PINCH OF SALT combina atractivas historias y personajes con contenidos del área de Science del currículo de Educación Primaria.

El léxico y la gramática de estos textos están adaptados al nivel de conocimientos de los alumnos de Segundo y Tercer Ciclo, de modo que los libros no solo ayudan a profundizar en los contenidos del área de Science, sino también a mejorar el aprendizaje de la lengua inglesa.

Además, sus numerosas ilustraciones hacen más amena la lectura y contribuyen a fomentar la imaginación de los lectores.

LA AUTORAAna Alonso, escritora, poeta y profesora, es la autora tanto de los libros de la colección como del Plan Lector que la acompaña. ‘She would destroy it. There could be important things in there. Things that explain why Marc disap-peared, and where he went. Things that could help my father.’

Bert nods silently and he makes no more objec-tions. He follows Enid through the maze of pots and bottles of Lucius’s lab.

‘Enid, I don’t want to be so pessimistic,’ he says, ‘but I don’t think your father’s problem can be solved with a magic potion.’

‘A scientific potion, you mean. The secret lab isn’t a magic one. It is a science lab.’

‘Whatever. I don’t believe there is a potion to cure people when they feel sad and bored. The king isn’t going to leave the palace just because of a potion.’

‘I know. He needs to get his self-confidence back. It won’t be easy to convince him to go out. He doesn’t want to leave his books, his dog or his favourite pillow.’

‘He could take all those things with him.’‘He is afraid of travelling, but he must go out.

He must face reality. The kingdom needs him to do his work. The ministers are worried, and Malena is waiting in happy expectation. Old witch!’

‘And you expect to find a solution in an old abandoned lab. Wonderful!’

‘No. Marc told me about it. I was very little at the time. He used to tell me stories about science be-fore I went to sleep.’

‘And did he tell you about this lab, too?’‘No, he didn’t. I discovered the lab myself.

Marc always kept a small diary in the pocket of his lab coat. While he told me those stories, he some-times took the diary out of his pocket to look at his notes. When Marc disappeared, I asked for his lab coat. I found the diary, and inside, on a folded sheet of paper, were the explanations about this lab. They were written back-to-front. It looked like a foreign language. But then I found the trick, and I could read them easily.’

‘And here we are.’‘Yes.’

Enid leans over an iron device in a glass showcase. The machine has a big wheel and some pipes.

‘Look at the plaque. This is a model of a steam engine. It could be the solution we’re looking for.’

‘The solution for what?’‘Yes, the solution for what?’ repeats someone

behind them.

Enid and Bert turn to look at the secret lab en-trance. Lucius is there, looking them up and down.

Under his black pointed hat, his eyes are burn-ing with fury.

‘You are..., you are...’‘Disgraceful?’ suggests Bert, seeing that Lucius

cannot find the word.
