Dear parishioners and friends:
THE GIFTS OF THE MAGI
We continue the celebration of the Christmas Season this week with the great Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. Today we proclaim once again from the Gospel of Matthew and hear how magi from the east followed the star seeking the “newborn king of the Jews.” (Matt 2:1). The magi carried gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Tradition tells us that the gift of gold is symbolic of Jesus’ kingship. Frankincense was used in temple worship and thus is symbolic of Jesus’ divinity. Lastly, myrrh was used in burials and is symbolic of Jesus’ humanity. What gift can you give to the Lord this year? That is a good question for all of us to ponder this week. The best gift you can give to the Lord is the gift of yourself. To open your heart and to receive His mercy and love, and to allow that encounter to change you. To encounter Jesus and to share the joy of the Gospel with others in your life. To become, as Pope Francis says, ‘Missionary Disciples,’ which are words you will a lot this year at the parish. Our Lord is not seeking gold, frankincense or myrrh from you. He wants you to know how much He loves you and that He extends to you His mercy and compassion. I pray that like the Magi, you continue to follow the star and that you give to the Christ Child a gift no one else can give: yourself. God Bless you and your family, Father Vince
Queridos feligreses y amigos:
Dios te bendiga a ti y a tu familia, Padre Vicente

Stewardship Prayer
“..they fell down and worshipped him. Then they
opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh...” - Matthew 2:11
Notice the order of events in the Magi’s visit. First, they knelt before Jesus and prayed to Him. Then they presented Him with their gifts. We, too, as Christian
Stewards must take time to pray before we present our gifts to the Lord. We never know what God may be
asking us to share!
