buena oportunidad ya que el Teatro Las Lagunas te brinda la posibilidad de viajar a África de la mano de 8 artistas del continente vecino. La inaguración de la muestra, el 3 de mayo, será por todo lo alto ya que se dedicará la jornada a dar a conocer los encantos de esa tierra desconocida para muchos.

A las 11 horas habrá una presentación del proyecto que dará paso, a las 19 horas, a un interesante espectáculo ‘Ritmo africano’ (el coste de la entrada al show tendrá un precio simbólico) de danza y percusión, además de una exhibición de lucha senegalesa. Para poner la guinda al pastel, se organizará a las 20.30 horas una degustación gastronómica.

If you want to get to know more about other cultures then you have a great opportunity to do so at the Las Lagunas Theatre with the possibility to travel to Africa at the hands of 8 artists from this neighbouring country.The inauguration of this display is the 3rd of May and it will be dedicated to the enchantments of this part of the world.

At 11am there will be a presentation of the project and at 7pm there will be an interesting dance and percussion performance entitled ‘African Rhythms’ (the cost of the entrance for this show is symbolic only). In addition to this exhibition there will be a staged Senegal fi ght. And just to put the cherry on the cake there will be a food tasting session at 8.30 pm.

‘ALIMENTARTE’‘De muy buen gusto’ es esta exposición colectiva que gira en torno al mundo de la gastronomía. Sus obras responden a los 18 artistas participantes en Arte Mijas 2010, la ruta de los talleres de estos creadores que, durante un día, nos abren las puertas de sus estudios.

La Casa Museo acoge esta muestra para la que cada uno de los creadores ha hecho una obra a propósito para la ocasión. Pinturas, dibujos, esculturas, fotografías,... encuentran en la restauración la temática de la muestra que se inaugura el 7 de mayo a las 20 horas y que podrás visitar hasta el 23 de mayo.

No te pierdas esta exhibición porque te dejará muy buen ‘sabor de boca’.

‘Tasteful’ is the word that best describes this collective show which centres around the world of gastronomy. 18 participating artists are responsible for the wonderful samples that will be displayed in ‘Arte Mijas 2010’. These creators will open their doors to the public and impart their knowledge and experience.The Mijas Folk Museum is hosting this show for the artists and the expo will include paintings, drawings, sculptures and photographs, ... restoring

‘La ruta del arte’. Así podríamos defi nir ‘Arte Mijas 2010’, que un año más, y ya van cuatro, nos abre las puertas de los talleres de los artistas que participan en esta actividad. Se trata de seguir el sendero creativo que nos lleva a los estudios abiertos al público. Son los de 18 artistas de Mijas que nos dejan ver por un día al año su íntimo y reservado rincón de trabajo.

María Amelung, Susse An-dersen, Alan Burden, Mary Eisman, Carmen Escalona, Eduardo Giacometti, Ana Goebels, Charlotte Gordon, Lisetta Hamer, Paffard Kea-tinge-Clay, Michéle Lehmann, Alfonso Marín, Antonio Merino, J. Jaime Mota, Peter Nielsen, Natalia Schiff, Anita Seifert y Joshua Van Den Eeden son los autores que este año nos in-vitan a conocer dónde y cómo elaboran sus obras.

Todos ellos cubren una amplia variedad técnica: pintura, acuarela, escultura, dibujo, fotografía, grabado, textil, cerámica, etc…

Además, este camino del arte que nos lleva de la Ermita de San Antón hasta el Barrio Santana, permite que podamos adquirir obras directamente de las manos de sus creadores.

‘The Path of Art’, this is how we can defi ne ‘Arte Mijas 2010’ now in its’ fourth year. Artists participating in this activity open the doors of their workshops and invite the public to see behind the scenes. These 18 artists in Mijas let us see for a day their studios and impart their expertise to visitors.

Mary Amelung, Susse Andersen, Alan Burden, Mary Eisman, Carmen Escalona, Eduardo Giacometti, Ana Goebels, Charlotte Gordon, Lisetta Hamer, Paffard Keatinge-Clay, Michele Lehmann, Alfonso Marín, Antonio Merino, J. Jaime Mota, Peter Nielsen, Natalia Schiff, Anita Joshua Seifert and Van Den Eeden are the authors that this year invite you to know where and how they produce their works.

All of them cover a wide variety of techniques: painting, watercolor, sculpture, drawing, photography, printmaking, textiles, ceramics, etc...

Also, this art route takes us from the Ermita de San Antón to the Barrio Santana, allowing you to acquire works directly from the hands of its creators.

