THE PROJECT

• Our aim: Help to elder or people with physicaldisabilities

Interesting Data

• According to information from the European Union, about 37 million people in Europe have some type of disability. Of these, close to 1.2 million are Swedes.

• In the other hand, Sweden has one of the oldest populations of the world, just after Italy, Greece and Japan. 1.5 million people were aged 65 or over, which is 15.96 % of the population. In 2010, the estimated proportion of over-65s will be 18.6 % and in 2030, it is likely to be as high as 22.6 %.

Our purpose

• Be innovative

Door supplemented by a seat to have an easieraccess to the shower

Applicable for standard bathroom

Bath Dimensions• Bath dimensions: 2.7 x 1.9 (m)

• Conventional shower: 1 x 1.2 (m)

• Doors dimensions: 0.9 x 1.9 (m)

Designing Process (Our Model)

• Preliminar model: Accessing shower by a 180º rotary door.

-Fixing seat on a rotary door with access to shower.

- Accesing shower by a door rotation of 180 degrees on a central axis.

Preliminar Model

The biggest

Disadvantage

is the space

Our Final Design

• Final model:

- A conventional door that rotates 90 degreeson side hinges.

Safety factor: N = 4,41Displacement: 0,88 mm

- With a thickness of 1,5 mm:Maximun allowed stress: = 133,8 N/mm2

Safety factor: N = 2,06Displacement: 1.329 mm

CONCLUSIONS

• A Shower´s easy-access solution wasdesigned.

• Applicable to standard bathrooms

• Made of commercial materials.

• Practical solution.

FUTURE WORK

• Consider fatigue and the welding calculations

• Consider an automatic mechanism to open-close the door.

• Comfort of seat (arm rest, etc)

• Fast belt.

• Become reality (Make prototypes)

• Help for 1.2 million people (population over65 years old) in Sweden
