How did it Get there?• Wicker Park has been a part of the Chicago

district since 1837• It became a large town after the Rolling Steel Mill

Works was established there in 1857 and there was a large population of Irish immigrants who settled

• It was a place for the wealthy. Notable residents: Pritzkers, Uihleins, Crowns, Carl Laemmle, Michael Todd, Saul Bellows, and Nelson Algren.

• There are two distinct growth periods. From the mid 1800’s to 1929 and from 1930 to 1975.

What is Wicker park?• It is a neighborhood in the West Park

Community• Wicker Park was created after the

Chicago fire, and that influenced the wealthier families to have mansions made out of brick and stone to prevent their houses from easily catching on fire.
