Fr. Joe’s Journal El Diario del Padre Joe Jesus calms the seas and again tells us not be afraid. We all at times have a fear of the un-known. Sometimes we can fear what has harmed us in the past. Storms on bodies of water can be terrify-ing. The apostles were terrified by the storm and by what they thought was a ghost. Peter became afraid when he moved far beyond his comfort zone. Jesus offers the apostles and Peter comfort and thus re-minds us of his divinity. He can conquer death, one of our great fears. So he can conquer the wind. Fear actually can serve us if we use it to act. We can ei-ther confront or flee when danger threatens. Fleeing is not always bad when it is only way to fight anoth-er day. Jesus reminds us that fear need not paralyze us for God is with us. This is important to remember as we face both personal and social challenges. We celebrate the feast of the Assumption, a holy day of obligation. This Tuesday we will celebrate the feast with masses at 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. We continue the process of finding a new music director. Dr. DuSell before he left arranged replacements for him while we continue the process of searching for a music director. I thank all who are helping with our music. We have received a number of applicants for the position whose application we are reviewing. More updates soon. The hunger walk is coming this fall. Septem-ber 16th we will participate in the hunger walk again. Please consider walking as part of Team Igna-tius in the event and supporting the walkers. This Sunday we will explain more about the benefits from this wonderful event. Deacon Rossow will give his next presenta-tion about religion. He will talk about compara-tive religions. He will talk again in September, I thank our staff and volunteers for their generosity of time and talent. It helps keep our parish thriving. We are blessed with a talented and dedicated group of staff members and volunteers Let us treasure these last days of summer. We continue to pray that we enjoy these days and we pray for the safety of all during this sometime dan-gerous season. Finally we give thanks for this beauti-ful summer both in the weather and our parish. See this bulletin for other important arti-cles and event announcements. Jesús calma las aguas y nos dice nueva-mente no tengas miedo. Todos de a momento tenemos miedo a lo desconocido. A veces tememos los que nos ha herido en el pasado. Tormentas y agua puede ser temerosas. Los apóstoles estaban asustados por la tormenta y por lo que ellos pensaron que era un fantas-ma. Pedro tuvo miedo cuando salió de su zona de con-fort. Jesús ofrece a los apóstoles y a Pedro el consuelo y en esto nos recuerda de su divinidad. Él puede conquis-tar a la muerte, uno de nuestros grandes miedos. Puede conquistar al viendo. El miedo nos puede servir si lo usa-mos para obrar. Podemos huir o enfrentar cuando esta-mos frente a un peligro. Huir no siempre es malo cuando es la única manera de pelear en otro día. Jesús nos re-cuerda que el miedo no necesita paralizarnos porque Dios está con nosotros. Esto es importante de recordar al enfrentar desafíos personales y sociales. Celebramos la Fiesta de la Asunción, un día de precepto. Este martes celebramos esta fiesta con misas a las 8 am y 7 pm. Continuamos el proceso de buscar un nuevo director de música. El Dr. DuSell antes de irse dejo sustitutos mientras continuamos el proceso de buscar por un nuevo director de música. Agradezco a todos los que ayudan con nuestra música. Hemos recibi-do varias aplicaciones que estamos revisando. Los man-tendremos al tanto. La Caminata Contra el Hambre será en otoño. Tenemos la ben-dición de tener un muy talentoso grupo de voluntarios y personal. Disfrutemos los últimos días del verano. 32nd HUNGER WALK KICK-OFF NEXT WEEKEND

Join us this Sunday after the morning masses in the Holy Name Room to learn more about the walk and how you can help. Members of Team Ig-natius will be there to answer your questions. You will be able to sign-up to walk or donate to the cause. Our goal this year is $9,000. This will enable us to provide staple food items to our families. These sta-ples include: yogurt, eggs, bread, peanut butter, jelly, cereals, canned tuna, chicken or salmon, pasta, canned tomatoes and sauce, an assortment of beans, a choice of fish, chicken, pork or beef. A contribu-tion of $20 will purchase over 30 dozen eggs. A do-nation of $10 will purchase 30 pounds of rice. We also purchase our special holiday items with these funds. Another Great Summer at NCA Wildcat Camp! On behalf of NCA’s Wildcat Camp staff, we would like to thank all of our camp families for seven weeks of fun-filled adventures! With weekly themes like Surfin Safari, It’s a Small World, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Come to the Fair, and Born in the U.S.A., campers enjoyed a summer filled with fun and engaging activities. The weeks were filled with water activities, crafts, hot dog picnics, visits to the library, laughs and so much more! And we can’t forget the amazing field trips! Campers visited some of the best Chi-cago destinations, including Maggie Daily Park, The Bean, the Chicago History Museum, the Museum of Sci-ence and Industry, DuPage County Fair, both the Lincoln Park and Brookfield Zoos, and an annual favorite Safari Land. Most important, our Wildcat campers enjoyed a summer of fun with friends both old and new. See you next summer!

August 15: Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

On November 1, 1950, Pope Pius XII defined the dogma of the Assumption: the Blessed Virgin Mary, at the end of her earthly life, was taken up, body and soul, into the glory of heaven. This belief dates back to the time of the Apostles. Another name know for that feast is the “Dormition of Mary”, the “falling asleep”. The name was changed to “Assumption” to proclaimed that she had been taken up, body and soul, into heaven. “It completes God’s work in her since it was not fitting that the flesh that had given life to God him-self should ever undergo corruption.” This feast is a holy day of obligation. Mass will be celebrated at 8 am & 7 pm.

Dear St. Ignatius Parishioners, Thank you so much for the tremendous outpouring of love, support, and kind wishes that you gave to me in my final weeks at St. Ig-natius. I have been deeply touched by the count-less expressions of gratitude, generous gifts, the song and gift of flowers from the Coro de Niños, the gatherings and send offs from the Coro His-pano, Parish choir, and the staff, the cards and gifts from parishioners, and the blessings in my final masses. No better sending forth could have ever been bestowed on a minister.

I have arrived safely in San Francisco and have begun my work at the University. It is very different here and the work presents many challenges but I think that in time some fruits will come of this ministry as well. Please know that St. Ignatius Chicago and you, its wonder-ful people will always have a very special place in my heart. I will keep all of you in my prayers.

Queridos Feligreses de San Ignacio, Gracias por su grandísimo demonstra-ción de cariño, apoyo y buenos deseos que me brindaron en mis ultimas semanas en San Igna-cio. He sido profundamente movido por su in-numerables expresiones de gratitud, generosos regalos, la canción y las flores del Coro de Ni-ños, las fiestas de despedida del Coro Hispano, Coro Parroquial, y el personal, las tarjetas y re-galos de los feligreses, y la bendición en mi últi-ma misa. No podría haber habido una mejor despedida de mi ministerio.

He llegado a San Francisco bien y he comenzado mi trabajo en la Universidad. Es muy distinto aquí y mi trabajo presenta muchos desafíos pero creo que con cierto tiempo dará sus frutos también. Por favor, sepan que San Igna-cio , Chicago y ustedes, su maravillosa gente tendrán siempre un lugar especial en mi cora-zón. Estarán siempre en mis oraciones.
