Honduras debuts with victory

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, August 8 2013.- Honduras debut was with victory over Nicaragua 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-11, 25-20) in opening match at the 10th Boy’s U19 Central American Championship. Defending champions, Nicaragua, managed to win the first set but saw their efforts downhill over Honduras that took control of the match point by point. Nicaragua had numerous errors, a total of 62, against 21 from Honduras. The top scorer of the match was Roberto Espinosa of

Nicaragua with 23 points, followed by Esdras Panchame of Honduras with 12 points. Ricardo Midence, opposite of Honduras, was invited to the press conference by his coach and said “jitters made us lose the first set, but we were able to gain more confidence and the result was positive.” Captain of Nicaragua, Gabriel Barrios, indicated “we began strong but each mistake in our receiving made things difficult, we weren’t able to recover because the team is new and that influenced a lot.” “We’ve been practicing hard for this tournament and I believe the boys can give more; it’s important that they believe in themselves to improve. Nerves made us lose the first set” expressed Carlos Funez, Honduras’ coach. For Osman Hernandez, Nicaraguan coach, at this age group it’s natural to see inconsistency, he added “we made many mistakes, to my knowledge easy points were lost, we lacked preparation and we knew the team would present ups and downs”.

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, 8 de agosto de 2013.- Honduras debutó con triunfo sobre Nicaragua 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-11, 25-20) en el juego inaugural del X Campeonato Centroamericano Sub 19 Masculino. El campeón defensor, Nicaragua, logró agenciarse del primer set pero vieron sus esfuerzos frustrados ante Honduras que fue tomando control del encuentro un punto a la vez. Nicaragua tuvo innumerable errores, 62 en total, a diferencia de 21 cometidos por Honduras.

El mejor anotador del encuentro fue Roberto Espinosa de Nicaragua con 23 puntos, seguido por Esdras Panchame de Honduras con 12 puntos. Ricardo Midence, opuesto de Honduras, fue invitado por su entrenador a la conferencia de prensa y dijo “los nervios hicieron que cayéramos en el primer set, pero fuimos tomando confianza y el resultado fue positivo.” El capitán de Nicaragua, Gabriel Barrios, indicó “empezamos con fuerza pero cada vez los errores en el recibo fueron dificultando las cosas, tratamos de recuperarnos, pero el equipo es nuevo y eso influyó.” “Se ha entrenado fuerte para el campeonato y pienso que el equipo puede dar más; es importante que crean en ellos mismos para mejorar. Se perdió el primer parcial producto de los nervios” expresó Carlos Funez, entrenador de Honduras. Para Osman Hernández, entrenador nicaragüense, es natural que en esta categoría los equipos sean inconstantes, además agregó “se cometieron muchísimos errores, a mi juicio balones fáciles se perdieron, nos hizo falta preparación y sabíamos que el equipo presentaría altos y bajos.”

Powerful Guatemala defeats Costa Rica

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, August 8, 2013.- Guatemala defeated Costa Rica in straight sets with power 25-8, 25-15 and 25-15 in the first day of actions at the 10th Boys’ U19 Central American Championship. Guatemala’s power didn’t allow Costa Rica to respond to their strong attack with an advantage of 39 to 15. Guatemala was superior in the blocking category by 12 to 4, preventing any possibility from their opponents and they were also more effective in service points by 6 to 1. Ricardo Mendoza leaded Guatemala’s offense with 17

points, 5 of them in blocking, along with Erik Flores who chipped in with 14 points. Allan Duarte was the best attacker of Costa Rica with 5 points. “We were determined to win, we didn’t lose our concentration and maintained calm. Our union as a group has been essential in our improvement. Every match is important y we hope to continue like this” said Carlos Lopez, Guatemala’s captain. “I believe we began without thrive and Guatemala dominated us with fast plays, which we weren’t able to stop. Our counterattack never came because we couldn’t catch up, if we want to win se must be more confident” expressed Costa Rican captain, Luis Gutierrez. Alvinzi Pelaez, coach for Guatemala began by congratulating Costa Rica “Mauricio’s return after 10 years is very important for Costa Rica and in moments during the match they pressed hard. Our strategy was not to allow Costa Rica to put together their game so our serves had to be precise and they were able to stabilize their reception in the second set.” He also said that it’s important to win every match to make the most points possible and not complicate things. On the other hand, Mauricio Prado, who returns to the national team of Costa Rica after 10 years of absence expressed “they are very young boys and inexperienced, the anxiety and pressure in their debut was too much to take and Guatemala didn’t make it easy. This is a difficult loss and we must work on their self-esteem”.

