Student Support Services
What is Student Support Services?•Student Support Services (SSS) is a grant
funded program through the US Department of Education and is one of the TRIO programs
Who is eligible to participate in SSS?
Any undergraduate student who is attending Lamar University and is a citizen or legal US resident can be considered for the SSS program if he or she is any or all of the following:•A student with a disability•A student from a low-income background•A student who is first generation (neither
parent graduated college with a bachelors or higher degree)
What are the benefits of participating in SSS?
Services that SSS offers includes:• Free weekly tutoring for the whole semester (must be
requested and depends on availability)• Access to a computer lab reserved for SSS participants• Specialized advising that focuses on all student needs
from help with financial aid and scholarships, to assistance in preparing for your career and graduate school
• Use of our Tools for Success, including scantrons, text and reference books, laptops, calculators, voice recorders and more
• Free trips to museums, musicals and other events to broaden access to varied cultures
What else do I need to know about SSS?
•160 students are served by SSS each semester
•If interested in the program, stop by our office for an application
•Qualified applicants will be interviewed
