La Boina Roja: es un cuento de corte psicológico. Inicia con el juicio al Dr. Paul Ecker, sobre la desaparición física de la joven Linda Olsen.

Personajes Principales: Paul Ecker, Linda Olsen.La acción del cuento es retrospectiva ya que la misma inicia al final.

Toda la acción se desarrolla a través de los pensamientos que vienen a la memoria del Dr. Ecker, desde que conoció a Linda Olsen siendo ella en ese momento una hermosa colegiala, que usaba falda corta de color azul y una boina roja.Sale de su soliloquio cuando el juez le pregunta si había sido suicidio u homicidio y él explica que ninguna de las dos, que las cosas habían sucedido de otra forma.

Vuelve a recordar cuando ya se encontraban en la isla realizando sus estudios sobre algunas especies marinas encontradas ahí. Junto a él le acompañaban: Linda Olsen, Ben Parker, Joe y una señora haitiana.

Mientras el Dr. Ecker realizaba sus estudios, la señorita Olsen y Ben Parker se dedicaban a pasear, pero después de un

tiempo Ben le rechazaba y ella para darle celos se hizo amiga de Joe. Pero al darse cuenta que se podía enamorar de Joe decidió inventar que éste la violó, luego le inventó todo un drama de la supuesta violación al Dr. Ecker.

Ben y Joe al enterarse de esto decidieron escapar y se fueron de la isla dejando solo al doctor y a Linda.

Al quedar solos sintieron una mutua atracción, hasta que un día decidieron ir a nadar, mientras se encontraban en el mar tuvieron relaciones íntimas.

Después de un tiempo Linda se percató que estaba embarazada y se lo comentó al doctor quien tenía miedo que

el bebé fuera de él, ya que su esposa había traído al mundo un feto deforme.

Durante el tiempo en que Linda estuvo embarazada, tuvo extraños antojos, como los de comer mariscos crudos y bañarse mucho en el mar. Cuando el bebé nació el doctor al ver lo horrible que era decidió echarlo al mar.

Al levantarse Linda pregunta por el bebé, Ecker no sabía que contestarle. Primero le dijo que el niño era negro, después, que había nacido muerto y ella pensó que él lo había matado, al ver la tristeza de ella decidió decirle la verdad y le dijo que era una hermosa niña de cabello rubio y de boquita rosada, pero que tenía una cola de pez en vez de piernas, así que pensó que la niña era una sirena. Al ver que la niña se estaba

asfixiando salió corriendo hacia la playa y decidió arrojarla al mar y así la niña se fue nadando.

El doctor dejó de recordar y le contó al juez que cuando Linda escuchó la historia de lo que había pasado con su bebé, enloqueció y salió corriendo hacia el mar, él fue tras ella, pero

ya era tarde, Linda se había arrojado al agua y no había rastro de ella, sólo quedaba su boina roja.

Hace mucho, mucho tiempo, antes de que los hombres y sus ciudades llenaran

la tierra, antes incluso de que muchas cosas tuvieran un nombre, existía un

lugar misterioso custodiado por el hada del lago. Justa y generosa, todos sus

vasallos siempre estaban dispuestos a servirle. Y cuando unos malvados seres

amenazaron el lago y sus bosques, muchos se unieron al hada cuando les pidió

que la acompañaran en un peligroso viaje a través de ríos, pantanos y

desiertos en busca de la Piedra de Cristal, la única salvación posible para

todos.

El hada advirtió de los peligros y dificultades, de lo difícil que sería aguantar

todo el viaje, pero ninguno se asustó. Todos prometieron acompañarla hasta

donde hiciera falta, y aquel mismo día, el hada y sus 50 más leales vasallos

comenzaron el viaje. El camino fue aún más terrible y duro que lo había

anunciado el hada. Se enfrentaron a bestias terribles, caminaron día y noche y

vagaron perdidos por el desierto sufriendo el hambre y la sed. Ante tantas

adversidades muchos se desanimaron y terminaron por abandonar el viaje a

medio camino, hasta que sólo quedó uno, llamado Sombra. No era el más

valiente, ni el mejor luchador, ni siquiera el más listo o divertido, pero continuó

junto al hada hasta el final. Cuando ésta le preguntaba que por qué no

abandonaba como los demás, Sombra respondía siempre lo mismo "Os dije que

os acompañaría a pesar de las dificultades, y éso es lo que hago. No voy a dar

media vuelta sólo porque haya sido verdad que iba a ser duro".

Gracias a su leal Sombra pudo el hada por fin encontrar la Piedra de Cristal,

pero el monstruoso Guardián de la piedra no estaba dispuesto a entregársela.

Entonces Sombra, en un último gesto de lealtad, se ofreció a cambio de la

piedra quedándose al servicio del Guardián por el resto de sus días...

La poderosa magia de la Piedra de Cristal permitió al hada regresar al lago y

expulsar a los seres malvados, pero cada noche lloraba la ausencia de su fiel

Sombra, pues de aquel firme y generoso compromiso surgió un amor más

fuerte que ningún otro. Y en su recuerdo, queriendo mostrar a todos el valor de

la lealtad y el compromiso, regaló a cada ser de la tierra su propia sombra

durante el día; pero al llegar la noche, todas las sombras acuden el lago, donde