EDUARDO GIACOMETTI

El artista invitado de este año es Peter Nielsen, un autor polifacético que ha ha vivido y expuesto en Long Island, New York; Santa Mónica, California; Surrey Londres y en la provincia de Málaga.

Trabaja en óleo, arcilla grabado y técnica mixta, y, con los años, Peter ha desarrollado un estilo muy personal que, a menudo, refl eja su ingenio y su sentido del humor.

Actualmente trabaja, sobre todo, en construcciones de arte, y sigue utilizando métodos y medios tradicionales.

Durante el fi n de semana de puertas abiertas de ‘Arte Mijas 2010’, su trabajo estará expuesto en el estudio de Michèle Lehmann.

Y para la muestra de ‘Alimentarte’ el creador participa con la obra ‘Génesis 1- 29’ un cuadro en tres dimensiones de técnica mixta en el que reinventa obrás clásicas.

The guest artist this year is Peter Nielsen, a versatile author who has lived and exhibited in Long Island, New York, Santa Monica, California, Surrey London and in the province of Málaga. He works in oil, clay, printmaking and mixed media, and, over the years, Peter has developed a personal style that often refl ects his wit and his sense of humor.

Currently he works mainly in the construction of art, and still uses traditional methods and means. During the open house weekend ‘Arte Mijas 2010’, his work will be shown in Michèle Lehmann’s study. And his ‘Food-Art’ sample involves work with ‘Genesis 1 to 29’ a painting in three dimensions in mixed media, reinventing the classics.

Peneque ‘El Valiente’ nos sumerge en una nueva aventura. Este famoso personaje nos invita a participar en una obra de títeres en la que nos trasladará al lejano Oriente. Allí, conocerá al Rey Simpatías y a su hija, la Princesa Linda, y se tropezará con el gran poder malévolo de un mago llamado Fu Man Chi que intentará deslumbrar al público y al propio Peneque. En el Palacio del Sol se desarrolla buena parte de esta historia, donde su cocinero, enviado por el mago, tratará de dormir al Rey con su ‘pucherín pucherete’.

El domingo 9 de mayo, a las 18 horas, en el Teatro Las Lagunas, toda la familia tiene una cita con este espectáculo dirigido por Antonio Pino y escrito por Miguel Pino, una leyenda viva del teatro de títeres creador del personaje Peneque, que se ha convertido en todo un clásico.

Peneque ‘The Brave’ takes us into a new adventure. This famous character invites us to participate in a puppet show in which we move to the Far East. There we will meet the King of Sympathy and his daughter, Princess Linda, and we will encounter the malevolent magician Fu Man Chi who is intent on dazzling the audience and at the same time, Peneque. Much of this tale develops in the Palacio del Sol, where the chef, sent by the magician, will try to put the King to sleep with his ‘pucherin stew’.

On Sunday May 9, at 6pm in the Las Lagunas Theatre, all of the family can see this show directed by Antonio Pino and written by Miguel Pino, a living legend of puppetry, creator of Peneque that has become a classic.

Mu Teatro trae al escenario de Las Lagunas su propuesta ‘Princesa Bari’. A través de la historia de esta princesa abandonada por sus padres al nacer debido a su sexo, reivindica la igualdad entre hombres y mujeres, con una nueva forma de escenifi cación donde se mezclan elementos del teatro occidental y oriental.

Mu Theatre will perform ‘Princesa Bari’ at the Las Lagunas Theatre. The play centres on the princess who was abandoned by her parents at birth because of her gender. It deals with equality between men and women, with a new form of staging where there are mixed elements of western and oriental theatre.

Students from the UP Las Lagunas handicrafts workshop fi nish their course with an exhibition of their very best work which has been carried out using multiple techniques. The display can be seen by the public from the 13th to the 19th of May in the Las Lagunas Cultural Centre.

Mijas vuelve a demostrar su lado más solidario. El Teatro Las Lagunas junto a un grupo de artistas locales quieren aportar su pequeño grano de arena y colaborar con una buena causa. Por ello se van a reunir para realizar un encuentro de bailes en el que lo tradicional se conjugue con las nuevas tendencias. El objetivo es ayudar a las personas damnifi cadas por los terremotos que han ocurrido en Haití y Chile.

