From the Pastor’s Desk… With Palm Sunday, in a dramatic and poignant way, begins the journey of Christ to Calvary. His entrance to Jerusalem is clothed or "disguised" as triumph. The shouts of "Hosanna" by the people expressed their welcome to an expected Messiah. A Messiah who according to their criteria would free them from their oppression and from the political domination of the Roman Empire. With exuberant shouts to the "Son of David" they showed their approval to the Messiah who fulfilled their expectations. The same people who received him with ovations and cheers as a king also accompanied him in his procession to the cross with death cries. With the same intensity with which they raised their Palms at the entrance to Jerusalem, they expressed their disapproval in the praetorian by shouting "crucify him", calling Jesus to his condemnation. The passion of our Lord Jesus Christ represents ultimately the ultimate humiliation of himself as a man and as God, although the people did not recognize it. The physical cruelty, the desolation, the loneliness and the feeling of betrayal was expressed deeply in the words of Jesus: "My God ... Why have you abandoned me?" Even so the words of the prophet Isaiah describe the attitude of Christ as that of the obedient servant that does not what he wants but what he has to do for the salvation of the world, taken like a sheep to the slaughter. Even so, with the eyes of faith, we see a Christ that the more he is humbled in his humanity, the more he shines in his divinity, for the love of humanity. Remember that the one who enters triumphantly to Jerusalem will be passed as a mere object, from hand to hand: from the hands of the soldiers to Caiaphas, from the hands of Caiaphas to Pontius Pilate, from his hands to Herod, from the hands of Herod again to those of Pontius and from his hands to the people who will destine him to the hands of death. What will be the response of Christ? From his hands will come eternal life and hope to see him again in the glory of heaven, where we will hear songs of ¨hosanna¨ for an eternity and for the right reasons, not praising the Messiah they wanted but the Messiah we need for salvation.

Del Escritorio del Párroco… Con el domingo de Ramos, de forma dramática y punzante, comienza la jornada de Cristo al Calvario. Su entrada a Jerusalén está revestida o ¨disfrazada¨ de triunfo. Los gritos de ¨Hosanna¨ por parte del pueblo expresaban su bienvenida a un Mesías esperado. Un Mesías que según sus criterios los liberaría de su opresión y de la dominación política del imperio romano. Con exuberantes gritos al ¨Hijo de David¨

manifestaban su aprobación al Mesías que llenaba sus expectativas. La misma gente que lo recibió con ovaciones y vítores de rey también lo acompañó en su procesión hacia la cruz con clamores de muerte. Con la misma intensidad con la cual elevaron sus Ramos en la entrada de Jerusalén, expresaban su desapruebo en el pretorio al gritar ¨crucifícalo¨, llamando a Jesús a su condena. La pasión de nuestro Señor Jesucristo representa ultimadamente la humillación máxima de él mismo como hombre y como Dios, aunque el pueblo no lo supo reconocer. La crueldad física, la desolación, la soledad y el sentimiento de traición fue expresado profundamente en las palabras de Jesús: ¨Dios mío… ¿Por qué me has abandonado?¨ Aun así las palabras del profeta Isaías describen la actitud de Cristo como la del siervo obediente que hace no lo que quiere sino lo que tiene que hacer por la salvación del mundo, llevado como una oveja al matadero. Aun así, con los ojos de la fe, vemos a un Cristo que mientras más es humillado en su humanidad, más brilla su divinidad, por amor a la humanidad. Recordemos que el que entra triunfante a Jerusalén será pasado como un mero objeto, de mano en mano: de las manos de los soldados a Caifás, de las manos de Caifás a Poncio Pilatos, de sus manos a Herodes, de las manos de Herodes nuevamente a las de Poncio y de las manos del mismo al pueblo quien lo destinará a las manos de la muerte. ¿Cuál será la respuesta de Cristo? De sus manos vendrá la vida eterna y la esperanza de volver a verlo en la gloria de cielo, donde volveremos a escuchar cantos de ¨hosanna¨ por toda una eternidad y por las razones correctas, no alabando al Mesías que querían sino al Mesías que necesitamos para la salvación.

Tenebrae Service: Tuesday, March 27 The purpose of this service was to remember the somber events that occurred in Jesus' life from the exuberant entrance into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday through the night of Jesus' burial on Good Friday. Communion is often included in a Tenebrae service, as well. The most distinctive aspect of the service is the use of a Tenebrae "hearse," a holder for several lit candles. The flames of these candles are extinguished one by one as Scripture readings are shared to tell the story of Holy Week. This gradual descent into gloom is a representation of Jesus' increasing sorrow as the events of Passion Week unfolded. After the last verse is read, the last candle is put out, and the room is plunged into darkness. Please join us!

Servicio de Tinieblas: Martes, 27 de Marzo El propósito de este servicio era recordar los sombríos acontecimientos que ocurrieron en la vida de Jesús desde la exuberante entrada en Jerusalén el Domingo de Ramos hasta la noche del entierro de Jesús el Viernes Santo. La Comunión también es incluida a menudo en un servicio de Tinieblas. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS NOTICIAS DEL CATECISMO SPIRIT DAY 2018

Sunday, Saint Aloysius served as host parish for the Vicariate III Spirit Day Confirmation Retreat. This was the first time the retreat took place at our parish, and it was a major success. We wish to thank the nearly 200 participants from six different parishes, as well as all the volunteers for their valuable contributions!

DÍA DEL ESPÍRITU 2018 El domingo, San Luis Gonzaga sirvió como parroquia anfitriona para el Retiro de Confirmación del Día del Espíritu del Vicariato III. BETHLEHEM ARTS Representative of the Catholic Christians Community from Jerusalem and Bethlehem in the Holy Land are with us today. To display their olive wood hand crafted religious figurines and articles. The Catholic Christian Community in the Holy Land depends mainly on olive wood carving and tourism. Due to the political conflict

and the lack of tourism there, many Christians were forced to leave the Holy Land. By displaying and selling these religious articles, Christian communities of the Holy Land are kept financially alive. Please plan on looking at these beautifully hand carved and crafted religious goods which will be displayed in the vestibule of the Church after each mass on the weekend of March 24th and 25th. ARTESANÍAS DE BELÉN Representantes de la comunidad de los Cristianos Católicos de Jerusalén y Belén en la Tierra Santa, están aquí hoy para vender sus artículos hechos de madera de olivo tallada a mano. La comunidad Cristiana Católica en la Tierra Santa dependen principalmente de estas artesanías religiosas talladas de madera y el turismo.
