PHILOSOPHY The Saskatchewan Nurses Foundation believes that: all people, at some time in their lives, will be recipients of nursing care; recipients of nursing care, and nurses themselves, desire nursing care to include the use of

current knowledge based on research; society benefits when nurses are highly knowledgeable, competent professionals; society wishes to share with individual nurses and employers the responsibility to

contribute financially to the efforts of nurses to enhance their competence through education and research;

the Foundation is an effective mechanism through which society can contribute financially

to the education of nurses; and the Foundation has the privilege and responsibility to make its work known throughout

Saskatchewan, interprovincially and nationally.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT The year 2012-2013 has been a time of renewal for the Saskatchewan Nurses Foundation We have seen a change on the Board which brought about a new learning curve. With everyone being busier (aren’t we all these days) it was harder to organize meetings and teleconference became a method of meeting. With the change in eligibility for recept of bursaries to include short courses & CNA certification we have seen an increase in applications. This past year we gave out five bursaries for courses, five for masters degrees, two for doctorates and one for CNA certification. Our membership base to increase with our presence at SUN and SRNA annual meetings where we run a challenge for “most members”. The Foundtion continues to accept on-line contributions through www.canadahelps.org. As well, the option to use Paypal to purchase SNF memberships online through the SNF website continues. We are continuing our work on the SNF history. The Board received the resignation from Carol Ready, one of our public representatives. On behalf of the Board I want to thank Carol for her contributions during her time. I would also like to thank our ED Robin Evans and all members of the Board fo Directors for their efforts to ensure SNF continues as a successful Foundation. NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE REPORT The committee met by teleconference and names were submitted by email. Lynda Kushnir Pekrul has completed her term and is not eligible for re-election. Three nurse members and on public representative have let their names stand for election to the Board of Directors for a 2 year term. SNF FACTS

Saskatchewan Nurses Foundation SNF was founded in 1981 through an amendment to the Registered Nurses Act. It was registered as a Non-Profit Corporation on September 15, 1988. The SNF Bursary Program has been developed to:

1. Foster excellence in nursing. 2. Further the contribution of the nursing profession to society.

The Fund The Foundation was launched with a $50,000.00 gift from the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association. Individual and organizational gifts are sought each year to build the fund. Eligibility To receive assistance, individuals must be current members of the SRNA, have completed the equivalent of at least one year of experience as a registered nurse in Saskatchewan, and be pursuing a degree program or clinical course judged applicable to nursing. Upon completion of studies, bursary recipients must spend at least one year working in the field of nursing in Saskatchewan for every $1000.00 awarded. The Need is Great Nurses are the largest health care profession, numbering close to 9000 in Saskatchewan. The changing environment in which health care is delivered, the knowledge explosion and advances in technology together impact on the need for continuing education for nurses. This continuing education will contribute to safe competent nursing care for people of Saskatchewan. Because the demand exceeds funds available, SNF continues to seek donations to enable it to meet its objectives. Bursaries Awarded From 1981 to 2013 SNF awarded 416 bursaries valued at $384,242.50 to Saskatchewan nurses. In addition 20 Trauma Nurse Core Course Bursaries each valued at $150.00 were awarded.

12.0 Call to order

The meeting was called to order by President Glenn Donnelly at 1705. Because quorum was not attained, any decision items will be sent to the general membership for ratification.

13.0 Approval of the Agenda

The agenda was approved as circulated by Janet Hammond, seconded by Signy Klebeck.

14.0 Reading and approval of minutes from May 9, 2011 Annual meeting

Moved by Larry Christie, seconded by Sandra Bassendowski that the May 9, 2011 annual meeting minutes be approved. Carried.

All reports were considered under one motion. Moved by Tracy Zambory, seconded by Signy Klebeck that the President, Awards committee, communications and Nominations committee reports be accepted as printed in the annual report. Carried.

17.0 Auditors Report and Financial Statement

The auditor’s report and financial statement were reviewed by Robin Evans. Moved by Tracy Zambory, seconded by Larry Christie that the auditors report and financial statement be accepted as printed in the Annual Report. Carried.

18.0 Election of Directors

Because there was not quorum at the meeting, there will be an email vote sent out to members to vote on candidates for election to the Board of Directors. Addendum: Cindy Peternelj-Taylor and Janet Hammond were elected by acclamation.

19.0 Appointment of Auditors

Moved by Janet Hammond, seconded by Sandra Bassendowski that Milton and Associates be retained as the auditor for 2012. Carried.

20.0 Other Business

Sandra’s book has just been published. All proceeds from the book go to a named SNF bursary. In Saskatoon, books are available at the College of Nursing, University of Saskatchewan; in Regina they are available from SNF or from Sandra.

The spring banquet and auction will be held in Saskatoon Apr 13 at the Saskatoon Inn.

21.0 Next Meeting

The next annual meeting will be held at the call of the chair before the end of June, 2013. The preference of those in attendance was to return to a face to face meeting.
