Costa Rica finishes winning to Belize

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, August 12, 2013.- Costa Rica won over Belize 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-21) in the last day of competitions at the 10th Boys’ U 19 Central American Championship. Costa Rica added their last five points but not before Belize pushed harder in the third set maintaining the score closer than the first two sets. Costa Rica had advantage in spiking (32-23) and in service aces (4-1). Belize failed to contain Costa Rica committing much more mistakes (35-18).

The winners finish the tournament with 20 points, while Belize leaves with 2 points and winless. With 11 points apiece, Eric Segura and Job Araya led Costa Rica’s attack. Daril Avila topped Belize with 10 points. Luis Gutierrez, Costa Rica’s captain “we were less concentrated in the third set but we were able to regroup. The loss against Guatemala earlier in the tournament affected us but in the end we reached the objective to finish with the silver medal”. Captain Alwyn Mahung of Belize said “Costa Rica really wanted to win. We take home a lot of experience, we know now we must practice harder because we didn’t expect this to be a high leveled talented tournament”. “We weren’t depending on anyone to win the silver medal. We improved our position from the last edition of the championship and things turned our as planned” said Mauricio Prado of Costa Rica. “As an 18 year old coach I still have a lot more to learn and my guys definitely need more practice. We did what we could and maybe next time things will be better” said Coach Evir Aranda of Belize.

Costa Rica finaliza con triunfo sobre Belize

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, 12 de agosto de 2013.- Costa Rica se impuso a Belize 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-21) en el último día de competencia del X Campeonato Centroamericano Sub 19 Masculino. Costa Rica sumó sus últimos cinco puntos no sin antes superar la presión de Belize durante el tercer parcial, manteniendo el marcador mucho más cerca que en los primeros dos. Costa Rica tuvo ventaja en el ataque (32-23) y en el servicio (4-1). Belize falló en contener a Costa Rica al cometer muchos más errores no forzados

(35-18). Los ganadores terminan el torneo con 20 puntos, mientras que Belize se queda con 2 puntos y sin conocer victoria. Con 11 puntos cada uno, Eric Segura y Job Araya encabezaron el ataque de Costa Rica. Daril Avila lideró Belize con 10 puntos. Luis Gutiérrez, capitán de Costa Rica “estuvimos menos concentrados en el tercer set pero supimos re agruparnos. La derrota frente a Guatemala al inicio del campeonato nos afectó pero al final alcanzamos el objetivo de ganar la medalla de plata.” El capitán Alwyn Mahung de Belize dijo “Costa Rica realmente deseaba ganar. Nos llevamos a casa muchas experiencias, ahora sabemos que debemos entrenar más duro puesto que no esperábamos un torneo de alto rendimiento y talento.” “No íbamos a depender de nadie para llevarnos la medalla de plata. Mejoramos nuestra posición en comparación a la edición anterior del torneo y las cosas salieron como planeadas” dijo Mauricio Prado de Costa Rica. “Como entrenador de 18 años de edad, aún tengo muchísimo que aprender y mi equipo definitivamente necesita entrenar más. Hicimos lo que pudimos y tal vez la próxima vez las cosas sean mejor” dijo el entrenador Evir Aranda de Belize.

Guatemala claims Central American Gold

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, August 12, 2013.- Guatemala beat Honduras in straight sets (25-22, 27-25, 25-14) claiming the Boys’ U 19 Central American title in its tenth edition. Guatemala continued to dominate earning their fifth consecutive win in the tournament without dropping a set crowning as Central American champions. Honduras finishes in third place. Honduras pushed hard in the second set with

advantage of 4 points up to point 21 but Guatemala gradually pulled their game together and a tactical mistake from the other side gave them the win. The champions were better in all categories, in spikes 39-20, in blocks 9-5 and in service aces 4-3. “We lost focus in the second set but we pressured ourselves as we wanted to win the championship undefeated. This championship is thanks to our team effort and our splendid coach” said Carlos Lopez captain of Guatemala. Abner Funez, Honduras’ libero gave his impressions of the match and tournament “I believe we could have done better, we came from less to more in the event; as for this match we had our hopes higher in the first two sets but in we got blown away by Guatemala”. “I first congratulate Honduras, as everyone here, this is an early age and we all benefit gaining experience with these tournaments forming solid basis. It’s important to continue working because we’ll meet again in two years in the junior category” indicated Coach Alvinzi Pelaez of Guatemala. About the match he added “this was a very good match in every aspect, the players did well from both sides and the referees didn’t harm with their decisions; I specially congratulate the support of Honduras’ fans, they were an additional element that made us lose concentration. The second set was the most tactical for coach Funez and myself”. “The emotions took the most of us; we improved as the tournament advanced and that proves with constant work and practice we can be better. We had only one month of preparation while Guatemala’s hard training shows” said Carlos Funez, coach of Honduras.

