Interaction between the Campus and its Surroundings Main Objectives to be achieved I. To increase the number of students going on to postgraduate studies from 13% to 20% II. To double the number of residential places on Campus Carlos III in Getafe III. To develop the second phase of the Parque Cientfico in Legans IV. To increase the research capacity of the University as a whole by supporting the strategic lines. V. To promote a sustainable interurban campus; this will serve as a dynamic axis for the southern area of the Autonomous Region of Madrid VI. To complete the process of adaptation to the principals of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) Actions I. A new building for the School of Graduate Studies II. A new student residence III. Completion of the second phase of the Parque Cientfico IV. Attracting world class faculty from other countries and creating new infrastructures V. Adapting the Campus in order to develop sustainability and accessibility VI. Modifying infrastructures to comply with the principals of the EHEA Final Evaluation 2. The number of residents on the Getafe campus was 347 in the 2009/2010 academic year and 678 in the 2014/15 academic year, an increase of 95.3% 1. The number of postgraduate students has increased from 2,674 in the 2009/10 academic year to 3,718 in the 2014/15 academic year, rising from13% to 19.6% The six objectives proposed have been achieved 3. The second phase of the Parque Cientfico was finished with the completion of the building in July 2012; it houses the Business Incubator and the Joint Airbus/UC3M Center 4. The research capacity of the University has increased, both in terms of scientific publications, and acquisition of research resources. The number of publications in journals listed in the JCR has increased from 598 in 2009 to 799 in Among them, those in reviews published in the first quartile have gone up from 244 in 2009 to 363 in Acquisition of European project funding has grown from 1.15 million euros in 2009 to million euros in 2013 Final Evaluation The six objectives proposed have been achieved 5. In the last five years, Campus Carlos III has increased its sustainability and has achieved platinum certification from Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) for the design and construction of the School of Graduate Studies and has reinforced its relationships with the institutions and companies within its group 6. Universidad Carlos III de Madrid was the first Spanish university to transfer all its qualifications to the European Higher Education Area These objectives have been achieved through realization of the following actions: 1. Opening the Carmen Martin-Gaite building on the Getafe campus in September 2013 2. Opening the Gregorio Peces-Barba student residence in September 2013 3. Opening the second phase of the Parque Cientfico in September 2012 4. The Chairs of Excellence programs of postdoctoral and 4U doctoral stays developed within the framework of Campus Carlos III have enabled incorporation of 78 world-class faculties into the Universitys activities. These programs have led to Campus Carlos III establishing CONEX (Connecting Excellence to UC3M) with the objective of attracting further talent. We have created the departments of Biomedical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering, and their corresponding laboratories in the new Juan Benet II building on the Leganes campus. The Department of Social Sciences and the Joint Social Sciences Institute Carlos III-Juan March have also been created 5. Campus Carlos III has adapted to sustainable development and accessibility following the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan for Accessibility 6.
