The Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA) is an oppor-tunity for each of us to unite in faith as a Catholic community and to answer the needs of those most vulnerable — the hungry, the homeless, the unemployed, the distressed, the unchurched, our children and our elderly through crucial and es-sential ministries and services. The Annual Catho-lic Appeal has been conducted as both a parish and diocesan effort, which provides the financial support to provide for the educational, human, pastoral, and spiritual, needs of our brothers and sisters in our diocese. The vision of our bishop Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio and Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello, Vicar for Development, is to continue expanding Dioce-san programs to support our parishes, Catholic Charities, Faith Formation, Scholarship Assis-tance, Migration Services, Vocations, Retired Priests, and Chaplaincies. The Annual Catholic Appeal supports the Diocese and its parishes in three ways: Provides an enhanced source of funding in sup-port of people through ministries, programs, and services throughout our community. Offers parishioners a chance to directly provide for the work of the Church. Grants each parish an annual opportunity to raise funds for local initiatives and projects. One hundred percent (100%) of all funds received over the parish assigned ACA goal is returned to the parish.

SECOND COLLECTION THIS WEEKEND: BLACK AND INDIAN MISSIONS This national collection has been taken up for 131 years now. It helps build the Church in Afri-can-American, Native American and Alaska Native communities from coast to coast. Religious edu-cation programs and human-service ministries depend on this generosity to spread the Gospel of Jesus by helping meet unmet needs. Please lend some support in today’s second collection.

a las7:30 pm

Seminario para la Primera Comunion: Este miercoles (24 de febrero) a las 7:30 pm en el sa-lon de abajo. El niño/la niña y al menos un padre deben estar presentes.

We are accepting requests from parishioners who would like a Summary of Accountable Contribu-tions Letter for 2015 tax purposes. Only those re-questing this information will receive this letter. Call or visit the rectory office. Our parish survives through the generosity of those who make systematic and sacrificial contribu-tions of financial support to St. Raphael’s. We are grateful.

THIS ‘N THAT 1. Reminder: pledge payments to the Generations of Faith Capital Campaign should be made out

to THE CATHOLIC FOUNDATION OF BROOKLYN AND QUEENS. Cash payments can be made at St. Raphael’s and we will issue and exchange check, but please clearly indicate it’s for the Generations of Faith campaign. (Tax receipts for the Capital Campaign pledges and gifts are issued directly by them and not our parish. You should have received this by now for the 2015 tax year.

2. Father Jerry’s “Magic with a Message” program (The Magic of Forgiveness in Jesus) will be pre-sented this coming Tuesday evening at St. Patrick’s Church in Fort Hamilton. St. Raphael’s is the beneficiary of the performance.

FIRST COMMUNION MEETING:

and at least one parent must be present.

THREE THOUGHTS AS LENT CONTINUES...

1. "Are you capable of risking your life for someone? Do

it for Christ." -- Pope John Paul II

2. "Lent comes providentially to reawaken us, to shake

us from our lethargy." -- Pope Francis

3. "As Lent is the time for greater love, listen to Jesus' thirst...'Repent and believe' Jesus tells us. What are we to repent? Our indifference, our hardness of heart. What are we to believe? Jesus thirsts even now, in your heart and in the poor -- He knows your weakness. He wants only your love, wants only the chance to love you." -- Blessed Teresa of Calcutta