Los artistas implicados en esta iniciativa pondrán en escena el “Baile de Nuestra Tierra”, un espectáculo donde actuarán en una primera parte Remedios Fernández, Ana Mª Tineo, Juan Antonio Pérez, Rafi Cuevas, Víctor Rojas, Mª José Bueno, Evelyn Bravo y sus respectivos grupos. En la segunda parte del espectáculo, el baile de salón será el protagonista con la pareja formada por Mª Jesús y Juan, el Grupo de Lana Dance, el Taller Rea Tango y el fl amenco de Antonio de Verónica. Los alumnos del taller de pintura de la UP de Las Lagunas mostrarán sus mejores trabajos tras un largo año de aprendizaje. Los pupilos de las profesoras Cristina Aguilar y Lidia González expondrán del 25 al 31 de mayo y la inauguración de la muestra tendrá lugar el día 25, a las 20 horas. Pequeños maestros pero con mucho arte entre sus manos.

The pupils of the Las Lagunas UP painting workshop will show their best works after a year of learning. Cristina Aguilar and Lidia González’s students will exhibit from the 25th to the 31st of May and the opening of the exhibition will take place on the 25th at 8pm. Young maestros maybe, but they have much art between their hands.

Mijas demonstrates its solidarity again. The Las Lagunas Theatre together with a group of local artists wanted to contribute in their own way to a good cause. They are going to meet to show a series of dances in which traditional styles mix with new styles. The aim is to help the people that have been harmed by the earthquakes in Haiti and Chile. The artists involved in this initiative will perform “Dance of Our Earth”, a spectacle where Remedios Fernández, Ana Mª Tineo, Juan Antonio Pérez, Rafi Cuevas, Víctor Rojas, Mª José Bueno, Evelyn Bravo and their respective groups will take care of the fi rst part of the show. El Club de fotografía “Friends in Focus” ha organizado en colaboración con el Ayuntamiento de Mijas una muestra fotográfi ca para el próximo 18 de mayo que permanecerá expuesta hasta el 14 de junio. La exposición tendrá como escenario el Patio de Las Fuentes del Ayuntamiento de Mijas. En total se mostrarán 37 fotos en formato 40 x 50 cm tomadas en un amplio reportaje que el club realizó el pasado año en el Festival Internacional de Mijas.

Los miembros de este club son un grupo de amigos extranjeros afi ncados en Mijas entusiastas de la fotografía. Para ellos, esta zona reúne todos los requisitos necesarios para desarrollar su principal afi ción y divertirse: sol, playa y luminosidad.

El Club Friends in Focus se reúne cada dos semanas los martes en Fuengirola y suelen organizar un tour fotográfi co al mes por lugares de interés. Para más información pueden contactar con ellos por mail: [email protected].

Photography club ‘Friends in Focus’ have organised, in collaboration with the Mijas Town Council, a photographic display starting on the 18th of May and open to the public until the 14th of June.

The exhibition will be in the Patio de Las Fuentes in the Mijas Town Hall. There will be a total of 37 photos in format 40 by 50cm illustrating varying scenes that the club members captured last year at the Mijas International Festival. Club members comprise a group of foreigners who are photography enthusiasts and have an affection for Mijas.

Don’t miss the twenty fourth edition of the ‘Villa de Mijas’ Mile. It will be on the 1st of May at 11am. The starting shot will be at the Virgen de la Peña square. Kick Boxing returns to Mijas again. The Las Lagunas City Sports Centre is the venue for this new contact sport in which Spain contests the Spanish Professional Title.

On May 15th from eight in the afternoon, we will be able to watch eight mijeño fi ghters from three categories: 60, 70, and more that 100 kilos.

El próximo 29 de mayo, el pabellón de Las Cañadas de Las Lagunas acoge la fi nal del campeonato provincial sub 11 de badminton, una cita que clasifi cará a los ganadores para disputar el torneo regional que se celebrará este año en Rota, Cádiz. A la cita en campo mijeño acudirán jugadores de todos los municipios de la provincia. Entre los participantes, se encuentra Javier Vilaplana, de 9 años de edad, que representará a Mijas con bastantes probabilidades de victoria, pues el año pasado, ya fue segundo en esta misma prueba y primero en categoría de dobles. Su objetivo este año es conseguir una muy buena posición en el regional.

El campeonato se celebrará el próximo 29 de mayo desde las 10 de la mañana hasta las 17 horas.