Guatemala se lleva el Oro Centroamericano

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, 12 de agosto de 2013.- Guatemala derrotó a Honduras en sets seguidos (25-22, 27-25, 25-14) llevándose el título Centroamericano Sub 19 Masculino en su décima edición. Guatemala continuó dominando agenciándose de su quinto triunfo consecutivo en el torneo sin perder ni un set y coronándose Campeón Centroamericano. Honduras finaliza en tercer lugar. Honduras presionó fuertemente en el segundo set con

ventaja de 4 puntos hasta el punto 21, pero Guatemala gradualmente recobró control y un error táctico del rival les otorgó el set. Los campeones fueron mejor en todas las categorías, 39-20 en ataque, 9-5 en bloqueo y en puntos de servicio 4-3. “Nos desconcentramos en el segundo set pero nos presionamos porque deseábamos ganar el torneo invictos. Este campeonato es gracias a nuestro esfuerzo como equipo y a nuestro estupendo entrenador” dijo Carlo López capitán de Guatemala. Abner Funez, libero de Honduras dio sus impresiones sobre el juego y el torneo “pienso que pudimos haberlo hecho mejor, venimos de menos a más en el evento; en cuanto a este juego, teníamos el ánimo hasta arriba en los primeros dos sets pero Guatemala nos desanimó”. “Felicito a Honduras, así como a todos acá, esta es una edad temprana y todos nos beneficiamos ganando experiencia en estos torneos, formando bases sólidas. Es importante continuar trabajando porque nos volveremos a encontrar dentro de dos años en la categoría juvenil” indicó Alvinzi Peláez de Guatemala. Sobre el encuentro agregó “este fue un buen juego en todos los aspectos, los jugadores de ambos lados lo hicieron bien y los árbitros no perjudicaron a nadie con sus decisiones; en especial felicito el apoyo del público hondureño, fueron un elemento adicional que nos desconcentró. El segundo set fue el más táctico para el entrenador Funez y para mí”. “Las emociones se apoderaron de nosotros; mejoramos conforme el campeonato avanzó y eso prueba que con trabajo constante y práctica podemos ser mejores. Tuvimos solo un mes de preparación mientras que el trabajo de Guatemala se nota” dijo Carlos Funez, entrenador de Honduras.

Nicaragua finishes in fourth place

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, August 12, 2013.- Nicaragua prevailing 3-1 (25-13, 29-27, 24-26, 28-26) over host El Salvador finishes in fourth place at the 10th Boys’ U 19 Central American Championship that concluded on Monday night. El Salvador, after a slow start, began to impose as host and edged Nicaragua to extend the match to 1hr 46min. Spiker Roberto Espinoza with a match high (25 points) was key for Nicaragua to regain control and wrap the victory.

Nicaragua had advantage over El Salvador in blocking 6-3 and in service aces 7-3. “The time outs asked by our coach were essential to maintain calm, I’m glad for my team and we go back home with a very good experience” said Gabriel Barrios captain of Nicaragua. Osman Hernandez, Nicaragua’s coach indicated “it was an exhausting victory, Nicaragua always risks the service and today we missed a lot but in the future we’ll do lots of damage with it. Our players loosen up and El Salvador knew how to take advantage”. Ricardo Rivera of El Salvador resumed the match as “an honorable defeat”. He added “my team began slow every match, it seems as in the second set they appear; in whole I’m satisfied with my team’s evolution”.

Nicaragua finaliza en cuarto lugar

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, 12 de agosto de 2013.- Nicaragua derrotó 3-1 (25-13, 29-27, 24-26, 28-26) al anfitrión El Salvador, finalizando en cuarto lugar del X Campeonato Centroamericano Sub 19 Masculino que concluyó la noche del lunes. El Salvador, luego de un inicio lento, empezó a imponer su calidad de local y empujó a Nicaragua a extender el juego a 1hr 46min. El atacante Roberto Espinoza con el puntaje más alto del juego (25 puntos) fue clave para que Nicaragua retomara control y cerrar con triunfo.

Nicaragua tuvo ventaja sobre El Salvador, en bloqueo 6-3 y en puntos de servicio 7-3. “Los tiempos fuera pedidos por nuestro entrenador fueron esencial para que mantuviéramos la calma, estoy contento por mi equipo y nos vamos a casa con una buena experiencia” dijo Gabriel Barrios capitán de Nicaragua. Osman Hernández, entrenador de Nicaragua indicó “fue una victoria agotadora, Nicaragua siempre arriesga el servicio y hoy nos falló demasiado pero sé que en el futuro haremos mucho daño con él. Nuestros jugadores aflojaron y El Salvador supo aprovecharse de ello”. Ricardo Rivera de El Salvador resumió el juego como “una derrota digna”. Además agregó “mi equipo todos los juegos lo empezó lento, aparece hasta el segundo set; en general estoy satisfecho de cómo fueron evolucionando.”

Erik Flores the MVP at Boys’ U19 Central American Championship

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, August 12, 2013.- Opposite Erik Flores of Guatemala was named the Most Valuable Player of the 10th Boys’ U-19 Central American Championship that concluded Monday night at El Salvador. Flores was also awarded as the Best Spiker and his teammates Ricardo Mendoza and Erick Juarez received the trophy of Best Blocker and Best Receiver respectively.

From Nicaragua, Roberto Espinoza received the award for Best Scorer and Juan Reyes the award for Best Server. Abner Funez was the Best Digger and Jose Arellano the Best Setter, both from Honduras. Carlos Vasquez for the hosts El Salvador was granted the award of Best Libero. The final positions of the championship: 1. Guatemala 2. Costa Rica 3. Honduras 4. Nicaragua 5. El Salvador 6. Flores también fue otorgado el premio al Mejor Atacante y sus compañeros de equipo Ricardo Mendoza y Erick Juárez recibieron el trofeo al Mejor Bloqueo y Mejor Receptor, respectivamente.
