Es la hermosa historia de amor de una mujer tal vez simple, común, que cumplía cotidianamente con su

deber según los parámetros de aquellos tiempos y que dio la vida en fidelidad a dos grandes amores: los

amores de esposa y madre. Se hizo carne en ella como UNA PROFECÍA  la que después fuera la admirable

definición de Sarmiento: “La madre es para el hombre la personificación de la providencia”.

Como esposa fue la mujer fuerte, leal, el puerto seguro, la guarda de la honra de su esposo, fiel a sus

convicciones y a su amor, sin claudicaciones ni límites temporales, su límite fue la muerte. Cumplió con la

promesa de fidelidad que hizo ante Dios al casarse, emblemático ejemplo para estos tiempos de valores y de

mujer de familia, que cumple con la vida, de uniones que solo se rompen con la muerte. Para que entre las

Otra version cuenta que en el transcurso del año 1835 un criollo de apellido Bustos fue reclutado en una leva para las montoneras de Facundo Quiroga y llevado por la fuerza a La Rioja. Su mujer, María Antonia Deolinda Correa, desesperada porque su esposo iba enfermo, tomó a su hijo y siguió las huellas de la montonera. 

Luego de mucho andar -cuenta la leyenda- y cuando estaba al borde de sus fuerzas, sedienta y agotada, se dejó caer en la cima de un pequeño cerro. Unos arrieros que pasaron luego por la zona, al ver animales de carroña que revoloteaban se acercaron al cerro y encontraron a la madre muerta y al niño aún con vida, amamantándose de sus pechos. Recogieron al niño, y dieron sepultura a la madre en las proximidades del Cementerio Vallecito, en la cuesta de la sierra Pie de Palo. 

Al conocerse la historia, comenzó la peregrinación de lugareños hasta la tumba de la "difunta Correa". Con el tiempo se levantó un oratorio en el que la gente acercaba ofrendas.

Las travesuras de la Pericana consisten en tirar piedras en la espalda y terrones a los sombreros de los jinetes, en espantar a las bestias de montar de los paisanos en caminos y sendas. Los jinetes caen al suelo y los caballos huyen despavoridos.

Con los niños usa iguales travesuras y además les silba y los llama con señas y ademanes ofreciéndoles frutos silvestres. Algunos cuentan que a veces, los niños extraviados no vuelven más

Se cree que se alimenta de chicos no bautizados, excrementos y de desperdicios que encuentra en los basurales de las estancias. Se caracteriza por el fulgor de la mirada ("echa fuego por los ojos"). Es inmune a las armas de fuego, y solo se lo puede herir con un arma blanca. En presencia de su propia sangre recobra la forma humana, pero se convierte en enemigo mortal de quien descubrió su secreto y no se detiene hasta matarlo.

El lobizon ataca y puede traspasar el mal. No lo transmite mordiendo, sino pasando entre las piernas de alguien. A partir de allí la victima se convierte en lobizon, y el anterior escapa al maleficio. Si bien tiene forma perruna, los demás perros le ladran constantemente, si bien no atinan a morderle.
