"BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD".

Today's feast has two names, reflecting the unusual fact that two Gospel passages are pro-claimed at today’s Mass. From the Gospel passage proclaimed at the start of Mass comes the name “Palm Sunday”. This name reflects the seeming glory shown Jesus as He rode into the royal city of Jerusalem. Jesus seemed to be a king. He seemed to enter the city to bring liberation. The palm branches were waved with confidence, with cries of “Hosanna to the Son of David!” But from the Gospel passage proclaimed after the Second Reading comes the name “Passion Sunday” for today’s feast. This long passage reveals the descent from “Hosanna!” to “Crucify him!” This long passage reveals the fickleness of sinful man, and the long-suffering patience of the God-man.

St. Thomas Aquinas speaks to Jesus’ patience throughout this long Gospel passage. “The passion of Christ”, St. Thomas notes, “completely suffices to fashion our lives.” “If you seek patience, you will find no better example than the Cross,” St. Thomas continues. “Great patience occurs in two ways: either when one patiently suffers much, or when one suffers things which one is able to avoid and yet does not”.

Of course, it’s not fashionable today to bear with suffering patiently, much less seek meaning in it. Only grace can make us strong enough to embrace the Cross for what it is. Only grace can strengthen us to bear our own crosses with patience: to suffer in order to find liberation from the power of sin and death over us.

Let us start the Holy Week with an open heart to receive Jesus our salvation. Let us participate in our different activities of the Great and Holy Week at our parish. Kind-ly, check the bulletin for our service schedule.

"BENDITO ES EL QUE VIENE EN EL NOMBRE DEL SEÑOR".

La fiesta de hoy tiene dos nombres, lo que refleja el hecho inusual de que dos pasajes del Evangelio se proclaman en la misa de hoy. Del pasaje del Evangelio proclamado al comienzo de la misa viene el nombre de "Domingo de Ramos". Este nombre refleja la aparente gloria mostrada por Jesús cuando cabalgó hacia la ciudad real de Jerusa-lén. Jesús parecía ser un rey. Parecía entrar a la ciudad para traer la liberación. Los ramos de palma se agitaron con confianza, con gritos de "¡Hosanna al Hijo de David!" Pero del pasaje del Evangelio proclamado después de la Se-gunda Lectura viene el nombre "Domingo de Pasión" para la fiesta de hoy. ¡Este largo pasaje revela el descenso de "¡Hosanna!" A "¡Crucifícalo!" Este largo pasaje revela la inconstancia del hombre pecador y la paciencia del Dios-hombre.

Santo Tomás de Aquino habla de la paciencia de Jesús a lo largo de este largo pasaje del Evangelio. "La pasión de Cristo", señala Santo Tomas de Aquino, "es completamente suficiente para moldear nuestras vidas". "Si buscas pa-ciencia, no encontrarás mejor ejemplo que la Cruz", continúa Santo Tomás de Aquino. "La gran paciencia se pro-duce de dos maneras: cuando uno sufre pacientemente mucho, o cuando uno sufre cosas que uno puede evitar y todavía no tiene".

Por supuesto, hoy no está de moda aguantar el sufrimiento con pacien-cia, mucho menos buscar significado en él. Solo la gracia puede hacer-nos lo suficientemente fuertes como para abrazar la Cruz por lo que es. Solo la gracia puede fortalecernos para llevar nuestras propias cruces con paciencia: sufrir para encontrar la liberación del poder del pecado y la muerte sobre nosotros.

It’s time to order your Easter Lilies! On Easter Sun-day, the church will be overflowing with the glories of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ. As is our tradition, we place Easter lilies around our altar. East-er lilies can be given in memory of a loved one, or to honor family and friends. All dedications will be printed in the bulletin on Easter Sunday. Donation is $8.00 per plant (one name per plant). Please pay with cash or check, payable to Corpus Christi Church. Or-ders due by March 25th (Palm Sunday).

El Domingo de Pascua, la Iglesia estará llena de las glorias de la Resurrección de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Como es tradición, colocamos lirios de Pascua alrede-dor de nuestro altar. Los lirios se pueden dar en memo-ria de un ser querido, o para honrar a familiares y ami-gos. Todas las dedicatorias se imprimirán en el boletín del Domingo de Pascua.
