This chaotic scene takes the concept of a food fight to a whole new level.

Revellers from the southeastern Spanish town of Ibi were caught on camera on Wednesday as they stepped out to celebrate a quirky 200-year-old festival known as Els Enfarinats.

The traditional get-together requires participants to dress in military garb and stage a mock takeover using flour, eggs and firecrackers in lieu of weapons.

As expected, things quickly got messy, with attendees wandering the cobbles with their clothing coated in a crust of soggy batter. 

The bizarre celebrations took place in the Spanish town of Ibi.

The tradition sees citizens pelt each other with flour and eggs.

It is a 200-year-old tradition and is accompanied by a day of celebrations.

It appeared that the attendees had lots of fun as they unleashed their wrath via the contents of their kitchen cabinets. 

Even the town's citizens who are confined to wheelchairs took part. 

The flour powdered the air throughout the day as revelers got increasingly carried away.
