Creat l’any 1999, té una superfície de 1.080 ha i un desnivell màxim de 1.259 m. Sorteny acull una gran biodiversitat i es troba en una de les valls més riques dels Pirineus. Des de l’any 2000 és un vedat de caça i la pesca està regulada des del 2004. Al Parc podem trobar prop de 100 hàbitats i 70 zones humides, incloses a la llista internacional de Ramsar; hi ha 800 espècies florals, 95 de les quals són de gran interès natural. Hi ha més de 100 espècies de fauna vertebrada amb 25 mamífers, 67 ocells, 9 amfibis i rèptils i 2 espècies de peixos. Pel que fa a la fauna invertebrada, hi ha més de 80 espècies de papallones diürnes i una gran diversitat d’insectes i aranyes. El Comú d’Ordino regula l’ús públic del parc complint els objectius de conservació i protecció del patrimoni cultural i natural. The Sorteny Valley Nature Park was the first reserve of its type in the Principality of Andorra. Established in 1999, it has an extension of 1,080 hectares and a maximum height difference of 1,259 m. Sorteny features a great biodiversity and stands in one of the biologically richest valleys of the Pyrenees. Hunting has been forbidden here since the year 2000 and angling has been regulated since 2004. With nearly 100 different habitats, the park contains some 70 wetland areas, which are included in the Ramsar Convention’s international list of wetlands. There are 800 species of flowering plants here, 95 of which are of exceptional natural interest. Likewise, over 100 species of vertebrates are to be found here, including 25 mammals, 67 birds, 9 reptiles and amphibians, and 2 fish. The invertebrates in the Sorteny Valley include more than 80 species of butterflies and a wide variety of other insects and spiders. The Municipality of Ordino regulates the public use of the park, seeking in this way to achieve the goals established for the conservation and protection of the cultural and natural heritage. El jardí botànic del Parc natural de la vall de Sorteny és un jardí temàtic que presenta la flora pirinenca d’alta muntanya, segons els ambients i els usos tradicionals. Una vintena de parcel·les presenten la flora de prats subalpins i alpins, prats de dall, zones humides, megafòrbies, congestes de neu, landes, roques i tarteres, i plantes medicinals o comestibles. Es destaquen també algunes espècies endèmiques dels Pirineus, és a dir pròpies i exclusives dels Pirineus i Monts Cantàbrics. Algunes de les espècies són molt rares, incloses a les llistes vermelles, per això aconsellem seguir el recorregut proposat i no perdre’s cap flor d’interès, sempre tenint en compte però, el període de floració.
The Botanical Garden of the Sorteny Valley Nature Park is a theme garden presenting the Pyrenean high-mountain flora, arranged by habitats and traditional uses. Twenty different plots present the flora of subalpine and alpine meadows, hay meadows, wetlands, megaphorbia meadows, névé patches, heathlands, and rocks and screes, as well as medicinal and edible plants. Also highlighted are some endemic species of the Pyrenees, that is to say, plants that are to be found only in the Pyrenees and Cantabrian Mountains. Some of the plants here are quite rare and belong the Red List of endangered species. For this reason, by following the recommended route, you will be sure not to miss out on any plants of interest, especially during their flowering periods.
