Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

July 22, 2018

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

When Jesus saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved

with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a

shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.

[Mark 6: 34]

Context is important: two major setbacks: rejection

at Nazareth and the execution of John the Baptist. He

and the disciples really need a rest. But he is overcome

by the sight of people’s helplessness. Despite his efforts

to seek Sabbath rest, the need of the crowd outweighed

his personal weariness. The Greek word for “pity”

means the deepest of emotions, a visceral form of com-

passion. Deeply moved, how often do you drop every-

thing and attend to those in need?

Just as Jesus wrestles with exhaustion and the need

for personal rest, his heart is attuned to the more radical

needs of others, how lost they are and unable to under-

stand how to respond to the spiritual direction of their

lives. His mission is to reconcile and heal the inner dis-

tress that we feel, being stressed out by the polarization

of partisan politics, hateful criticism and divisiveness.

The mission of the Church is to help heal and foster tol-

erance and understanding so that all may find a home

and a resting place.

Questions for the week: What is it that moves me to

feel a visceral form of compassion for others? What,

then, do I do?

Your Pastor, Fr. Bob

Domingo Dieciséis en el Tiempo Ordinario

22 de Julio, 2018

Queridos Feligreses y Amigos:

pastor y él comenzó a enseñarles muchas cosas.

[Marcos 6: 34]

cos, criticas odiosas y divisiones.

entonces, yo hago?

Su Pastor, P. Bob

Expenses: we need your help. Good stewardship requires transparency, for us to give you an account of what is happening.

Each month we must pay the Diocese of Savannah our Parish As-sessments of $1,567 and Property and Liability Insurance of

$3,222. Last week’s offertory of $2,410; Children’s Circle $32; left us without enough to pay the bills. Please do your part to fulfill

the “Precept of the Church” which says a good Catholic “contributes to the support of the Church,” as well as gives to the poor. Have you fulfilled the law of the Church if you only give to

Loaves and Fishes and not to the parish?

Stewardship is a way of life: “where one receives God’s gifts gratefully, cherishes and tends them in a responsible and accountable manner, shares them in justice and love with others, and returns them with increase to the Lord.” THANK YOU, you who have been faithful to Mass this summer. Your attitude of gratitude is at the heart of stew-ardship!

A National Reconfiguration of RCIA: RCIA will be undergoing a major conversion this year that will affect the whole parish. Instead of focusing on doctrine pri-marily, the curriculum for RCIA will become the life of our parish itself. RCIA candidates will be assigned a companion or sponsor, who will accompany them to various functions and groups within the parish. Together they will learn the art of theological reflection and assist one another as they grow in Christ together, one prepar-ing for deeper commitment to Christ in our Church. RCIA will only be meeting once a month as a total group this coming year. Sponsor companions are invit-ed along with our parish leaders to “Come & See Sat-

urday” on August 25, from 9:30 AM until 3 PM. SAVE

THE DATE! If you want to be a sponsor , please let Fran McElroy or Fr. Bob know, or come to the team meeting ON JULY 31, TUESDAY Night at 7:15 PM in the Parish Hall.

RCIA Information sessions are coming up next month: August 7 & 14, Tuesday nights at 7:15 PM for would-be

sponsors and would-be candidates to learn about the new method for RCIA.

Use of the NURSERY: The Nursery is there to help parents keep the little ones busy while we are at Mass and special activi-

ties. Please be responsible for your children when you use the nursery!

The next Evangelization/Stewardship Meeting: will be

held on Wednesday night, August 1, at 7:15 PM.
