Harty Hoff has been named asst. adver-tising director of Wilson Sporting Goods Co., according to an announcement by Hob Wren, director of advertising and public relations.

Hoff joined the Wilson organization in 19,ril! as a member of the Chicago sales division. He was trans-ferred in 1953 to advertis-ing as head of tie a let serv-ice, and subsequently be-came asst. production mgr., the position he held until his recent promotion.

Turf Specialist Prefers Chopped to Long Runner Stolons

Touching on the subject of chopped versus long runner stolons, Ralph R. Bond of Old Orchard Turf Nurseries, Madison, Wis., in a recent bulletin said that the chopped variety are preferable to long runner for a number of reasons. Among them, he lists the follow-ing:

Chopped stolons give niore nodes per bu: are easier to spread while planting and give more even distribution; there is a 50 per cent savings in topdressing; chopped stolons do not have to be torn apart, lay flatter on the ground and do not blow away as readily while roots are anchoring. Bond points our that chopped stolons mature more quickly, adding that greens arc ready for play in about eight weeks when they are used.

Old Orchard Turf Nurseries, it is empha-sized, supplies both chopped and long run ner stolons.

    G r a u Gives Instructions for Ordering Ugandagrass

Fred V, Grau, PO Box 177, College Park. Md., advises persons interested in W & G Ugandagrass to give the supplier two weeks' notice of planting date in placing orders. Since sprigs must he quite dry to insure safe shipping, there is a chance that weather can delay shipment by as much as one week.

Two or two and one-half bu. of Uganda-grass will plant 1,000 sq. f t . which is ready for play in about one month If all growth factors are favorable. I t is suggested that supts. take the precaution of not ovcrwater-ing the grass after it is well started. Uganda-grass should be kept moist tor the first two weeks of growth, and after that, watered only as needed.
