Estos eventos no se limitaron a Argenina. Durante los 1970's y 1980's varios pasesLatinoamericanos sufrieron bajo gobiernos semejantes. En Chile, Salvador Allende, un presidentesocialista elegido en unas elecciones democrticas, fue derrocado por las fuerzas militares chilenoscon la ayuda de la CIA. En Chile como en Argentina, muchas personas fueron detenidas por elgobierno, y muchos desaparecieron. Las madres queran saber qu pas con sus hijos y sus nietosy empezaron a protestar.
