    INTRODUCTION

In tall buildings and in homes where the pressure

of water is insufficient for them to have a normal

flow in the water piping systems, water pumping

    systems are inevitable.

As long as there is water pumping system, the

control mechanism of it is inevitable too.

    PROBLEM STATEMENT

Currently, the water pumping system at Mabibo

Hostel is manually operated and leads to the

    following problems:-

    Insufficient water management

    Pump damage (Motor damage)

Unreliable water supply in the buildings

    PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The objective of the project was to design and

implement an automatic water level control

system that will be able to start and stop the pump

automatically depending on the water levels in the

overhead tank and the main reservoir tank which

    is on the ground level.

    SYSTEM DESIGN

The design of the system comprised the design of

    the following parts:-

Type of the sensors to be used

    Decision making unit

    Pump switching mechanism

    RESULTS OF THE DESIGN

After the designing process, I came up with the

circuits as shown in the figures below:-

Sensors which are selected for the system, are just

the electrodes immersed in water tanks.

    RESULTS DISCUSSION

The designed circuit were simulated using the

ISIS professional software to check its

    consistence and it ran successful.

The prototype of the circuit is constructed to

    demonstrate its operation.

    CONCLUSION

Water is one of the most important basic need in all living

things. Being important, it must be well managed to

ensure that there is no wastage of it.

This project has provided one of the best method for water

    management.

It is the best method because, it is flexible, economical

    and easy configurable system.

The low cost PIC 16F877A Microcontroller has been

used in this project which is the key point to reduce cost.

    RECOMMENDATION

Due to the flexibility of the system and the programmablecharacteristics of the PIC 16F877A Microcontroller

In future time, the control system can further be extended

to the other functions using the same PIC 16F877A

Microcontroller like testing the saltiness of the water etc.

Also the control mechanism can further be extended up to

being a web-based water level monitoring and controlling

network which flexibility would offer us to control this

system from any place via internet even with different

    type of devices