Potente Guatemala derrota a Costa Rica

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, 8 de agosto de 2013.- Guatemala derrotó a Costa Rica con potencia en sets seguidos 25-8, 25-15 y 25-15 en la primera jornada del X Campeonato Centroamericano Sub 19 Masculino. Guatemala mostró su poder al no permitir que Costa Rica pudiera reaccionar de su fuerte ataque con ventaja de 39 a 15. Guatemala fue superior en el bloqueo por 12 a 4, evitando cualquier posibilidad de su rival y fue más efectivo en puntos de servicio por 6 a 1. Ricardo Mendoza lideró la ofensiva de Guatemala con 17

puntos, 5 de ellos por bloqueo, acompañado por Erik Flores que aportó 14 puntos. Allan Duarte fue el mejor ataque de Costa Rica con 5 puntos. “Entramos decididos a ganar, no perdimos la concentración y mantuvimos la calma. La unión del grupo ha sido fundamental para nuestra mejoría. Todos los juegos son importantes y esperamos seguir así” dijo Carlos López, capitán de Guatemala. “Pienso que entramos desganados y Guatemala nos dominó con su juego rápido, el cual no pudimos parar. El contra ataque nunca llegó por que no pudimos mantener el ritmo, para ganar hay que jugar con más confianza” expresó el capitán de Costa Rica, Luis Gutiérrez. Alvinzi Peláez, entrenador de Guatemala, inició felicitando a Costa Rica “el regreso de Mauricio luego de 10 años es importante para Costa Rica y en momentos del juego pudieron presionarnos. Nuestra estrategia era no permitir que Costa Rica armara por lo que el servicio no tenía que fallar y ellos en el segundo set pudieron estabilizar su recibo.” Además indicó que es importante ganar todos los juegos para hacer la mayor cantidad de puntos y no complicarse. Por su parte, Mauricio Prado, quien regresa al proceso de selección de Costa Rica después de 10 años de ausencia expresó “son muchachos muy jóvenes e inexpertos, la ansiedad y presión en el debut fue demasiada y Guatemala no lo hizo fácil. Este es un golpe duro y tendremos que trabajar en el autoestima del equipo.”

For Ricardo Rivera things got complicated in the third because they began making mistakes “our serves were better in the first and second sets, it was a close end but with conviction we won”. Evir Aranda expressed “I want to start by applauding El Salvador they did well; as for my boys, we lack communication and I’m sure we’ll do better next time.”

10 puntos, mientras que Gustavo Alvarado aportó 7 y Josean Aguilar 6. Los máximos anotadores por Belize fueron James Bregal y Daril Avila con 6 puntos cada uno. “Nos confiamos en el tercer parcial, y casi extendemos el juego pero pudimos darle la vuelta. Nuestros centrales se desempeñaron bien y el ataque alto por las esquinas fue eficiente” dijo Rodrigo Sandoval. Alwyn Mahung, capitán de Belize primero felicitó a los ganadores y luego indicó “jugamos fuerte pero no hicimos lo suficiente; esperamos a tener un mejor desempeño como equipo mañana”. Para Ricardo Rivera las cosas se complicaron en el tercero porque empezaron a cometer errores “nuestro servicio fue mejor en el primer y en el segundo set, estuvo cerca pero al final con convicción ganamos”. Evir Aranda expresó “quiero aplaudir a El Salvador, lo hicieron bien; en cuanto a mis muchachos, carecemos de comunicación y estoy seguro que la próxima vez lo haremos mejor.”