One of the participants is 9-year-old Javier Vilaplana who will represent Mijas, last year he came second in the same test and fi rst in the doubles category. For the assembly of the May Cross on the morning of Friday 7th the members have a special dinner at 9pm and this fair is celebrated at la Loma de la Alqueria. On Saturday, the Mijas U.P. Dance Group and `Andalucian Rythmn’ will provide the evenings entertainment. And on Sunday, from 12:30pm there will be a performance from the Las Lagunas U.P. la Fiesta Infantil with the painting competition. El repique de campanas anuncia a las 10 horas el comienzo de esta fi esta, organizada por los Mayordomos de San Antón, en honor a San Isidro Labrador en la que no faltarán los juegos populares y la gastronomía típica. A las 12.30 horas se celebrará la misa en honor al santo y, tras ésta, se repartirá gazpacho gratis a todos los asistentes y se abrirá la barra. A partir de las 16 horas, habrá juegos populares que darán paso a la música y al baile, a partir de las 18 horas.

They will adorn it in collaboration with the brotherhood of the sweet name of Jesús Nazareno, our Lady of the sorrows and John the Baptist. Inside of its programming for this year, the Peña Flamenca del Sur has dedicated a day to pay homage to its female members, including the wives of male members. It is the fi rst time that they have organised this event which will be celebrated on Saturday the 15th of May, at the Peña, in Fuengirola street (La Cala), from 10.30pm. For the occasion, those participating for the homage will receive a thankyou in the form of a fl oral gift and during the evening there will be entertainment from a malagueño fl amenquito group that will delight the audience with rumbas and sevillana. Los laguneros se preparan en mayo para homenajear a su patrona. Será el próximo 30 de mayo en la romería que se celebra todos los años en honor a la Virgen de la Paz.

Los actos comenzarán en torno a las 10.30 horas en la parroquia de San Manuel, donde se ofi ciará una misa. Tras la liturgia, los vecinos partirán en romería hasta el parque El Esparragal acompañando a la Virgen de la Paz, que irá ataviada con una saya blanca y con un velo del mismo color.

Para velar por la seguridad del evento, el Ayuntamiento desplegará un dispositivo especial formado por Policía Local, Cruz Roja y Protección Civil.

La llegada al parque está prevista en torno al mediodía. Allí habrá servicio de bar, música en vivo, concurso de carretas, actividades ecuestres y juegos populares, todo ello organizado por la Hermandad de Jesús Vivo. Además, el Ayuntamiento tiene previsto ofrecer una gran paella, para unas 1.200 personas aproximadamente.

Otro de los momentos tradicionales que también se cumplirá en 2010 será el regalo que otorgará el alcalde a la Virgen en forma de ofrenda en nombre del Consistorio.

The laguneros prepare them-selves during May to pay homa-ge to their patron. This special day is celebrated on the 30th of May with a romería that takes place every year in honou of the Virgin of Peace.

The acts will begin around 10,30 am in the San Manuel parish church, where a mass will be celebrated. After the liturgy, residents will leave with the romería until they reach the Esparragal park accompanied by the Virgin of Peace, that is adorned with a white sash and a veil of in the same colour.

In order to ensure by the security of this event, the Mijas Town Council will have a special envoy formed by Local Police, the Red Cross and Civil Protection.

Arrival to the park should be around noon. There there will be a bar, live music, ecuestrian activities, karting competitions, and popular games, all organized by the Brotherhood of the Living Jesus. In addition, the Town Council will offer a grand paella, for 1,200 approximately people.

Another traditional moment that will also be marked for 2010 will be the gift that the Mayor grants to the Virgin, in the form of an offering in name of the Consistory.

CIOMijas oferta una serie de seminarios de cocina y cata destinados a las personas que deseen aprender a disfrutar del arte culinario y el marida-je. Iniciación a la cata de vinos dulces, blancos, tintos o de cavas se suman a seminarios dedicados a la cocina japone-sa, italiana, malagueña o de tapas y pinchos, brindando a los participantes un amplio abanico de recetas y caldos, así como las claves para su correcta combinación en una misma mesa.

Los seminarios, dirigidos por grandes profesionales de la restauración, darán comien-zo el próximo 21 de mayo con ‘Iniciación a la cata de vinos dulces españoles’ y fi nalizarán el 9 de julio con ‘Cocina tradi-cional malagueña’.

From Monday through to Friday, clients of the El Jar-din de La Cala restaurant will be able to choose from ‘Menu CIOMIJAS Tasting’ or ‘Sabor del Dia’ , besides enjoying the specialities of the season.

Participants will be able to enjoy a lunch - for two or more people - made up of six spe-cial dishes with a magnifi cent Ribera del Duero for only 29 euros (IVA included), whereas those that prefer a less so-phisticated type of food have the possibility of tasting a meal of the day created and served by the pupils of the centre at a very economical price of 15 euros per person.

El Centro Andaluz de Forma-ción Integral de las Industrias del Ocio (CIOMijas) propone en estos tiempos difíciles menús adaptados a todos los bolsillos.
